10 YEARS. What a journey it’s been! This week marks our studio’s 10-year anniversary of our début launch. We started with a collection of 24 individual works—weavings, furniture, lighting, sculptures, and works on paper. We designed and built out the exhibition specifically for our solo show in Los Angeles called Dark Matter. The latest tapestry is now hanging ready for the exhibition set up tomorrow. I think I have pretty much got everything ready for it. I have never worked so close to the bone before and I would like to send a personal thank you to Man Men seasons 3 through 5 for getting me through the rather mundane and never ending stitching process (and apologies to anyone who thinks I am considering the nature and complexities of the human condition when I am doing this). The tapestry was inspired by local suffragettes turning a reservoir purple (please see earlier post if you want the details). My girls are emptying baskets of purple flowers rather than dye, and the flowers are turned purple by the blood of Saint Agatha over on the right. Her breasts were cut off because she refused the attentions of a Roman dickhead. Over a millennium and a half separate these stories but the theme is still the same, and even today we are still having to stand up for our rights. I was cross I couldn't do the sub narratives in the skirts but managed to sneak some stuff in the baskets, scarf and in the trees and actually managed to say all I wanted to in the end. There is so much going on in this, the skirts would have been too much so it was the right decision. I am changing my mind daily about the title. It is about 1.80 by 2.56m but I haven't properly measured yet, nor have I calculated the hours but it will be well over 2500. It is not the biggest but certainly the longest to weave. Yesterday I had off, doing a jigsaw of da vinci's mural of the last supper, the millefleur tapestries in its background now just an indistinct cruddy brown mess. Probably best not to think too hard on whether the hours we put into these things are actually worth it. Could be worse, could be a lace maker. In this harsh Arctic climate, lichens emerge as the predominant form of life sustained on the surface, albeit for only part of the year when ice melts. The stark dichotomy between the expansive ice-covered terrain and the lichen-clad flood zone plateau serves as a poignant reminder of both the fragility and resilience inherent in life's existence within such extreme environments."

Nóri a szövése előtt gyakorolt kicsit, és a Hercegnő nagyon kézségesen segítette őt a szövésében. E csodálatosan szép szövet vászna egyágú, ibolyakék yak-selyem-merinó. Detti szövése. #strandfelvetes Detti mikor meglátta az oldalainkon a Strand felvetés megosztását, ellenálhatatlan vágyat érzett arra, hogy szőjön benne valami szépet. A mai napra sikerült időpontot foglalnia. Mikor reggel a finom pamut-len fonalaiból bevetésre kerültek az első sorok, még hezitált kicsit, hogy sálat, vagy kenyérkendőket készítsen. Aztán mire kettőt fordultam a foglalkozás reggeli teendői között, Detti már el is döntötte, mi lesz a sorsa a szépséges fehér, lime zöld, és egkék színű fonalainak. Anikó szövése. #bordofelvetes Anikó tulajdonképpen egy elmaradt családi találkozónak, és egy szövés lemondásának köszönheti, azt, hogy ma eljöhetett a Műhelybe szőni. Reggel mosolyogva lépet be az ajtón, és a kéztörlő választása után, ( minden szövő különböző színű kéztörlő közül választhat, amit a nap folyamán a mosdóban használ) rögvest a szépséges fonalait vette elő a fonalas táskájából. A megypiros, bordó-piros erősen, és finoman zizis merinó, valamint a zöld, sárga selyem buklé, és a rózsaszín alpaka-merinó-pamut fonalaiból lenyűhgözően szép sálat kreált a Gésa bordó felvetésében. A sál alatti "top" valójában egy 50 cm hosszú párnahuzat szövet. E két anyag olyannyira izgalmasan passzol egymáshoz, és annyira szépek, hogy mindenki hangot adott a tetszésének, felbolydult a Műhely, mikor felöltöztettem a babát. Valóban gyönyörűseges munkák. Zsuzsi szövése. #ezustmedalfelvetes Zsuzsi, aki csakúgy, mint Zsani, szintén nagyon elején jár a szövős útján, azzal az elhatározással érkezett, hogy mindenképpen ruhaanyagot szeretne szőni az Ezüst medál felvetésben. Az egyik olyan fonal, amivel egy kezdő szövő is könnyen dolgozik az a burett selyem, ami kitűnően megfelel egy könnyű tavaszi, nyári felsőrész anyagának megszövéséhez. Zsuzsi nem tétovázott, a polcról hamar az orsózóasztalra terelte a 4 motring burett selymet. A fehér, krém, égkék, és halványrózsaszín fonalak pont azt a finom pasztell hangulatot varázsolták a felvetésből, amire Zsuzsi vágyott. A színek váltásánál a kettes szálváltásos technikát alkalmazta Zsuzsi, így adva egy kis dinamikát a világos árnyalatú szövetnek. Kiváncsian várom e szépséges kelméből kreált ruhadarabot. Zsani szövése. #selyemcukorfelvetes Zsani, miután korán reggel megérkezett útja egyenesen a fonalas polchoz vezetett. A Selyemcukor zizis felvetés várta őt ma, amihez narancssárga színű fonalat keresett. A mulbery selyem, amire szemet vetett Zsani, a felvetés színeihez nagyon hasonlító motring volt. A bordűröket kevéske napsárga vetülékkel, valamint intenzív narancssárga színű selyemszalagból alkotta. Zsani a szokásos nyugalmával, türelmével szőtte végig a napot, aminek most is ragyogóan szép végeredményét láthatjuk a fotókon.
