I am back from a much-needed break from the day-to-day visiting family in the motherland (Greece) and I just want to report back to you that while my Greek language skills are passable, they are also absolutely atrocious for someone who grew up speaking it and who also still understands it. Oof. I got by though, got us through the tiny towns in Lakonia where very few people speak English. It was a good break. A great break. And I am even more appreciative of my little home in East Van now that I am back. As we are approaching fall I want you to ask yourself if you have a reason - something upcoming that you want to celebrate? Celebrate yourself? Celebrate a milestone? Celebrate a birthday? Almost 10 years ago this image was capture..Amara’s very first swimming lesson. I’m posting it for two reasons 1)The importance of investing time and money in swimming lessons. Period. This is a life lesson that’s worth every penny in my opinion. Btw- there is lessons still available during covid , limited but happening. Side note- if your not familiar with the term dry drowning, Google it and learn how this kills people on land. It can happen to young children and adults as well. 2) The feeling this image gives me as the mother. I have a mix of “omg she’s so little” and I’m so proud of her little self trusting in the process... it took many years of lessons but she’s a great STRONG swimmer. ❤️ This flash in time, so easily looked over and missed but in my kids lives swimming was a big component. I’m grateful to have documented it. There’s a huge place for documentary photography. It’s the everyday life moments, milestones or the ordinary that later on becomes the extraordinary. This session is different than a standard ( in my case it’s called a life unscripted) photography session).It’s a shadow in your life’s documentary everything as is. The session is usually called” a day in the life” session. Look for it from your favourite photogs.
