HIGH COUNTRY LIFE. This was a great way to end two days on the Bogong High Plains. The day prior I had walked up Mount Bogong and and as this day came to end, two hikers set up camp near Cope Hut and got the fire going in the fireplace inside the hut as I photographed. Have you met Andrew? Andrew Stubbings is co-owner and co-host of Heytesbury House. Andrew wears many hats including host, waiter, housekeeper and property maintenance. He is also our resident photographer and lead gardener which are both passions of his. Andrew was a landscape gardener in his previous life so he enjoys spending time out in the garden, which is lucky because the gardens take quite a bit of time to maintain. He finds the process of gardening quite therapeutic but equally rewarding when he gets to see his garden creations come to life. Photography is Andrew's hobby. He loves nothing more than jumping in the car and exploring the local sights and capturing photos of his adventures. He appreciates the continuous learning that comes with photography and you will often find him participating in a photography course or workshop. CURRENT EXHIBITION The WeaverBirds 'Into the Forest' 10am-4pm daily Closes Mother’s Day @surfcoastweaverbirdsofficial Our opening celebration last week was a fabulous gathering that quickly turned into quite a red dot frenzy! We are so excited for artists Joy Beeby, Roe Clapham, Anne Davies, Jane Honman, Kathy Harry and Sam Harry, who have all sold many of their stunning works. Word is travelling far and wide, with many visitors saying as they enter the space "I've been told I must see this show!" About the WeaverBirds In 2007, keen basketmaker Joy Beeby came to live in Aireys Inlet. An active member of the Basketmakers of Victoria, Joy started a local group which became known as the WeaverBirds. The group grew quickly and many basketmakers have participated in the group's activities over the years. It has become a hub for meeting local artists, sharing ideas and building friendships. We meet weekly to encourage each other, to learn and experiment with different techniques. We often discuss the cultural connections evident in the history of basketmaking, acknowledge the Australian First Nations traditions as well as those from other cultures around the world. Each person works on their individual projects, but Joy will often have something in mind that she'd like to share. We have regular connections with the Basketmakers of Vic. Sometimes we visit their centre in Wattle Park and recently they visited Aireys Inlet for a day and we all had a chance to talk and showcase our current projects. Plant materials we use are grown in our gardens or gifted by other gardeners. Often an oversupply of materials are shared within the group. There is also a lot of recycling, with members collecting and sharing all kinds of natural and synthetic materials.
