Thank goodness hubby was off work today. We did some yard work, and then he surprised me and said, "Pack a cooler, and let's head to Glen Rose." As many times as I have been to Dinosaur Valley State Park I have never seen the River bed so dry. Because of the drought we were able to see all these tracks at the aptly named The Ballroom Site because it was covered in tracks, from the giant sauropod to a baby theropod. Happy Fossil Friday! I chose to do 2 a posts for this one on my Birthday 🎂 Week. For the first one, my dad is planning to go to Waco, Texas this week. Along with the Waco Mammoth 🦣 National Monument, which is on his list, there’s also this amazing site in the Paluxy River. In the news, a drought in Texas has exposed these magnificent dinosaur 🦕 🦖 footprints in the river to the surface. They are 113 million years old, and they show a crime scene of a predator bringing down its prey at the edge of an ancient beach. The dinosaurs 🦕 🦖 that made them are very similar, as well as one of the same species that are found in Washington DC. The largest tracks belong to a brachiosaur, Sauroposiedon protels, Aptly named Paluxysaurus. 🦕 The State Dinosaur of Texas. The other tracks were made by the top predator of the time. An all American Killer, “Acrocanthosaurus!” 🦖 The first one was found in Oklahoma in 1950, later, its bones and teeth turned up in Texas and Maryland. Acro had small feet for a big predatory dinosaur, 🦖 but this 5 ton carnivore was fast, 25 miles per hour. The last set of tracks was excavated in the 1930s and was brought to New York.
