The 2008 Nicholson Organ of Llandaff Cathedral, Cardiff. This organ was built after the Cathedral was struck by lightning which rendered the old organ all but unplayable. The casing for the positive division of the old organ remains, but is unused. In a chat I had to the organist as he was leaving, he told me that the organ was probably too large for this building but he wouldn't complain, besides there are plans to add another 32 foot reed to the pedals. St. Agnes Episcopal church, Miami, Florida The Historical St. Agnes Church was founded by Bahamian immigrants. The front organ (left: Great & Choir + Pedal; right: Swell and Pedal) is a 1912 Austin with some additions; the Antiphonal organ is from a Moller. The instrument was installed in several stages over the years until completion in 2005, and is currently in recovery after serious water damage some years ago when the church roof had just been taken apart for repair, and an unexpected heavy rain storm moved in. This kind of mishap is not unusual in Florida! The organ dated from a rebuild by Rushworth and Draper in 1953, what was replaced by a Phoenix electronic organ in 2013. ART DÜSSELDORF 2024 ☄️ Booth I-01 (as part of E.ON Change) For Art Düsseldorf 2024, nouveaux deuxdeux presents works by artist Mona Schulzek (*1992) from two distinct series. Exploring the connection between humanity and the cosmos is a central theme in Schulzek’s young oeuvre. Since childhood, she’s been fascinated by space and its associated phenomena—such as the vastness, the deep blackness, and the unknown. Schulzek continually situates humanity within the context of these cosmic phenomena. At Art Düsseldorf, visitors become resonating bodies within the macrocosm, bridging the Earth’s depths and outer space, experienced not just visually, but also through sound and physical sensation. Schulzek’s installation ‚Spitting off the Edge of the World‘ (2023) emits a deep hum, enhancing the immersive experience. The pipes emit a frequency of approximately 16 Hz. This is a subcontra-C, often referred to in the context of organ music as the ‚Demutston‘ marking the threshold of human auditory perception. With her series ‚Atmosphere ≠ Totality‘ (2023), Schulzek focuses on the various spheres framing human existence. In dioramas, she captures relics from both the Earth’s interior and outer space in metallic mounts, creating a sense of weightlessness. Whether lava rocks or meteorite fragments, these pieces serve as ambassadors from distant worlds, blurring the line between earthly and extraterrestrial origins. Laura Helena Wurth (author and critic for DIE Kultur FAZ and other media) and Alexander Wilmschen (curator of the Kestnergesellschaft) have selected artist representatives for the project CHANGE presented by E.ON Foundation. Schulzek has won the famous art prize ‚junger westen‘ 2023 and a ‚Max Ernst scholarship‘ in 2019. Failing keyboards... (This won't get many likes but gives an insight of our daily life in the shop 😏) We got an emergency call about "keyboards feeling funny" and ciphers in the organ. Upon arrival we noticed that keys were sagging (1,2) At inspection we saw the balance pins, which should be in the *center* of the slot, were all the way to the front end (3) Then we saw why: the balance rail is broken off (4) due to bad construction. Balance rails have to be assembled to the frame with a tenon & groove joint!! Considered one of ten buildings that changed America, Trinity Church is an architectural masterpiece including its unique collection of stained-glass windows by designers such as Edward Burne-Jones, William Morris, and John La Farge, its murals, wood carvings and more. 🕙 We are currently open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am-5 pm, with last ticket sold at 4:30 pm. Note that there will be no tours on SATURDAY, 4/13, due to the Anne Berry Bonnyman Symposium taking place in the Sanctuary, but the Shop will be open.
