Going through the camera roll on my phone and found some photos from when I was putting together the rig for last year’s shows. I would love to say the rig is a little more simplified this time, but it’s not really. If anything, removing the computer has meant having to lean heavier on some of the hardware. Mainly on the modular & live keys rigs. It has also meant quite a bit more work on stage during the set as well. Quite a lot of manually triggering, tweaking patches and a good deal of multitasking. But the thing is, I love how that has changed the live set. Don’t get me wrong, having no safety net or backing tracks certainly does bring some challenges. But it lets the show be a little more open and less on the rails. We still get to play the songs properly without compromise. But it gives us even more flexibility on top of that! Yes things can go wrong, but it’s just more proof it’s live. And if you want to hear what I’m rambling about (including my mistakes) then you can do so but coming to the album launch gig on August 23rd at @room2liveglasgow . Still racking up thank yous and acknowledgements for the run of Euro dates: gear edition. Being in guitar bands is fun, but also difficult with its gear intensive nature. One of the things that made this @actiongroupmusic tour possible is that @_theenickwilliams and I were able to do a lot of it by @eurail It’s still a lot of gear to carry, but as human pack mules we could each roll one Pelican case, a gear bag slung over the shoulder, and a @cotopaxi backpack for personal stuff. It was still heavy! A tiring slog at times but this wouldn’t have been possible if we’d needed to rent a van. Also, setting up the spaghetti 🍝 from case to case would have been a non-starter so this patch system Ross Grady @508_loop_detected and I designed literally made some of the shows possible. Five minutes to set up. There is not enough thank you energy in the world to bestow upon him. Additionally, the mixer he designed to spec (see blurry photo with bright knobs) makes playing a breeze. There were six other 508 modules in there. Introducing your instructor Bendik Baksaas for our next IMMERSIONS' workshop about modular synths 🔮🎧 @bendikbaksaas Years refining his awareness of emotion and dance, has led Bendik Baksaas to finding his unique voice in techno. With a background from heavy metal, norwegian folk music and jazz, he is currently devoted to bringing the ancient viking traditions into the night club. As a live performer, Baksaas rests in the flux state of improvisation, and cherishes the serendipity of being present in the experience of sound. As a producer, he gravitates towards holistic tracks, where every detail is essential to the groove. Call and response, action and reaction, a beat with silence in between, is the inherent rhythm in everything. Baksaas examines this phenomena in music with playful attention. Bendiks new album Flex Core will be released on Snick Snack October 11th 2024. Workshop participants are invited to an early listen here. All melodies and riffs from modular and drums from Ableton.
