The renowned architect made his home and his office in this beautifully restored colonial-style bungalow which was built over a hundred years ago. Four similar houses were constructed by the British, on what is now Chaudhry Khaliquzzaman Road. The houses were for the use of generals and corps commanders on their visits to Karachi. In the early 1900s, a wave of migrants departed Iran, seeking new opportunities in the sub-continent. Karachi, a pivotal stop on their journey, enticed some migrants to not only pause but also establish themselves. This modest beginning would later blossom into Karachi's vibrant Irani café culture. At its zenith, these cafes, exceeding a hundred in number, introduced a different genre of cuisine. They forged inclusive havens where diverse individuals—ranging from shop proprietors and students to newspaper editors, office workers, and intellectuals—could convene. Whether for profound discussions, exquisite Persian cuisine, or a comforting cup of tea, these spots welcomed all. Café Pehlvi and Cafe Darakshan, which were originally a unified entity, underwent a transformation following the owner's passing. The subsequent division of the property between his two sons led to the construction of a dividing wall. Remnants of their shared history endure in the form of a blocked archway, once a passage connecting the two cafes. The Galerie Sadequain, also referred to as the Sadequain Art Gallery, was established in 2011 as a permanent showcase for the artistic legacy of renowned Pakistani artist Syed Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi. The Mohatta Palace is a museum located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. Designed by Muhammad komail Hussain, the palace was built in 1927 in the posh seaside locale of Clifton as the summer home of Shivratan Mohatta, a Hindu Marwari businessman from what is now the modern-day Indian state of Rajasthan. The palace was built in the tradition of stone palaces of Rajasthan, using pink Jodhpur stone in combination with the local yellow stone from nearby Gizri. Mohatta could enjoy this building for only about two decades before the partition of India.
