What a beautiful journey it has been! Yesterday I had the pleasure of returning back to med school to teach at the aesthetic club. A great group of students who see the value of being a part of the field with a focus on the naturopathic and holistic side. ⠀ ⠀ While the name has changed and a brand new building sits tall as a flagship of the campus, I can still remember how it felt to be in school after almost a decade out on my own. ⠀ ⠀ ✅ Drive. Passion. Commitment. The most valuable assets that I have been able to reinvest back into myself. ⠀ ⠀ Truth be told, a lot of what we learned in school is not used on a daily basis, the ability to learn and understand science and critical thinking skills is mastered. ⠀ ⠀ We went through the basics of aesthetics and it quickly developed into a business class with the Q&A portion. These may also be called spider veins. Whilst dilated or enlarged vessels may appear anywhere on the body, they are most commonly found around areas of mucous membrane (including the corners and inner nostrils), nose & cheeks (often as a symptom of rosacea) and the legs. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Facial telangiectasia can be genetic (such as rosacea) or environmentally exacerbated. my first few days in aesthetics college have been nothing short of amazing 🤍 it’s not easy going back to school. but in some ways, this doesn’t even feel like school. it feels like an extension of what I like learning for fun. a lot of what I read and listen to is already about skincare, so sometimes I’m in awe that I’m actually learning this to use in my career! it’s so darn exciting. THE CATAGEN PHASE The second phase of your hair growth cycle is Catagen. This period is short, lasting only 2-3 weeks on average. In this transitional phase, hair stops growing and detaches itself from the blood supply and is then named a club hair. THE TELOGEN PHASE Finally, hair enters it’s third and final stage called the Telogen phase. This phase begins with a resting period, where club hairs rest in the root while new hair begins to grow beneath it. This phase lasts for around 3 months. After this time, the resting club hairs will fall out to allow the new hair to come through the hair follicle. This is nothing to be alarmed about and is a natural process that should go completely unnoticed. Each follicle is independent and goes through the growth cycle at different times so you don’t lose patches of hair all at once and only shed 50-100 hairs each day. Oh my gosh I was involved in a street fight 😱 • • • Just joking :) • I finally got PRP! • To refresh, rejuvenate, renew, revive, revamp my tired face. • Have you heard of PRP, platelet rich plasma? • You do a decent sized blood draw and then centrifuge out the red blood cells. All that remains is the golden goodness you see in Photo #2. • The golden part is full of platelets, which are then micro-needled and injected back into various regions of the body. In my case, the face. • Purely an aesthetic treatment today, but for those of you less vain and with more legit injuries and pain, PRP can be injected into musculoskeletal areas that may need repair, like tendons, muscles, or joints. • When this concentrate of platelets arrives on the scene, it initiates a healing cascade and signals to the body to start regenerating tissue. • So for a PRP facial, the result is typically a boost in collagen (ie less pronounced wrinkles and more perkiness) and improvement of melasma, a darkening of freckles during pregnancy. And also a mole that bugged me. 😐 Last week, when in Portland I took these off between clients 🤣 skin tags aren’t dangerous or harmful but can be annoying if in locations where they catch on thing like bras, undies 🩲, necklines..etc (side note the underpants emoji is my new favorite 🩲 🤣) 😯 After removal is the hard part of leaving it alone! It was a little itchy but otherwise not painful. After the growth is removed a scab forms and when it falls off there is fresh skin underneath. NO cutting, no downtime!! 😲 *if the mole is deep in the dermis it may return.
