We finally took the most famous train ride in Sri Lanka, and it was so much fun! 🚂🛤️⛰️🌳 🚂 We didn’t want to do the entire journey, but a 20-30min ‘kid-tolerant experience’ of it 😅 So we bought tickets from Heel Oya station to get off from Demodara. We were recommended the “special train” - one with an observational deck and stops at the Nine Arch Bridge for 10 mins - which the other trains apparently don’t do! 🚂 The wooden cabin (which is their first class cabin) was so beautiful! All seats were facing the open windows. The hill country air is cool, low pollution and perfect! So you really don’t need any air conditioning anyway 😃 There were reading lights and plug points too! The views were beautiful and every time the train went through a tunnel, the kids scream! So keep an ear for that 😅 🚂 We paid Rs. 1000 per person - including Theo. It doesn’t matter where you get off from - even if it’s two stations, the price is the same. Once we got on the train, the guard directed us to sit in the first class cabin because it was almost empty at that point as it was avurudu day 😄 Or this cabin gets booked in advance and is apparently always full 😅 🚂 The Heel Oya train station was worn down, but let’s say vintage to be nice 😁 Some of the gadgets were literally from the colonial days and looked like in great condition! The coolest part: the station had a book corner, which is a really cool idea! 👏🏽 ⭐️ PRO TIP: If you want to capture crowd-free videos and images at the Nine Arch Bridge, you must aim to be here in the early morning hours of 6-8am.
