Your @spike_events team now & then 👉🏻🥹 Do you know the story of how Spike came to be? Probably, but I'm going to tell you again anyway. Spenser started DJing school events in 2006 (yes, as a freshman in high school) and we met in 2010 at a MA DECA district competition. We were both competing at the State Conference that year, and Spike Events (known back then as Spike Entertainment) was Spenser's project. He went on to get a degree in audio engineering while also interning for some audio companies & working for Bose during college - sound is really his thing. Spenser built Spike's first photo booth in 2013, and after college started shifting the business from a school dance focus to weddings. I started to get more involved in the business when I took over instagram in 2018 (you're welcome), and Spike has been rapidly expanding since 2019 (even with the year or so long pause due to the pandemic). Spike started as just DJ services, but we've now expanded into lighting, 5 different photo booths, arcade tables and audio guest books, and we have no plans to slow down. Here's to 18 years of Spike, 14 years of us, and many more to come 🎉
Blue hour vs golden hour, what are your thoughts? I am always so torn when someone asks me if I prefer blue hour or golden hour. Golden hour has this beautiful magical warm glow to it that you can’t re-create any other time of day…but blue hour has this soft romantic light that happens so quickly and can create the most beautiful soft colors in the sky. Sometimes you can even get a pink glow that falls between golden and blue hour that is just extra romantic. What do you prefer? Before I officially sign a new couple, I always get on a zoom call with them. This is an integral part of my workflow. Why? Because in order to get the one-of-a-kind experience my couples rave about… we need to make sure we’re a good fit for one another. One of my #1 priorities is that my couples and I totally vibe. Just because you love a photographers portfolio isn’t enough in my opinion. You need to feel super comfortable with them, and during the consultation call is when we get to chat all about you two as a couple, how you met, fun things you like to do together, and we can go over all the details about your day. This is one of the essential parts of my process and one of the secret ingredients to the signature MHP experience. I don’t take these calls lightly. Hiring vendors is a big decision and if I truly feel like we’re not a good fit, I will say something. Part of one of my strongest beliefs behind my business is I never want it to feel transactional. I want to genuinely get to know couples and become friends with them. This makes the BIGGEST impact the day of your wedding.
