The boro-patched, sashiko-reinforced denim skirt is ready for wearing at next week’s trade show. #seeyouathha24 🌈. . 8th finish of 2024. Thanks to @punkfrockers for the hashtag inspiration to pull this old item out for #pfmending last August. Used Daruma and Yokota sashiko threads, and patches of assorted Japanese fabric swatches from #dayjob Broke 1 hand needle along the way 😳 but I was very happy with the performance of my Japanese sashiko needles in this heavy-duty sewing adventure. 🌈. . #ssqprojectdone #sashikomending #visiblemending #sashiko #boro #boromending #projectdone2024 #projectdone #darumasashiko #darumathread #yokotathread #tulipsashikoneedle #hhamericasprep #denimmending #menditdontendit #lovedclotheslast #sewover50 #asgatlanta #americansewingguild #so50skirts #so50sustainablesewing #so50sustainable #hitomezashi #hitomezashisashiko #seigaiha #kakinohana

Projects from 2023: jeans skirt with boro and sashiko. Still needs more holes and thin spots patched, but has progressed to the point I can wear it again. 🌈. . Inspired to pull this out of the mending black hole by Beverly and Jenny’s #punkfrockerspod hashtag #pfmending over the summer. For which I am most thankful. 🌈. . #punkfrockers #sashiko #boro #jeansmending #visiblemending #sashikoondenim #denimstyle #sewqueer

Happy happy happy. 🌈. . I was inspired by last month’s #pfmending to again work on this oh-so-holey denim skirt. Finally got the hang of drafting my own #shippotsunagi sashiko pattern—morphing it into a clamshell/seigaiha bit. So fancy. But also: the sashiko stitches are securing a backing fabric to this very threadbare section of the denim. 🌈. . Thank you @punkfrockers for a hashtag that got me back to working on a lengthy mend. 🌈. . #mendsday #sashikomending #sewqueer #mending #denimreinforcement #denimmending #denimrepair

This is a rare #visiblemending job to restore my dad's beloved (ancient!) boiler suit that he does all his DIY and gardening in. It's taken decades of abuse and finally the knee gave out. This was my first time trying this method....I combined a couple of techniques of read about, honestly not sure if that was the best thing to do but time will tell! The process: I prepped a patch of similar type and weight fabric by cutting a square several inches larger than the damaged areas and machine hemming it. I used chalk to mark out the centre of the repair, the edges of the damage, and a half inch allowance to turn under the hole edges from the front. I basted the patch in place wrong sides together and centered it by marking its centre and aligning it with the cross I'd made on the outer garment. I then trimmed the hole into a neat rectangle, clipped the corners and turned under. I did a applique stitch round the edges of the hole and then three boxes of stitches around the hole to the edge of the patch beneath for added strength. Pretty pleased how this turned out, took a lot of careful handstitching but found it surprisingly enjoyable. Any menders out there with tips to share I'd love to hear from you....is this method the best one to have used or any better suggestions for next time? #sewsustainable #mendingmatters

It's the last day of August, so the last day of #pfmending from @punkfrockers ... and I used the deadline to force myself to finish fixing this dress! The first pic (side by side) shows my first edit. I took off the bodice, which I never found comfortable (or very nice - plus it was too hot for the summer), and used the pattern for the #celestiadress bodice. Rather that using the drawstring mechanism that the celestia dress has for tightening the back (which never stays tight), I added shirring. However, I did not like the fit of the bust. So, if you scroll and watch the video, you will see how I took off the front of the skirt again, and added bust darts. Yes, they are a bit pointy ;). But I think the fit is better and I feel a lot more comfortable. I also lengthened the skirt. I still don't love the colours of this dress, but it represents many hours of labour piecing the skirt, so I wanted to make it wearable! @lowwastesewing #imakemyownclothes #torontosews #punkfrockers

Fixing straps on a lined #axistank. I repurposed the mesh lining from a swim top that didn't work out, which is why they're so narrow. It fits beautifully and the lining makes it supportive and gives a luxurious feeling. No bra needed! #pfmending

For this month’s @punkfrockers challenge #pfmending I slimmed down this $7 shirt @citytype found that was the wrong size. I have done this skirt construction so far apart in time and somewhat in the fly that I’m shaking my head at myself. In hindsight for a cless as n finish the lace should have gone in with the hem but 1. I was short 4m and need to see if I couid get more. 2. Hadn’t decided where I wanted it. And 3. Once I decided I wanted to get something done while waiting for the point in time where I could look for lace. So I sewed the ruffle in having chosen a position at the hem. Then started adding the lace afterwards. I started handsewing with white so it wouldn’t show in the lace but too many spots showed up on the skirt so after half a meter I pulled it out and started I et in black. With what turns out was probably a pretty dull needle. Traded up and am now roughly 4m into 9 I have to get through. If I’d finished this instead of abandoning it I would need to be #pfmending my relationship with it by finishing it and I’d have never thought of this lace and I’d be done and have worn it by now. But I’m committed to the lace and hand sewing will look better than a second row of stitching on the hem so onwards…. #tamworthvetsews

Rooster wrap skirt progress for my #pfmending my relationship with past abandoned makes project. Past me was pretty sure they’d got the ruffle length right. But turns out it was too short. What to do??? Cut the CB ruffle complete with French seam out, unpick the hem on either side of the cut, splice in an extra meter that was sort of eyeballed for length and torn at a good guesstimate for height and use more French seams for the joins. #tamworthvetsews

My morning appointment was cancelled, so I had a few minutes to mend one of my favorite pandemic makes! I have a bunch of shirts and shirt dresses that need to have the collar tacked down. I am good at following instructions, and when I returned to sewing during the pandemic, it didn’t occur to me to add steps that would make my clothes more comfortable! I also avoid #mending, so have been fiddling with collars for years. Thank you, @punkfrockers for the #pfmending challenge. I have a small stack of a few more collar facings that I plan to tack down over the weekend. #punkfrockers #sewover40 #genxsewing

Continuing a few more days of #pfmending my relationship with past abandoned makes. This is my process of how I try to work through the decisions on design choices. I’ve gotten it into my head that if I can find more of this lace I’d like to use it on this skirt. It’s a hack of @cashmerette_12to32 club pattern the #gilmoreskirt of which I’ve not made a regular one yet. Lol. I’ve sketched out what it might look like with and without the lace and with the lace in two spots. Between the ruffle and main skirt and at the edge of the ruffle. Finding mystlf surprised by which way I’m leaning but then not at the same time because it was my original thought but then I thought I might like it the other way better instead to try and break up all those chickens. Which way do you think I’m leaning? Also this is the paralysis that can lead me to abandon something. @gilliancrafts I’m continuing your #sewingdare onto this skirt. #tamworthvetsews

8/22/2023, 3:56:14 PM

Here’s some #pfmending mending. I tore the pocket on this dress and fixed it once then ripped it worse 12 hours later. I back patched it then got distracted by my sundress but this morning I finished. I put a pattern match patch on thé join of the pocket and felled around it thén pick stitched back and forth across it to meld the back patch, fabric and front patch together. Fingers crossed. I already caught it on something today when I wire it for the first time again. Sigh. I don’t want yo have to sew these closed. #tamworthvetmends

It’s finished!!!! My #sewingdare by @gilliancrafts which inspired my #pfmending project for @punkfrockers to mend my relationship with past abandoned makes. Self drafted. I adore it. I may have made my ultimate sundress now. It will be hard for any new ones to live up to how this one makes me feel! Labels…. High on sewjo from katm and my own. Perfectly Imperfect is how a good friend has described me for years so I made it my personal label. #tamworthvetsews

I finally got around to shortening my son’s pants by 3” using a method that keeps the original hem. #pfmending Refashioning can be considered mending right? Making something that you might actually wear out of something that's just been hanging around your closet. If you scroll to the 3rd photo you'll see that this was a refashion of a refashion that I did about 10 years ago. The black dress didn't really do it for me. I got duct tape and spray bleach and my scissors. The length difference was a bit more drastic that I intended and I couldn't get the neckline right since it started out having so much extra fabric. The skully tank was a favorite but it got a bit snug and I just hadn't worn it lately. I cut the front part of the dress off and attached the front of the tank. Made the back straps criss cross. I trimmed some length off the back of the skirt and sewed it to the front hem. The back of the tank was "lace" skulls and I used that under the arm/sideboob area lol. The orange pockets are left over scraps from another old Halloween shirt and bits from the tank :) #wowicangetcraftytoo #upcycling #upcycle #upcyclefashion #refashioned #weekendsewing #sewing

#pfMending The back belt loop had been falling off my husband's jeans since he got them apparently, but it's now been sewn back on. I am now inspired to mend the hem on one of my shirts since the machine is already threaded with navy but the remains of the old hem are proving difficult to rip out so we'll see if I have the patience to finish that before I get bored and do something more fun 🙃

8/19/2023, 9:43:29 PM

One of the major hang ups in finishing this skirt was pockets. I wanted to want to wear this skirt and without pockets they annoy me. But a wrap circle skirt with pockets results in horribly gaping pockets. So I needed to come up with another option. Which was patch pockets. Which meant I wanted to pattern match. And it was just a lot. The pieces I needed to match would need to be pieced as well. So I put it in a box. And thought of it often but just couldn’t get myself geared up to do it. Enter @gilliancrafts and their #sewingdare which spread to this skirt. Combined with @punkfrockers #pfmending challenge. The pickets on this required patching and pattern patching fabric together. Today I dug it out of its purgatory and French seamed the ruffle seams and skirt seams and the drafted some oddly shaped pork chops and pattern matched them to the skirt. It’s all a gamble. They may be in an ideal location but we’ll see I guess. Skirt is even in my closet hanging BEFORE I add the ruffle. Now I feel like I want eyelet lace. I have some but I’m short about 4m. Will see if there is anything I can find to match it. #tamworthvetsews

So since @gilliancrafts set the inner sewing river free I’m onto the next thing. (Blue dress will be revisited…. I need to do some figuring out on it.). But this skirt was also abandoned possibly longer ago than these sundresses. So many times I’ve wanted to wear this skirt. It’s going to happen by next weekend I hope. But just how many meters of ruffle do you think I managed to fit behind my machine as I hemmed it???? Continuing the quest at #pfmending relationships with past abandoned makes.

8/19/2023, 5:57:01 PM

Rouleau cord made??? Bow made from it? Check and check. Using @kennethdking adjustable zipper foot to make it??? Check check check!!! I have learned so much from @kennethdking including his tips on how to use your hands to turn cording. Which are strangely similar to the advice I got 28 years ago from an old school vet about how to check a dog’s cranial drawer sign for evidence of is ruptured cruciale ligament. This cording turned into a bow is the next to final touch on my #pfmending quest to complete my abandoned sundress. Last task is to use up the last of the cording for belt loops and swipe to see it finished. JK. Not trying it on yet! That’s for tomorrow. No r of this would have been made possible without @punkfrockers and a #sewingdare from @gilliancrafts #tamworthvetsews

8/19/2023, 5:48:28 PM

#pfmending is the theme for @punkfrockers this month, and that means not just mending but taking things you have and making them better or more wearable. I made this #pinnacletop a while back with Brussels washer linen that I painted myself, and I just don't like wearing white or off-white. Since I have been trying to expand the colours that I wear, I thought I would try dyeing it bright pink! I like it much better. Plus now I match half of my 5-year-old daughter's clothing ;) #imakemyownclothes #torontosews #lowwastesewing

8/19/2023, 3:31:19 AM

Here’s where it becomes obvious that I am terrible at flat lays. Lolol. M’y #pfmending my relationship with this abandoned dress project is nearly finished. Thread chains for the belt, a string to sew to make a ribbon bow with and then deciding if I finish the seams on the skirt or if I move on to the next thing. Heavily leaning into moving on. Lol. #tamworthvetsews

8/18/2023, 9:44:56 PM

Working on my #pfmending challenge for the month. Made this #closetcorefaye and used their elastic measurements instead of doing it my usual way. Too loose and baggy. Now I unpick and fix. Also why didn’t I try it on before turning and sewing it under🤷🏻‍♀️

8/18/2023, 5:07:32 AM

Of course I’d sew down the ruffle when sewing on my straps!!!! But if #pfmending mending on my #pfmending project spurred on by a #sewingdare from @gilliancrafts

Pleating the CF of the bodice to create a sweetheart shaped neckline on this sundress make I’m #pfmending my relationship with after abandoning it a year ago. #tamworthvetsews Thanks for the #sewingdare @gilliancrafts

8/17/2023, 9:29:26 PM

Can you spot what’s missing??? Sewing this seam had me alternating between watching the midway point between the two rows of if basting and the seam guide. Not only am I #pfmending my relationship with past abandoned makes but I had to mend my machine too #tamworthvetsews

8/17/2023, 6:48:13 PM

Both tiers sewn together and basting stitched removed. This is fun when I remember to lower my tension. #pfmending my relationship with past abandoned makes continues.

8/17/2023, 6:45:28 PM

Pinning flouf and out of pins. Only halfway there on this tier. I got a #sewingdare from @gilliancrafts which prompted me to do sone #pfmending of my relationship with past abandoned makes. Specifically to get one of two sundresses I abandoned last year finished. With the caveat that I could re-abandon if I stopped having fun. So far still having fun! #tamworthvetsews #tamworthvetmends

8/17/2023, 6:43:33 PM

Can I get the skirt I want with the fabric I have??? I okay this game slightly differently each time. Sone times I just cut and go for it. Other times I measure what I have and see if I can have what I’m hoping. I measured this time because I’m #pfmending my relationship with a pair of sundresses I abandoned about a year ago. This is the second one but it seems likely to be finished first sone I have black thread going and the other dress is blue. And I hate switching threads. @gilliancrafts #sewingdare ‘d me to finish one by the end of August and I’m going to do my best. But making sure I could finish how I wanted seemed key to not getting frustrated and re-abandoning this dress. So I measured and calculated. Swipe to see my options and guess which one I’m making. #tamworthvetsews #tamworthvetmends

8/17/2023, 6:06:28 PM

I often have a long slightly convoluted path to decision making about my makes. Especially if there are style options. And the tiered skirt on this #sewingdare from @gilliancrafts where I’m #pfmending my relationship with a pair of sundresses I abandoned partially finished about a year ago offered lots of grist for the mill. What did I want??? Out came the pen and scrap of paper to produce the smallest sketch. Then I made a few bigger ones more to scale. Swipe to see. Guess which one I chose??? #tamworthvetmends #tamworthvetsews

8/17/2023, 6:06:16 PM

I don't know if this counts as a mend, but it definitely counts as making something better. I've been using this Welly bandaid tin for my English Paper Piecing kit for a while now, but the metal tools inside go clunk and so I can hear it rattling around in my purse. So I took some scraps from my hexi quilt and quilted them up and bound them to fit the tin. On the lid I quilted a little magnet into one hexi to hold my needle and I stuck it to the lid with double sided tape. It dampens down the sounds of the tin, makes it prettier, gives me a spot for my needle, and it pads the tools. Perfect. And what can I fit in this small tin? Well right now I have scissors, thread, thread conditioner, a needle threader, a clip, thimble, my folded pattern, and 16 triangles ready to stitch together. #pfmending @punkfrockers #englishpaperpiecing #epp #handsewing

8/17/2023, 12:51:07 AM

My original goal for this dress was a shirred top with a sweetheart neckline. Which was why I tried shaping it initially and then adding curved panel seams and shirring the whole thing. Lost all the shape at the top and then had to take out the shaping in the panel seams because it ended up at the wrong place. Oh well. So here is my second attempt. Gathering CF by hand. I’ll sew it to something solid once I’m final on the shaping. Thanks @gilliancrafts for the #sewingdare that prompted me to use @punkfrockers #pfmending challenge as a way to mend my relationship with abandoned projects. #tamworthvetmends #tamworthvetsews. I don’t feel as unhappy as I look. Lol. It’s all working out. And sometimes a crooked line is more fun than a straight one. You certainly learn more that way!

8/15/2023, 11:25:03 PM

Turns out that you CAN sew over fabric mountains and shir them. Working through #pfmending my relationship with two sundresses I abandoned last summer for @punkfrockers August challenge. The thing is…. It didn’t get me anything. I should have just shirred higher I. The front then the back and called it good. I had to sew out these little elastic mountains as darts because the wound up in the wrong place. Live and learn. Very glad for the #sewindare @gilliancrafts #tamworthvetsews #tamworthvetmends

8/15/2023, 9:10:43 PM

Because I’m a somewhat chronic flitter…. here is another of my abandoned sundresses I’ve pulled out thanks @craftingarainbow #sewingdare! @punkfrockers theme thisAugust is #pfmending and after @craftingarainbow dated me I got thinking about mending my tendency to abandon some projects when I hit a snag, get past the season, change size, think of something new to make. Hoping to finish this dress by Sunday to wear out for Hugh yeah at @oopsadaisyflowerfarm The question here is can you shir over fabric mountains. This could turn into a huge sewing learning success. I made a shaped bust and the made it wide with the intention of shirring the entire top so that the waist was level. To see if you could. Then I got tired of shirring after 10 rounds and took a year break. What do you think? Can twin fabric mountains be successfully shirred??? Stay tuned. #tamworthvetmends #tamwortvetsews

8/15/2023, 1:37:52 PM

This frothy dress is getting finished courtesy or @craftingarainbow and their #sewingdare and @punkfrockers #pfmending. Ali g with mending mending I’m mending my relationship with abandoned projects by trying to finish some. But here I’m mending mending this seam where I’m sewing gathered froth a straight edge. I always get spots where the straight edge folds under and gets sewn in the seam. Or a tuck appears. Sometimes I leave it and move in because time…. This time I found them all picked them out and resewed the spots BEFORE I took out the basting. My more classic move is spotting the AFTER. #tamworthvetmends #tamworthvetsews

8/14/2023, 10:48:56 PM

Today I had a bit of a fashion mishap. On my way to work I noticed a small tear in the front of my jeans by the belt loop...when I got to work my friend was walking behind me and said "oh no. I can see your whole butt" 😆😭 These jeans are my favorite pair, but they've always been just a little bit snug and without much stretch... I've already had this same tear happen on the left butt pocket.. I should take it as a sign but No! I will not. With both sides I pulled a bit on the tear while stitching them up so as to give my ass more room 🤣 the right side is messier but I feel confident in it's structural stability. I am also quite pleased with the little heart patch on the front. 🖤 #wowicangetcraftytoo #pfmending #freemotionsewing #visiblemending #repairnotreplace

True #pfmending today. But of the puppet. A guest came over who wasn’t as gentle as could be hoped and when he bit something one of Foxy’s teeth fell out. 104 i think. Lol. But then the dentition is different than I’m used to so I could just make up numbers too. Anyways… his right arm also came off (he’s designed for that to happen for wardrobe changes if needed.) All was good but he needed to be rethreaded because his shoulder joint came if the arm strings. Then that threads through his exposed clavicle and gets tied inside his body. Bam. Fixed!!! Then he made an appearance at the local cafe because his puppeteer wanted to show him off. #tamworthvetmends

💖This dress has a special place in my heart and wardrobe. 🎥 I bought it in college, when I was anchoring my university’s tv news program, @naztoday_ and paired it with a black blazer. 💖Since then, the dress has seen me through reporting on the North Coast of California and running 4 am live shots in North Florida. 🎥This dress has seen me through career changes— from journalism to marketing to non-profit work to journalism again. 💖This dress has seen me through weight gain and body changes and major moves. This dress has worn thin and shrunk in the wash and lost a button. 🎥This dress has been on tv paired with heels, worn under sweaters and over tights, paired with boots and sweaters and sneakers and sun hats. 💖And this week this dress made its way out of the mending pile and back into my wardrobe, where it is cherished, thanks to inspiration from @punkfrockers. #pfmending #ithasanewbutton #mendingmatters #sewingismagic

💖I did do some actually mending for the #pfmending challenge too! 💖While my husband was doing mechanic things, I sat outside with him and stitched a button back on one of my favorite #rtw garments. 💖I love that in replacing the missing button I had the opportunity to choose a prettier/more unique one than the dress featured to begin with. 💖I also love having my powder pink knit dress back in rotation! #pfmending #sewingbuttons #readytowearrepair #mendy #getmendywithit #mendingmatters #mending #heartshapedbuttons #iheartsewing #arizonasews

How much froth is enough froth??? I’m hoping this hits the sweet spot. But I can’t remember exactly the length of this froth that is going to be the hemline for this make which I was prompted to finish by @craftingarainbow #sewingdare. Part of @punkfrockers #pfmending for me this August is to mend my relationship with my past abandoned and neglected makes by trying to finish them. So I’m giving it a go with this one. #tamworthvetmends #tamworthvetsews

When you run out of pins you must sew on the froth to get you pins back to do other things right??? Temptation was to stop with the pinning and work on something else. But in my #pfmending effort to mend my relationship with unfinished makes i am seeing this seam. Firstly to advance its construction and secondly because I can’t actually do anythingvejse till I get my pins back. Thanks or the #sewingdare @craftingarainbow. Feels like I have arrived! #tamworthvetmends #tamworthvetsews

I finally started mending socks! My sock rotation dwindled towards the end of winter, but my mending pile kept getting bigger. I'm trying to use TV time in the summer to start mending socks. I used embroidery floss for this thin sock, I'm unsure what they're made of, as I've had them for a few years. This also somehow is perfectly timed for #pfMending I've been listening to @PunkFrockers for some time, but haven't managed to make a timely post until now (even with a full month deadline). [ID: 1- A fully mended light pink sock on a held darning mushroom. 2- Partway through the mending process, you can see horizontal threads all through the hole and the stitched outline of the hole. 3- Before the mending process and the hole to be mended. ] • • • • • #AModestFlourish #AMF #MillenialSewing #Handmade #BrotherSE600 #JukiMO2000QVP #Sewing #Mend #Mending #SockMending

Go past me for the French seams on the frothy ruffle! Working on this #sewingdare from @craftingarainbow in my quest in #pfmending my relationship with past abandoned projects. Will say more later about why this was put aside but part was because it was past the season to wear it. Also go past me for leaving the lining portion of the upper skirt this froth is being stitched to free so I can either leave it free and hem it or decide to fell it down to the froth / skirt seam to finish that seam. #tamworthvetmends #tamworthvetsews

Swipe for my motivation to give this dress a good go at fixing it. Truly I chose the wrong pattern. @jaquelinecieslak and @madebyrae used the same fabric as mine and kicked butt. @punkfrockers suggested for #pfmending to try and give new life to an old make you aren’t happy with. Which is what Ive been thinking about since this unfortunate incident. Also given part of my plan this month for #pfmending was to go find abandoned to give some love to Im going to consider my options for this one. Perhaps patch pockets could help??? Altering that top to fit me more to my liking??? Making it a two piece set??? Using my scraps to appliqué on if needed to alter the colour scheme??? Using the large scrap to make a crop top to go with this turned into a skirt??? This top with an elastic waistband???? The bottom changed into a skirt with the intended ruffle added by taking it apart and adding darts and a waistband??? So many options here. Surely I can hit on the one for me? #tamworthvetmends #tamworthvetsews

As part of @punkfrockers August theme of #pfmending I am trying to mend my tendency to abandon projects that are sort of close to completion but that are stumping me or that need alterations to finish them because I’ve changed sizes. This mess of fabric is one such project. I was #sewingdared by @craftingarainbow to complete one of my abandoned sundress projects that didn’t get done during the season it was intended for. So here I go…. #tamworthvetmends #tamworthvetsews

Learned a very cool new technique this morning for sewing on buttons. Which helped with one of my #pfmending goals for @punkfrockers August theme. I want to try to mend my relationship with the abandoned nearly done projects lying around. This technique posted by @istomina_patterns certainly made seeing 10 buttons on this morning much less onerous. It’s basically how I already do it but with a clever twist at the beginning that makes it almost without frustration!!! This would be day 7/31 mending this month. My goal is to do something for every day. We’ll see how far I get. Don’t hold your breath. Lol. #tamworthvetmends #tamworthvetsews

A bit of fun with some purple dye on the weekend - I wasn't really reaching for either of these shirts much - the floral felt white and black rather than black and white, and the beige of the bonnets was a bit drab. So I threw them both in a dye bath with Rit eggplant and they've turned out very nicely. Slightly different colours which is good too! Ironically I'm pretty sure the bonnets fabric came in a similar colorway but they didn't have it in store at my local @wearethefabricstore when I bought it. #pfmending #sewwhatyoulike #riteggplant #sewyourownclothes

#pfmending yes I actually mended something. Takes longer than it should. Fly will be hidden during wear anyway. #mend #mending #repair

#pfmending #repair #reuse #mend #mending Is it just me or is mending a trigger word? It brings up feelings of being taken for granted and a serious lack of being appreciated. It definitely needs to pay more if you are doing it and you aren’t enjoying yourself

I will be sewing shirts today too, but first I did a little mending - the straps on the @paradisepatterns Sommar Camisole are a little long for me so I just folded them down to the body and stitched them in place. I did this on my pink one a while ago and it solved the straps slipping which is a pet peeve of mine. I hate having to adjust a garment while I'm going about my day. #pfmending #sommarcamisole

Inspired by #PFMending (and my husbands not so subtle hint of leaving his lunch bag on top of my machine so I don't forget to follow through on my promise) - tonight I have undertaken some practical mending. My husbands lunch bag had developed a hole in the PVC lining on the stitch line at the top, and a small one at the bottom. I had picked up a book bag for my daughter for school second hand but one of the seams had started to become unstitched and it just needed a little reinforcement. Both these fixes were quick and easy, I undertook both on the machine with a zigzag sitch. It's not the prettiest but definitely functional. I wouldn't say this kind of sewing particularly brings me joy, however this is outweighed by the benefits of returning the item to use. My husband really enjoys using his me-made lunch bag, and we have definitely saved money picking up a secondhand book bag - this little repair means the bag should last us the 2 years my daughter needs to use one for when she starts school. #SewMending #SewingMending

This one broke my heart when it happens. This is the center V of my favorite Kerose top from #cashmerette I reinforced it this with a buttonhole stitch to keep it from ripping again, OR getting better. To the average person, they won’t notice the difference. #pfmending

On this several year old Kona cotton #lenoxshirtdress I patched the split in the fabric by ironing in a small patch of lightweight interfacing on the back side and then zig zagged around it. #pfmending

Here are my patched jeans. The first pair, the button loops had torn free. I placed the loops where they belonged, then used adhesive patches — I don’t have time or space to keep denim for patching — on the inside. Melted it with a hot iron, and then used a chunk of wood to weigh it down as it cooled. Then I zig-zagged across it. On the second pair — there was a rip along the pocket. I used my trusty adhesive patches and then zig zagged over the weak spot to reinforce. #pfmending

Before and after mending a hole in a hand-knit scarf. This was essentially catching the stitches and then I used a duplicate stitch to fill it in. Not totally invisible, but will still keep people warm this winter #pfmending

8/4/2023, 6:20:21 PM

Mount mending is tackled! There were a variety of techniques used — including picking up dropped hand knit stitches, duplicate stitch, buttons sewn on, reinforcing pop stitches in seams and traditional patching. #pfmending

Best #pfmending ever…. Though hmmm @punkfrockers theme this month is mending. I really SHOIKD mend that black skirt I keep wanting to wear. Got it out and… swipe to see. I’d mended it already and forgotten. Lol. I put an exposed lace zip with a colourful underlay behind the lace zip tape. The original injury was a split zip. I do believe I mended this for @visiblemend #mendmarch but in 2022. Lolol. The number of times I e thought I wish that zip was fixed on that black skirt! Sigh. But it’s fixed and it was sooooo easy!!!! #tamworthvetmends

I swear this was not meant to be a saga in response to @punkfrockers #pfmending theme for August. I mean I had lots of ideas about what else I could do. But I don’t intend to mend this dress twice in two days. This morning I caught the pocket AGAIN. But this time instead of breaking the thread it ripped the fabric I stead of the double thread mend I thought I’d been so smart about yesterday. I’m going to start with a back patch to reinforce the area and then go from there. Stay tuned. @visiblemend look at this cool challenge!!! #tamworthvetsews

@punkfrockers August theme is #pfmending And yesterday I did a mend on the pocket of those dress. I thought I’d caught it but I looked and everything seemed ok. Turns out it wasn’t. When I drafted this I made the pocket opening too wide so closed it up by slip stitching it closed to the width I wanted. That let go on one pocket so I sewed it back up on my body. With a double length of thread this time. #tamworthvetsews

A quick clothing alteration this afternoon. A week or two ago my husband told me he had left me a shirt in the sewing room and told me to do with it what I wanted. He sometimes does this with clothes he's worn out, and I harvest buttons etc. from them. But this shirt looked in great condition. Before I dropped it in at the charity shop, I did a bit of quizzing- I determined that the shirt still fit, he liked the colour and pattern but he didn't like wearing it. The shirt was a bit short to wear comfortably tucked in, but was fine untucked and the cuffs of the sleeves didn't work well under a jumper. I knew this wasn't necessarily the end for this shirt - one thing he doesn't have many of is short sleeved shirts and he could benefit from having another. He works in an air conditioned office, it's often cool in the winter months and comfortable in the height of summer, but the days in between when it's cold out first thing but by lunchtime it's glorious - the Aircon system struggles with. He needs work wear that he can layer and adjust depending on the temperature. So this afternoon, I lopped the bottom half of the sleeves off and shortened them. I finished them with a double fold hem and a decorative stitch. And I have a happy husband too. #clothingRefashion #ClothingAlterations #pfmending

Finished just intime for the end of the challenge #ReFebulous organised by @madebyliesl The point of the challenge is to refashion, repaired or reuse a garment in February. I'm not really one who maintains a work in progress or a mending pile - I don't like to have unfinished work hanging around. However this pair of my husbands jeans has hung around for longer than I would have liked - mainly because I had no idea how I wanted to mend them. He had given me full creative freedom, eventually I chose a Pac Man inspired cross stitch mend. I had hoped that cross stitch style would give a 8 bit vibe while also providing the coverage and strength required for the repair. I have added a layer of scrap Jersey in under the hole. The finished design is little bigger than I originally intended but it was the size required to cover the hole. I'm pleased to report my husband loves the look of his repaired jeans. #refebulous2023 #SewingMending #SewingPacMan #pacmanembroidery #MendingJeans #VisableMending #pfmending
