I am a black girl healing childhood trauma. I am a black girl with anxiety so deep some days it hurts my body. I am a black girl in therapy seeking understanding about my life and how I process. I am a black girl mourning the loss of those in my life who weren’t able to get the support needed. The impacts of mental illness is that it also impacts our overall health, many of us have elders living with high blood pressure, I wonder what would life look like if we got support for the PTSD that we experience from anti-blackness? Didn’t see much but I’m sure there was still a lot coming in the following hours. Not really sure what this sign means, I didn’t read the description for this piece, but I do enjoy the #typography design and colours aaand gotta rep Scarborough. . This is my favourite outfit in the Fall: neutral hoody + bubble vest in accented colour + classic blue jeans. The vest is #EddieBauer, and theres #nostalgic significance in that because when I was in elementary school Eddie Bauer was the shit and my family could not afford to thread me out in anything new so we shopped at goodwill. Ironically, I found this vest at Value Village when I was already an adult - some things don’t change. When I saw it, I had to have it. The white cursive writing in the logo is fly AF and it’s in forest green, my favourite colour. Now that I think about it, it’s pretty cool that the letters in the background are in cursive, just like the old Eddie Bauer logo. . Shoutout my late friend Brian, I didn’t know it at the time, but as I reflect: he’s probably the main reason I started getting into outdoorsy clothes. Thoughts on #nuitblanchescarborough 📈 great turnout; I didn’t go last year but apparently there were way more people 🌀 Loved how the installations were integrated with the surrounding environment. Going to the Scarborough Civic Centre always feels special and the event was thoughtfully planned out to celebrate its beautiful architecture. It was also blended seamlessly with the Scarborough Town Centre, which made navigation very intuitive. 🔛 Traffic flow in the mall was a bit chaotic and altho I originally loved the idea of Nuit Blanche @ STC I didn’t totally enjoy the experience of being in there. 🎭 Theme: “Queens & Kings of Scarborough” - Why is the art of Scarborough Nuit Blanche consolidated under a thematic concept? The City’s other districts aren’t curated in that way. Would be interested to hear the thoughts of this year’s curator @ashleymckenziebarnes 🎈Overall very family-friendly, which I like bc it’s so nice to experience Nuit Blanche as an intergenerational event, (as opposed to some of the more frosh-like atmospheres I’ve seen downtown). It does make me wonder tho if we are trying to overcompensate for the stigma of Scarborough as a “scary dangerous place” by hosting such a wholesome event.
