Before and After 🙌🏻❤️ I don’t have a lot of control right now and not being able to get out of the house has put me into overdrive on projects 😬 So today I finished up the kids work space 😊 As most of you know we homeschool and this year has been wonderful🙌🏻 we are all signed up for next year and hoping many years to come! I had this huge empty wall in my house and I just love filling empty spaces with useful things. Saturday night fever. For the evening became a taxi for my friend. It's fine, I was looking for an excuse to drive the Boxster anyway. I took my camera, just in case I would find a nice spot along the way. "Can you think of an interesting, well-lit place?" - I asked on our way back. Initially, I wasn't enthusiastic about the answer, but agreed to check it out. When we approached DoubleTree I was like "Wow, man, look at this light, it's perfect!". After a minute of hesitation I took the parking ticket and parked right next to the entrance. I did not carry my regular tripod, so again, I had to improvise a bit. It was a really quick session with 14 shots only. In the end, we managed to do everything in 15 minutes of free parking and no-one got bothered. Here's the effect! For this Sunday drive I was searching for some inspiration in street view. After a couple of minutes swiping through the coast, I found a perfect sea view spot. However, following a casual 30 minutes ride I was stuck in a dead end. Sorry, no access through the gate! What a pity! This wasn't the end of story, obviously. [rear👉] RUF CTR3 (premiered in 2007) is an extreme mashup between 987 Cayman and 911 (997) Turbo. As the former, it is mid-engined and rear-wheel-drive, but features the flat-six of the latter. It was boosted up to 700PS and came with manual transmission only (PDK was introduced in later Clubsport model in 2012). The body designed by RUF shared many parts of both models, however, was built on a dedicated platform. Only around 30 of these were ever made. This is a full-size (foam) prototype of the new Noble M500. It was originally presented in Goodwood a couple of months ago as a preview of the brand's new "entry-level" model. Although still without interior, a completely new design can be noticed at a glance. The actual model is going to be released later this year and feature Ford's 3.5l twin turbo engine with DSG gearbox. Of course it is an electric, level 3 autonomous crossover, has fancy wheels and the doors open in the opposite direction. But what drew my attention the most was the front. [swipe👉] BMW says that this concept of M8 Gran Coupe is there to cause a stir. Oh, yes it does. It literally begs to be introduced in the market as is. The model was already showcased in Geneva and Goodwood last year, but I haven't heard anything more about the production model ever since. Still, Audi and Mercedes, tremble before your next conqueror! The muscular design of this concept is perfectly highlighted by star shaped alloy wheels and numerous golden details (including the color of the front lights). The car is painted with iridescent paint (showing different shades of green), but I could only notice this being there in person. That design feature I did not fancy. . The last day of 2018 makes it the best for a sum-up. What a year this has been! Numerous visits to car shows, museums and events (some of them with media badge) as well as casual drives looking for the best spots (also at 5 am). Wonderful spring break trip finalized with my first YouTube movie. New equipment, including some nice lenses and new body which should be on its way to start 2019 strong. I got my first partnership deal with TurtleWax. My photographs were reposted by Fiat, Mini and Porsche. I joined Porsche Club Poland and got my second car. Also, I moved to the Netherlands, but it gave me even more opportunities to visit Europe's best car places and find new spots. Still have a lot to learn, but cars and photography are what makes me smile, so I will keep doing this next year (also in Poland). [👉swipe🐢] Felicia is already back from the service check. I was a bit worried, since (according to the service book) this was its first visit at the dealership since 1998. Skoda was scheduled for a general inspection, replacement of all filters, fluids and fixing (what I was thinking was a) loose suspension. Despite low milage (roughly 42k km) a list of defects in a 22 year old car could be quite long and hence expensive. Yet, I set myself a resolution of keeping Felicia in utmost condition and not to save on it (too much). . I asked around at Skoda and they said to me they do not see such (old) cars very often (not very surprising, I know). To be honest, they were curious just as me to see how it will go. In the end I was reported that brake pads had to be replaced (used in 80%), steering transmission only required some tightening (suspension was fine), all filters were like new (no need for a replacement) and oil, coolant and brake fluids were all replaced with some high-tech stuff. After all those non-service years I expected the dealership to charge me more for the job. So I am quite happy with the final cost of PLN 1127 (~EUR 260). Now I feel like having this peace of mind that Felicia is really in good condition. Maybe the next challenge will be to take it to Rotterdam? . [swipe👉] During the weekend I went to Brussels to see the latest exhibition held at Autoworld. "Porsche 70 Years" shows an evolution of Porsche in dozens of unique and interesting cars. And so there are (once) “everyday” Porsches, supercars, hypercars, concepts and also an unparalleled representation of motorsport cars. [swipe👉] Among all cars that have drawn my attention in Classic Remise, one really stood out. This example is one-of-a-kind Porsche 911 (930) Spyder. How is that? After all, Porsche has never had a Spyder version of the 911. There were, of course, limited runs of Speedsters built throughout the years (take the last one presented in Paris this year for example). On the other end, there were Spyder versions of other models, like 918, RS, Boxster and the original 550, which obviously served as an inspiration here. This 911 was customized by Paul Stephens. It took approximately 2000 man-hours to transform a tired 1988 3.2 liter Targa into lightweight (weight down from 1300kg to 950 kg thanks to swapping steel parts for aluminium), sportier (power up from 231 PS to 250 PS) version built in a spirit of Spyder. . [swipe👉] After Essen I jumped on the road again to visit one more special place. Less than 30 minutes later I was there, in Classic Remise Dusseldorf. Located in a former railway roundhouse is a center for classic and otherwise exceptional cars. This all-in-one establishment features dedicated dealerships, services, parts shops and garages. You could have probably seen the other one placed in Berlin too. I will be posting some of the remarkable cars I have bumped into there in the following days. Let's start with this one. [swipe👉] With a second set from Essen Motor Show let me start with this absolutely stunning RUF SCR. Introduced in Geneva earlier this year it resembles 911 (964), but don't be fooled, it shares no parts with the original. The car has modern carbon fibre chassis and body shell with integrated roll cage (quite clever, though). It features a naturally aspirated 4-liter flat six that comes with six speed manual only. The engine produces an output of 510 PS, peak torque of 470 Nm and has a top speed of 320 km/h (RUF does not provide acceleration stats by the way). The company plans to build only 15 examples a year with a price tag of EUR 650k. It would be worth visiting the show only to see this one. Oh, and the color is Irish Green. [swipe👉] Steam, fuel or electricity? . The rapid development of automobiles falls on 1880s. The earliest cars, often referred to as horseless carriages were largely powered by steam engines. Like a tricycle built by Peugeot in 1889 (only four made, though). Nevertheless, one of the most obvious disadvantages of steam technology was long warm-up time, which could take up to 50 minutes and could easily freeze in the winter. . At the turn of the century steam engine experienced a strong competition from rapidly developing internal combustion engines and... electric vehicles. I even found a note saying that "at the beginning of the 20th century, 40 percent of American automobiles were powered by steam, 38 percent by electricity, and 22 percent by gasoline". The noticeable advantages of using electricity against gas powered included at the time no vibration, smell, noise or gear changes (hence sometimes referred as women's car). On the other end of course, low range. . With the mass production of Ford Model T (since 1908), however, the price of gas-powered cars has fallen making electric and steam ones effectively much more expensive to buy. This very example is Baker Electric Roadster from 1908. In the museum note I found the following: . "Elegant, electrically powered sports roadster by the American marque Baker which at the time was one of the largest producers of electric city cars in the US. With this model Baker tried to make his electric cars look like the petrol-powered competition. The radiator, however, had no function and the batteries were located in the front under the "bonnet". The floor-mounted dashboard was made up of one Volt and one Ampere gauge. The battery charger can also be seen here.(...)” . [swipe👉] The Louwman Museum is a must-see for all petrolheads. Located in Hague, it features the world’s oldest private car collection with a total of 250 automobiles from 1886 up to 2013. But what is unique about it, is the story. The museum gives an incredible lesson throughout 3 centuries of automotive history. Even a few hours may not be enough to thoroughly visit the whole exhibition (especially for myself when taking pictures). You will find there one of the first surviving vehicles, unique race cars and famous rides like Bond’s DB5, Godfather's Lincoln V12, or cars belonging to Elvis and Churchill. [swipe👉] Part two from Warsaw Motor Show 2018. This time let me start with some Polish concept cars. First, I cannot say that I was convinced by the new vision of Warszawa M20 GT. The model is based on 2016 Ford Mustang GT (including its 5-liter V8) but seems to resemble the classic only in details. There was also some controversy about the cooperation with Ford along the way, but it appears that the one exists, but has indirect nature, through one of the Ford's suppliers. Second, I really liked the idea of Vosco S106, but it appears that the chances for a series production (and most importantly pricing) are minimal. However, the electric version is in development phase and this may be it. Third, don't forget the cool electric concept of Triggo, which totally must have been inspired by an alien's head! . Recent news was that Lonely Planet ranked Lodz second among top 10 value destinations in 2019. Just to quote the publisher’s note "Lodz (pronounced woodge) is a red-brick city that grew fabulously wealthy in the 19th century on the back of its massive textile industry, then went into decline after WWII. Since 2000 it has been gradually reinventing itself as a modern metropolis (it is Poland's third-largest city) and rebuilding its once-crumbling city centre.". Couldn't agree more. I especially enjoy shooting around my hometown. Still have quite a list of spots to visit, but am hoping this will not only be with the Boxster. Apart from numerous concept and supercars, Paris Motor Show has also brought a few interesting down-to-earth premieres. In this regard, after two decades, Suzuki has finally unveiled the new Jimny. Proclaimed by many as the best lightweight off-road car there is (or a cross-breed between G-Class and Defender), the successor had some serious expectations to face. I spotted this lovely Citroen Dyane just behind the gate of the Palace of Versailles. The model was launched in 1967 and was aimed to be a successor to then almost 20 year old 2CV. Dyane was, however, more universal, comfortable and came at a higher price. In fact, both cars shared the same engines and were offered simultaneously for over 16 years. But Dyane never gained that much popularity as 2CV. This particular example is "6" model, equipped with a larger 602 cc unit. From Citroen's UK advert I read: "Nobody in his right mind would buy a Dyane with the idea of impressing the neighbours. You buy a Dyane because it has five doors and a sun roof, independent suspension on all four wheels, petrol consumption that makes it almost as economical to run as a bicycle and a tough reliable engine that goes on and on and on". This Citroen 2CV has obviously seen some better times. But here’s some facts. The first prototype of 2CV was ready by 1938. Due to war, however, the actual model was unveiled in Paris as late as in 1948 while the production started a year later. Its twin-cylinder, air-cooled 375 cc engine with 9 PS (with around 45 kg of weight) was very small by international standards. This was partially a result of French tax constrains and the car just had to be affordable. On its website, Citroen quotes Pierre Jules Boulanger who was in charge of the company at the time stating that he aimed to “make a car that can carry four people and 50 kg of potatoes or a keg, at a maximum speed of 60 km/h, with a consumption of 3 litres per hundred kilometres and low maintenance costs." I don't usually use Felicia as daily, but since I had to move some stuff last month, I swapped it with Boxster for the whole week. Right after, I decided to give it a well deserved wash. I even used ear sticks to clean some hard to reach spots! But ever since I put my hands on Skoda, I wanted to throw its ugly seat covers away (next pic). These are old, torn, and dirty. It took me some time to consider that this may not be the right thing to do. After all, this piece really adds to the 90s style (and judging by the looks even earlier) and somehow makes the car special. Also, I have vintage sun visors depicting a cat. Both are still there! . As for a performance car, Vision RS features a dynamic 242 PS set-up, which (quite inevitably) is a plug-in hybrid. In case of this concept it doesn't matter if you don't have any friends, because there is only one seat. It doesn't matter if you sold everything to buy it, because there is no trunk too (you can't have it anyway, though). But you better get an umbrella, because there is no roof as well. Silver Arrow is a tribute to a legendary W125 model from 1937 which set a stunning speed record of 432.7 km/h on German autobahn. It remained a public road record for over the next 80 years (broken by Koenigsegg Agera RS in November 2017). Take a second to admire those extraordinary 168-spoke wheels. [swipe👉] Renault EZ-Ultimo is a monstrous concept. In fact, it is so big that people crowding around it were standing like two meters away from the platform just to be able to take a nice picture. Remember what I wrote about Symbioz? It's not a furniture anymore, guys, this one has an entire living room in it (look at a lamp, glass and armchair on the other picture to see what I’m talking about)! Or I can just quote Renault here by saying it's a "robo-vehicle concept, an autonomous, electric, connected, and shared mobility service solution offering a premium travel experience" (don't they get bored with this language stuff anyway?). Either way, if you were lucky enough you could actually see this EZ-Ultimo on the streets of Warsaw a few weeks back when a promotional video was shot. [more👉] With this retro-futuristic concept the Peugeot wants to declare that "Boredom is not part of our DNA". Inspired by the looks of the classic 504 Coupe (in production 1969-1983) it is still a fully electric, self-driving level 4 car (i.e. fully autonomous in selected areas). I watched a promotional video about it and apparently once you press the autonomous button on the central console, the steering wheel hides and you are even available to watch movies on the 49-inch infotainment screen. I got absolutely stunned by the velvet seats and the use of the 1960s logo. It seems I was so into details on this one I forgot to picture of the car as a whole. .
