As we continue to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, I wanted to share a win we accomplished in Oklahoma for our educators! We recently passed Senate Bill 1520 which removed earnings limitations on retired teachers who choose to return to teach after age 59.5. This allows retired teachers to return to work in a public school, without jeopardising their monthly retirement benefits. Safeguarding Oklahoma veterans is important! I was so pleased in February that Senate Bill 1215 passed to allow any 100% permanently disabled veterans or their surviving spouses to be eligible for their annual sales tax exemption. Many disabled veterans unknowingly missed the registration deadline when the date was changed to November 1, 2023, so the purpose of this bill was to protect disabled veterans from losing their exemption status. Advocating for your community makes a difference! This week the Oklahoma House passed the fuel tax exemption for our state Emergency Medical Services (EMS) districts. As we join together to participate in the National Day of Prayer, I wanted to share a few things that are on my heart that I am specifically praying for today.
