What a fun and inspiring event celebrating the @goodwillnynj Evening of Treasures! It is an annual tradition celebrating the Power of Work and Sustainable Fashion. It can’t be stressed enough how incredibly inspiring this event is as well as the amazing work that Goodwill NYNJ has done and continues to do each and every day. Last night over $80,000 was raised in minutes to support Goodwill’s training and job placement programs for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment. This will go a long way to helping these individuals gain independence through the power of work. In a room filled with people from all different professions, backgrounds and industries, it’s beautiful to see everyone come together, bringing a common passion of helping others and making an impact in the local community. In addition, Goodwill’s initiative of sustainable fashion, upcycling/repurposing of clothing and donation centers is positively impacting the environment in an immense and powerful way. About 40 million pounds of clothing is repurposed each year, which would otherwise end up in landfills polluting the environment. That equates to saving nearly 59,000 metric tons of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere. A big shout out to the host June Ambrose, Goodwill NYNJ CEO Katy Gaul-Stigge, all of the designers and models, honoree David Coquillette and all those in attendence who brought great energy and positivity while raising a significant amount of money to help make a difference.
