We have parked Ulysses Blue up for the week at the beautiful Bobbin Head Marina in the impressing Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park to remove our gearbox for some attention. Then it was time to go out with our sail boat for the first time with an experienced sailor on our side. Glad we did, because the sea conditions were not easy. Also our cooling system of the engine broke and the engine was overheating. We can't believe we had to get towed back to the harbour on our first sail. What a day! DAY TWO •••••••••• Motor is fixed and we are able to go out again. Actually we didn't had much time to document everything in pictures. So basically on day two we just sailed to do some more maneuvers. DAY THREE •••••••••••• And on day three we anchored on a nearby beach for a first swim and dinghy motor test. So amazed, cause this badass old two-stroke engine is still working. The dinghy has to be patched up, though! DAY FOUR & FIVE •••••••••••••••••• It was time for a longer ride. So we sailed all the way to the next Island "El Hierro" to stay there in the marina over night. On the way out of the marina we had to fight through some nasty waves and gusts of up to 37 knots until we reached the open oecan. Overall we had good wind (17-25 knots), decent waves (1.0-2.0 meter) and a fun and educational time. It was a tough start into sailing with our own boat, but a good one after all. And we ended up with a new big to do list and maybe have to consider to make some changes on the sails and how we can handle them. 💥Also we crashed the dock a little bit with our bow. Yes, it's difficult to maneuver such a heavy boat in a harbour when you can't see enough from the cockpit and have lots of gust and therefore unexpected abdrift. 🙈

Post 1/2 Well that was a cold weekend 😂 I’m pretty sure I have only just now defrosted. This weekend included several trips to marine superstore - and currently thinking about investing in the company? @marinesuperstore hit me up for investment opportunities 😂 ✔️ Antifoul scraped and solvent applied ✔️ Solvent sprayed off / frost bite on fingers ✔️ Several solvent burns on arms ✔️ All drainage pipes replaced ✔️ Bow crack hollowed out and half filed ✔️ Yellow scrape along hill when joe crashed into a buoy sanded out ✔️ Fenders sprayed and cleaned off ✔️ Deck holes filled ✔️ Various scrapes, dings, scuffs filled in ready to be polished ✔️ Brought a ladder that Alice hates going up 😘 Honestly - pretty chuffed with how much we got done. A big shout out to Joes dad that helped with the pipe work (coming up in the next post) simply put, if neither Joe or I can see results instantly we find it very hard to concentrate… something we are both working on.
