Today’s pick is a very delicate paper serviette given to service personnel, along with a packet of sandwiches, who were on parade for the opening of the Cenotaph. In the centre has "Souvenir in Affectionate Remembrance of "The Glorious Dead" Unveiled November 11th 1920 by His Majesty the King." and a drawing of a military parade going past the Cenotaph, underneath which is an explanation of what happened on the day. George Henry Buse was born in the Cornish village of St Minver in 1880. One of four children, his parents were Richard and Angelina. Richard was an agricultural labourer, but his son followed a different trade, finding employment as a stonemason. In the summer of 1904, George married a woman called Mary. They went on to have a daughter, Olive, who was born in 1906, and set up home in Splatt, on the outskirts of the village. When war came to Europe in the summer of 1914, George stepped up to play his part. He enlisted by the summer of 1916, and joined the 2nd Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment. Private Buse’s unit served on the Western Front, but it is unclear whether he fought overseas. By the winter of 1916, George had fallen ill. He contracted pneumonia, and was admitted to the military hospital in Devonport, Devon. The condition was to prove too severe, however, and he passed away on 28th January 1917: he was 36 years of age. George Henry Buse was brought back to Cornwall for burial. Manifestarea de amploare a avut loc în Parcul Carol I. din București, intre orele 1000-1700 ale zilelor de 20-21 aprilie 2024.Uniformele purtate de către custozii tradițiilor militare de la aTM au fost de: Infanterie (mod.1916, dar și mod.1917), Vânători, Grăniceri, Vânători de Munte și Jandarmi.Reconstituitorii aTM au patrulat perimetrul în formație, în cadență și făcut și demonstrații istorice, constând în prezentare de echipament și accesorii, mânuiri de armă, exerciții tactice, scrima cu arma, luptă corp la corp, cu baioneta și cu lopata Linnemann, mânuiri de îndemânare și ceremonialuri militare. Au fost organizate ceremonii, în comun cu membrii celorlalte organizații de profil participante, precum înălțarea și coborârea drapelului pe platou, sub comanda și în execuția aTM, dar și 2 parade. Pte Jack Trevan, 14th Battalion, E Company from Mount Pleasant, Victoria. A compositor who enlisted on 1st October 1914. He embarked from Melbourne on board Ulysses on 22 December 1914 and served as a bugler. He was wounded at Gallipoli and died at sea #OTD in 1915 aged 19. In 1944, Bartleship Wisconsin of the Iowa-class of battleships would be completed for active duty with the United States Navy. Despite what many people would think, she would not be the last Iowa-class battleship commissioned. Her hull identification number was BB-64 which would make many believe she was the last of her class to be completed, however, USS Missouri which would be identified as BB-63 would be completed just two months after Wisconsin, making Wisconsin the second to last member completed for the class. When Wisconsin officially began her service, she would be sent to the Pacific and assist in multiple operations including the bombardment of enemy Japanese locations. After the wars end, she would be used during the Korean War and later in the Persian Gulf War. Frank Knox January 1, 1874 – April 28, 1944 Artillery officer (WW1) He was the Republican vice presidential candidate in 1936 and Secretary of the Navy under Franklin D. Roosevelt during most of World War 2. Born in Boston, he attended Alma College and served with the Rough Riders during the Spanish–American War. After the war, he became a newspaper editor in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and state chairman of the Republican Party. He was a leading supporter of Theodore Roosevelt, the Progressive candidate for president in 1912. World War 1: When the U.S. declared war on Germany in 1917, he rejoined the Army. He reached the rank of Colonel and served as an artillery officer in France. After WW1: Knox had called for the internment of Japanese Americans as early as 1933. After the war he returned to the newspaper business. The 1936 Republican National Convention nominated a ticket of Alf Landon and Knox, and they were defeated by Roosevelt and John Nance Garner in the 1936 election. World War 2: He was an advocate of preparedness. As an internationalist, he supported aid to the Allies and opposed isolationism. In July 1940, he became secretary of the Navy under Roosevelt with Henry L. Stimson as Secretary of War, part of the Democratic president's effort to build bipartisan support for his foreign and defense policies following the defeat of France. Knox carried out Roosevelt's plan to expand the US Navy into a force capable of fighting in both the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans. Knox was mentioned by name in Adolf Hitler's speech of December 11, 1941, in which Hitler asked for a German declaration of war against the United States. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he visited Hawaii to investigate the sabotage that he believed to have taken place there. Although the FBI and military intelligence later disproved those claims, Knox continued to push for internment of Japanese Americans. He died of heart attack.

Sloužil v 8. pražském pionýrském praporu (tehdy byl již nemýlím-li se prečíslovaný a přejmenovaný na sapérský). Dle rodinné tradice bylo foto pořízeno na italské frontě kolem r. 1915. Herefordshire Trees: The Pembridge Verdun Oak An historic oak tree in Pembridge, one of Herefordshire's treasured black and white villages, has been given a new lease of life in the form of a sculpture after it was tragically struck by lightning in September 2020, splitting the tree and resulting in its major boughs having to be felled. The sculpture, carved using the trunk and three sections of the tree's upper limbs, shows a country man, a soldier and a female to represent those who have lost their lives to conflict and the resilience of the community. The Oak was planted over a hundred years ago, grown from an acorn taken from a wood adjacent to the site of the 1916 Battle of Verdun, the longest battle of WW1. Acorns were sent across Europe as a sign of peace and remembrance, and Colonel Benn of Moorcourt planted Pembridge's acorn as part of the community's commemoration of the end of the War. Visitors are invited to admire this work of art; a permanent tribute to the Verdun Oak and the peaceful message it continues to represent. Benito Mussolini 29 July 1883 – 28 April 1945 33rd Battalion 11thBersaglieri Regiment. The Italian dictator who founded and led the National Fascist Party (PNF) during WW2. Mussolini's early political views were strongly influenced by his Socialist father, who idolised 19th-century Italian nationalist figures. He was shy, he often clashed with teachers and fellow boarders due to his proud, grumpy, and violent behaviour. He injured a classmate with a penknife and was severely punished. In July 1902, Mussolini emigrated to Switzerland, partly to avoid compulsory military service. Mussolini became active in the Italian socialist movement in Switzerland. In 1903, he was arrested by Bernese police because of his advocacy of a violent general strike, spent two weeks in jail, and was handed over to Italian police in Chiasso. In April 1904, for falsifying his passport expiration date, and was expelled from the canton of Geneva. In 1912, he became a member of the National Directorate of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI). World War 1: On February 22, 1917, he wounded by the accidental explosion of a mortar bomb on the Isonzo section of the Italian Front. After WW1: In 1922 Mussolini and other fascist leaders organized a march on Rome with the intention of forcing the king to yield the government to Mussolini. His skillful use of art and propaganda, setting fascist ideals and spreading them throughout the country. He used manifestos (such as the Futuristic ones), cinema, radio, and newspapers to extend the influence of fascism in all aspects of life. All communist members of Parliament were arrested. World War 2: Peace was essential to Italy’s well-being. Hitler attacked Russia without telling Mussolini. Mussolini decided to attack Greece through Albania in 1940 without informing the Germans. Hitler had to come to his ally’s help once again in North Africa. When the Western Allies successfully invaded Sicily in July 1943, it was obvious that collapse was imminent. Fearing for His Life, Mussolini Tries to Escape Italy. He was shot by Walter Audisio in the village of Giulino di Mezzegra.

Der Hersteller ist Wilkenson und auf die hintere Griffschale wurde ein F eingeritzt. Auf den Metallteilen der Scheide ist eine EB Stempelung zu erkennen. A day not to be missed as Royal Logistic Corps regiments from across the country come to Sledmere to take part in the multiple events of the Wagoners Challenge to see who will become the Wagoners Champions 2024! This is the third year of the competition and is set to be bigger and better than ever! 150 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps have teamed up with the Museum of the Wagoners Special Reserve and Sledmere to create this hard fought competition to see who will be crowned Wagoners Champions 2024. The Royal Logistic Corps are the soldiers in today’s army who have inherited the role of the men from the Wagoners Special Reserve who fought in WWI. The events in the competition will tell the story of the Wagoners and their journey from farms to the front. The challenges are designed to replicate the training associated with the Wagoners’ when the Unit was preparing for World War One in 1914, including: - Long Reining Horses - The Bale Challenge - Showing in Hand - Driving the General Service Wagon - Tug of War Visitors will also get to hear music from 150 Regiment Band and to see the Khukuri Dance from the Queen’s Own Ghurkha Logistic Regiment. There will be a demonstration of the museum’s Horse Ambulance and there will be information stands, vehicles on display and exciting activities and inflatables for children. On plonge dans le XXème siècle, pendant la seconde guerre mondiale... à moins qu'un saut dans le passé nous fasse ressurgir à la fin de la première guerre mondiale ? Notre beau et charismatique personnage principal essaiera donc de comprendre ce qui s'est passé, sous la vigilence de la belle Rebecca, et il n'a pas fini d'être surpris, tout comme nous... 😏 J'aime toujours autant la plume de l'autrice qui a un style hors du commun et parvient toujours à trouver les bons mots. Quand à l'histoire, elle est addictive et se lit rapidement. Je recommande vivement cette romance historique à toutes les personnes qui aiment ce genre, ainsi qu'à tous les gens qui ne l'ont pas encore essayée 😉 .
