Tinker Thursday Bat Off Shoulder. Yesterday was a cool mail day with Griffey and Tinker. Thank you @wiseguysportscards Adam you are always so fair on price, and easy to deal with amazing shipping! Thanks! With the yellow background I could have written again about Tinker's phenomenal beekeeping skills and apiary, but I dug deeper. Tinker was the first Hall of Famer out of Orlando, Florida, he was also big into real estate. There is a building that still stands today, he owned bars, and pool halls. He also built Tinker Field which is a historical landmark. Also I did not know that Tinker was manager for the Cubs during WWI. He was manager for the Cubs from 1916 to 1918 the peak and end of the War. Apparently he was pivotal in holding the Cubs together. It's interesting he was in his mid 30's but it was considered too old for service. This was 100% a Card Nerd Alert 🚨🤓🚨 post. As far as the card goes, it's slightly off to the left, but it's a very nice 6. Plan on having it re-holdered at The National. This is the house that started the historic preservation movement in Orlando. The Newell House was built in 1885 by George R. Newell, a Baltimore attorney, for his bride, Susie Gibson. At the time, the other homes on Lake Avenue were also occupied by newlyweds, so the area became known as “Honeymoon Row.” It was lived in continuously by the Newells and their two sons, Leigh G. and Sidney P. The home was then occupied by Sidney and his wife, Eleanor Hope Cobb, and two daughters Eleanor Hope and Sue Gibson, until 1970, when both Sidney and Eleanor Hope died. It was formerly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its listing status changed in 1975. This was due to the house being sold by Sidney and Eleanor Hope’s estate after an attempt to have it purchased and restored by a local historical group failed because of lack of funds. It was demolished the same year by its new owners, who built condos (slide 3) on the rear of the lot and a house of a similar plan (slide 2) on the front of the lot. The uproar at the loss of this piece of history led to a survey of the existing historic structures and the creation of the first historic district Downtown in 1980 and Lake Cherokee 1981. #orlandohistory #historicorlando
