I danced with what my family could find and who can help us. My heart and spirit just wanted to dance so bad. I remember I would dance every single intertribal.. literally EVERY single one LOL I met a lot of life long friends during this time as well. Mariah Dumont is a Dené Suiline/Cree woman residing in Edmonton whose roots are with the Cold Lake First Nations. Mariah is a powwow dancer and instructor who has been dancing since she was three years old. Mariah is passionate about her culture and ensuring that those who have been displaced or disconnected are able to find connection and belonging within the dancing community. Mariah is the co-founder of Kokums Kloset which is a free program that offers children, youth and adults access to regalia to participate in powwows ensuring that Indigenous people are fully able to experience powwow. I got to spend Valentine's Day doing something I love. Tonight my indigenous history class took us to pow wow practice where we got to dance and get lost with the beat of the drum. I actually became overwhelmed with emotion as soon as the drum started to play. I wept with joy while watching the beautiful colors of the regalia sweep around me as they danced. I guess I can listen to it, I guess I had this image of dancing at Red Rocks because of all the performers I have seen in my lifetime and I want to be one of them lol even no audience lol. I know my videos don't go far but I wish elders and kiddies, as well as the people who are ill, and those who do see this, get some sort of positivity, prayer and healing. I think also as I listen to my heart, some prayers goes to the medical staff. They are tired and fatigue.
