The postpartum season has not been for the weak 😅 9 months pregnant to a year and a half postpartum. And yes, I'm still calling myself postpartum. The end of my pregnancy was not easy in the slightest. Severe pre eclampsia -> bedrest. And when I tell you I swelled up like a balloon that is no sarcasm. I was active my entire pregnancy up until the bedrest point & still with all my complications and everything going on I put on 55 pounds 😅 and then with complications freshly postpartum it was hard to get back into a fitness groove again. I definitely was sucked into the "bounce back" culture and thought once I delivered things would be right back easy and I would lose weight like nothing and for me that was not the case. I still a year and a half later have about 6 pounds to go before hitting my pre pregnancy weight. 🤷🏻‍♀️ and I'm here to say that "bounce back" culture is bullshit because it's HARD. My postpartum wellness journey has been completely possible because I've had the resources to do it completely at home. From the programs to the accountability I wouldn't be where I'm at so far! Before the finisher, then after 🤣 I opted for upper body today because I tweaked my back last week on the lower body workout. I found a beautiful restorative "pose" that has basically fixed me, but I still want to give it a few more days before putting any stress on that low back again. I thoroughly enjoyed the programming today and only had to modify one exercise in the second block and then the finisher of course because I'm not up to a 2 minute plank yet 😳 Anywho, very rude of you @daniellepascente . Then you go for a walk with your girlfriend, nice and quiet on the way. Car parked in a very full parking lot at the sports park in Winsum. We were the only ones From there we walked towards Schaphalsterzijl to get on the riding deep ferry to Aduarderzijl. We were the only passengers here as well. I really enjoyed recognizing famous places from the water (Reitdiep). In Aduarderzijl at Restpunt had coffee with cake. Brigitte saw 2 extra walking buddies to join us. Via Feerwerd, looked into the church there, then a rest point, Medenerweg to turn left the bike path to Aduarderdiep, crossed it over the bridge to Wetsingersluis. The Alinker didn't fit over it, and neither did a tricycle! Who came up with this . Drank coffee at Margriethoeve where we were scolded by a lazy cat. At the lock we were already greeted by a red cat wandering around. I see this all the time, from the athletes that I treat to those who do not compete in athletic competitions but are still active individuals. The point is this, building fitness on top of a crumbling foundation will only result in injury! It really becomes a matter of "when" versus "if." The stabilizing muscles of your spinal column need to be able to respond quickly during active movements. When they don't, larger muscle groups (i.e.: erector spinae, trapezius, latissimus dorsi, etc.) have to suddenly work to support and stabilize the spine as well as do their own function, which is to create movement. So, how do you know if your spinal stabilizing muscles are firing when they should be and working? Does "warrior mama" mean worn out and in need of a haircut? I know the mug was a gift, from one cancer mom to another. Though there's truth in the fact that all moms are warriors, regardless of their child's health. And as we are hopefully forever on the other side of it, I feel like as parents, Zach and I are in the trenches more now. 4 is a tough age. Emlyn has been defiant beyond words some days. She has to share her mommy and daddy. She loves Fiona but is annoyed that she needs to be so gentle, because her love is BIG and aggressive at times. I've felt like a horrific mama lately, like we must be doing everything all wrong. But we keep showing up. Keep showing love. And showing up, for me, also means consistency with movement. It's the one thing that provides a little dose of sanity, at least for a little bit. A tough workout forces me to focus within and work through things. Today's lower body workout for #SummerPregame was spiiiiiiicyyyy and I needed it. I'm so grateful for the routines that leave it all on the floor at the end. Even if @daniellepascente is RUDE with 2-minute finisher exercises. Followed that with some postnatal core and reminded myself that healing takes a long time. I've been questioning everything recently, am determined to keep trying to get stronger both physically and mentally. Happy Monday, friends.

🤰🏼Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week 🤰🏼 I want to share a little bit more about me, my family & how I ended up where I am today - and hopefully raise a little awareness about maternal mental health & how movement might be able to help. So let’s start at (almost) the beginning … These photos show moments I realised that movement (however it looked) was instrumental in maintaining a balanced mental state, ensuring I was the best version of myself AND that it allowed me to rediscover who I was. I was fortunate to fall pregnant with my boys easily (maybe even a little too easily the second time around - there’s just over 14months the between them 😳) but after having them I struggled. I lost sense of who I was, I couldn’t understand how I’d ended up in the situation I was in and I used to walk the dog for hours as it was one of the only times the boys would be quiet and settled. I vividly remember walking one of our regular loops and sobbing the whole way round … Then I discovered yoga. This first photo was around the time I started going to class weekly with my best friend. We used to go every Wednesday evening and it felt like the only time I had to myself. I fell in love with the movement, the breathing, the quiet, the relaxation … everything really 😂 As time passed I began to rediscover myself (slowly) and began to really relish the opportunity to move, however it looked! Running was slow but I was happy - happy to be outside, happy to be moving, happy to be on my own for a little while and eventually brave enough to enter some races! Gradually I grew in confidence, my mental health stabilised and I began to understand how key movement was in this. Then the opportunity arose for me to train as a yoga teacher … and I threw myself into it. I LOVED the opportunity to learn, to discover new skills and to be able to share everything that yoga had given me with others. 2 years of learning with some incredible people really helped me to broaden my horizons, deepen my knowledge & begin to learn how to believe in myself a bit more The last photo is the moment I found out I’d qualified - on a windy beach walk with the boys and so so happy 🥰

#SUMMERPREGAME #DPFITCREW Well.. here we are starting week 2! I only knocked out UB from week 1 last week. I knew I was going to do week 2 UB today but decided to give W1 LB a go.. first leg workout in like 2 wks. I didn't push it & took it slow. Tolerated it pretty well.. aside from the finisher. Tapped out after 1st round as jumping still doesn't feel good. But it felt great to move!! Wk2 - UB ... wow! I didn't think it was gonna hit but boy was I wrong. Between the triceps & that band finisher - B U R N!! Loved it! @daniellepascente Definitely is not letting us down! 🙌🏻 Love seeing everyone's check ins & crushing these workouts!! About a week ago I ran my very first marathon! ✨ I really enjoyed the experience of running through the streets of Vienna, and the weather was pretty perfect for a longer run: sunny and rather chilly (the day before it rained almost all day long, and it even hailed for a bit, so luck was on our side!). Some of my highlights include: ☀️one of the opening songs from my block was Can’t Hold Us from Macklemore! ☀️getting a message from my family in Brazil on the big screen (you can see my reaction on the second photo!) ☀️all the beautiful people that came out to cheer, even trying to read my name off the race bib (and being of course overwhelmed by my two names and more often than not saying “go, Luzia!“) ☀️the funny signs everywhere - I definitely powered up by a mushroom a good 7 times! ☀️the live music throughout the day ☀️a little boy holding his hand out for a high five, who then, as I was about to high five him, removed his hand and ran his fingers through his hair instead, having the time of his life leaving me hanging ☀️having awesome friends cheering me on multiple times during the race ☀️having Glorious by Mackemore play once I crossed the finish line after 5 hours and 44 minutes of running ☀️having two dinners and cake afterwards ☀️walking (or rather trying to walk) down the steps at the train station after a 2,5-hour journey home My final conclusion? The only way out is through. Grief is not an easy journey by any means. I encourage you to not underestimate the physical toll that grief takes on your body. Happy International Dance Day! 🩰 Dancing was always part of my life…but it wasn’t always this positive beautiful thing. There were pockets of time (mostly in my late teens and well into my 20s) where a big cloud would hover over this one thing I loved most. Dancing was never the issue…it was the various toxic environments I found myself in, along with the wrong people/teachers/mentors I let into my life. Fast forward to now, inching my way to age 40…NOW I dance for me. It’s fun, it’s joyful, it’s the best therapy. And when I teach, I want my students to know that even though I hold them to high standards and challenge them…they’re safe with me - you can mess up, you can have a bad turning day or just an “off day” in general…it’s okay and it happens to all of us. Keep dancing…and remind yourself often WHY you love it so much. Looking forward to seeing you all in class this week. Let’s dance and celebrate the fact the we CAN!
