THANK YOU, GOODNIGHT (2024) ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ Anyone who knows me, knows I can’t resist a good music retrospective. It’s probably my favourite subgenre of documentaries. For Bon Jovi fans, this is a must obviously. For the rest of us who lived when many of their most iconic songs were in heavy rotation — part of a defining life moments soundtrack — this is also going to suck you in. I was never a huge Bon Jovi fan (I was more Guns N’ Roses and Def Leppard). However, they always seemed like good guys to me, that could rock on occasion (as Dean Winchester would say). They’ve churned out some memorable hits, and more than anything now, looking back on 40 years, they’ve proven stamina and staying power. They really have seen a million faces, and rocked them all. The first two episodes are my favourite. This is what I’m here for. What’s going on in the music scene and in the world when a band forms and breaks it big. It’s that secret sauce. It’s that being in the right place at the right time. It’s the drive and WANT. What this docuseries does that’s a little different though is we get a portrait of young, hungry rockers juxtaposed with aging rock stars being forced to confront their own mortality and the hardest question of all — when is it time to call it quits before you become a parody of yourself? I really appreciated this aspect of the series, but felt it might have gotten stretched a little too much over four episodes. Before we wrap it all up, it starts to feel a bit draggy and a tad self-indulgent. Before we hit that note though, there’s A LOT of great stuff, and Jon’s struggles with his vocals as presented does have a poignancy to it all. Had the best time last night! My beloved (!) son surprised me with concert tix for 2 of my FAVE 80’s bands at the Greek theater in Los Angeles. We met up with friends there! He and I used to go to concerts when he was younger. Linden Park, Beastie Boys, Good Charlotte & more! The parking situation was awful. Paid $40 (hello So Cal!) to park in a be dirt lot. Directed where to park, we were stuck when it came time to leave. 😠 The back tires did not touch the ground. Car in front of (very close) seemed to be there permanently. The attendants had to be creative in getting us out ($40 later!). The guy said this happens often. WTF??? @greek_theatre Aside from the parking fiasco, it was a wonderful night! The best time with my boy! Was at my son’s beautiful LA home pre & post concert, where I was happily greeted by Sake, his Shiba Inu pup.
