No filter light on Lincoln now 15 years old . He’s much better now but was really in trouble last week . Couldn’t even walk . Bracing myself- it’s possible he just wasn’t getting his meds while I was gone and that plus the heat …. His one love was his two long routes through the hood . No cancer , clean bloodwork - it’s just hips giving out and his back paws 🐾. just broke the vet's rule about not taking Müki for any more walks. He’s a walker snd it's what he wanted to do. He didn’t want a treat and he didn’t want to go into the backyard, he nosed his leash and I couldn’t say no. So Rocco, Müki and I went across the street to Woodside. Unlike many shadow performers, I prefer my totems to function as aesthetic objects in their own right when they are dangling in space from wires. I apply several layers of gouache and decorate them with the same sort of effects that occur in my paintings and collages. They are all based on extensive research into ancient art forms that epitomize the grotesque. Some of my totems are 20 years old and have been repaired many times with tape: arms, legs, heads and particularly their genitals all fall off. When projected onto walls and huge ceilings they form the most breathtaking displays that morph and bleed into one another like Technicolor watercolours. I am one of the very few performance artists in the world to use colour on such a vast scale in all my performances. Most, do not even consider it's vibrant potency and power and it is curiously overlooked. One woman in the audience totally dominated the event by attempting to undermine my authenticity with an endless stream of tongue in cheek questions designed to embarrass me. However, the audience rapidly became irritated by her and told her to be quiet as I had not had the chance to speak and she had been speaking for over 30 minutes. The world is full of such insecure people who love attention and want to play clever dick with someone who has been quietly making art for decades. I let these people bore everyone to tears with their suffocating rant. When they allow me to speak I deliver lively anecdotes about all the amazing performer's I have worked with during my life. Taking a stroll in The Netherlands in the1980s. This was fairly normal behaviour back in the day. I had just stepped out of a 9 hour performance to savour the fragrant Dutch air, with its balmy infusion of the most unusual olfactory ingredients. I often interrupt a performance when I get bored or distracted and go for a little walk, or take a bus, in this manner of deportment to do some window shopping. Invariably, I am looking for amputee dolls to buy. Some brave people cut their genitals off with a razor blade, or crawl through shattered glass in the name of performance art, but this was my contribution to the arena of 'live art' some 30 years ago. My work has changed a lot since then. My cleaning bills have almost reduced by half too, thanks to a few much needed behavioural changes.
