The Senior Capstone Exhibit is on view in the Elzay Gallery of Art. All of the Bachelor of Arts and Fine Arts candidates in studio arts, art education, and graphic design have devoted a full semester to producing a thematically focused research project as part of the required senior capstone experience. The capstone project is designed to encourage students to define the complex intersection between personal voice, conceptual understanding, the ability to conduct and use research, and to effectively use their liberal arts education in a process of creating a compelling, professional presentation. Yesterday morning, volunteers and members of CHCC joined Theresa Moore of T-Time Productions and John Scott of DCYF for the Rhode Island Training School (RITS) cemetery cleanup at State Cemetery 1 Annex (CR107) to pick up deadwood and other debris from the cemetery grounds as part of the developing history curriculum surrounding the cemetery for RITS students. The new historical cemetery designation signs that were recently put up were also revealed ceremoniously by Moore, Scott and RI Historical Cemetery Commission chairwoman Pegee Malcolm. If you take Highway 17 north to Myrtle Beach from Charleston, you’ll go right through the Francis Marion National Forest. And on the way back, I was drawn to the woods. After seeing (and missing) a few entrances to the state park, I pulled over and parked at the Tibwin Managed Wetlands Complex. Along with clients @nystateparks and @palisadesparksconservancy and our multidisciplinary team, Field Operations had a conversation last month to share the latest for the 500-acre Sojourner Truth State Park. Embracing a site approach of "heal it, reveal it, feel it," the design aspires to celebrate and make legible the site's unique geological, ecological, indigenous, and cultural histories within its varied landscapes. Selective and strategic interventions will result in a more accessible and connected park. New amenities include a renovated 19th-century Mule Barn, expanded opportunities for swimming and kayaking, and creating a central commons for gathering, events, food and performance, providing a local and regional destination for hiking, gathering, and recreation.

A six footer rat snake in the tree in search for hatchlings 🐣🐍 Not creepy at all 😄 This brings you to the rule number 2 on my list - carefully observe your surroundings (rules number one - be aware of the motor boats 🚤) because snakes like to crawl up the trees and catch sun on the branches. And we are talking not just the harmless rat snakes but venomous cottonmouth as well. You don’t want a cottonmouth fall on your neck, so stay away from the branches. I’ve heard stories from people on the bayou how people got bit by cottonmouths hanging from the branches. I don’t know how much true is that but I’m taking precautions. Cottonmouths are chunky and have shorter bodies than the rat snakes or water snakes, so crawling up a tree like that would be a stretch for a cottonmouth. They can float though. Their chunky body is perfect for that. They roll into a poop- shaped position with their heads sticking in the middle and stay afloat. Anyway. Doesn’t this tree give Conjuring movie vibes?
