Almost completely forgot to write an update for her so here we go . So besides my head sculpture we're currently working on sculpting the entire body! It'd actually a lot harder than I thought it would be, as I'm so used to working closer to life size if not bigger 😭 I've gotten so used to "go big or go home" that I completely forgot tiny art was a possibility . It's actually been super satisfying seeing how much this sculpture in particular has changed- I mean the last time I worked on her I literally carved out her stomach and re-sculpted her entire torso and back 🥲 let's just say my measurements were wrong and she also was not position accurate but we pulled through . I obviously still have some details to work out but if anything is standing out to you please let me know! 「波紋奏―降臨レリーフⅡ」（石膏・h40.9×52.4×8㎝） 松田光司作＜mitsuji matsuda works＞ 【 継続させる事 】 私のSNS上でもたびたび触れて来た事だが、何事も継続させることが一番難しかったりする。 何事もと書いたが、その中でも彫刻家（アーチスト）を続けるというのはかなりハードルが高いように感じる。 例えば、「個展を開催する」。 これも一回だけならば、時間と労力とお金を掛ければ何とか出来たりする。 しかし、2回目、3回目・・・10回目・・・20回目となるとそう簡単な事ではなくなるのだ。 そして例えば「作品が売れる」。 これも1回、2回くらいならば知り合いが買ってくれるとか、たまたまラッキーで売れたりとかはまあそこそこある話。 しかし、毎月売れるとか毎回個展のたびに売れるとか、それを10年20年続けるのは至難の業。 また例えば「人脈を作る」。 これも一人二人ならば自力で何とかなったり、もしくは紹介があったり、偶然知り会えたりというのもある。 しかし、5人、10人、20人となるとそう簡単な事ではない。 しかも実際人脈を広げていっても、自分の進む道を本格的にサポートしてくれるような人は出会った中の数パーセントも存在しなかったりする。 そして「生活の糧を得つつの彫刻制作」。 これは学生から彫刻家になる過程においてもっとも脱落して行く人が多いところ。 最初はそれほど売れないので、なにかしら彫刻とは関係のない事も含め色々な仕事をしてお金を稼ぐ。 そしてその中、彫刻を作り続け、なおかつ発表も続けるのだ。 これも1～2年くらいならば、意外と何とか出来たりするのだが、これを10年、20年続けるとなるといい加減彫刻も売れ出していないと正直厳しい。 結局、「継続させる事」というのは本人の強い意志と高いモチベーションが一番重要である事は間違いのない事なのだが、それだけではなくやはり 『 周りから必要とされているという事 』 ・・・これがなければ継続するというのはかなり難しいように感じる。 まあ、厳しい事ばかり書いたが、じっさい私の彫刻家としての半生はこんな感じ・・・しかも今、安全地帯において高見の見物をするが如くこんな事を書いている訳ではなく、現在進行形で「継続させる事」を必死でやっている真っ最中なのだ。 じゃあなんでそんな大変な事をやっているのかって ?！ ・・・・それは自分が生きている中でもっとも充実していてもっとも楽しい事だから。それ以外の理由が見当たらない。 #天女 #celestialmaiden #ripple #波紋 #羽衣天女 #watermirror #石膏レリーフ #日本人モデル #日本人女性 #石膏 #レリーフ #石膏の手 #japaneselady #japanesemodel #artsculpture #水鏡 #松田光司 #japanesesculptor #石膏像 #mitsujimatsudaworks #松田光司作 #sculptor #sculpture #sculpturelove #sculpturelovers #sculpturelover #彫刻 #彫刻家 #女神 #α7iii

As a longtime participant in and friend of the Governor's Art Show & Sale, one of his dying wishes was to again participate in this year's show. For my next few posts, I thought I would share a collection of my small wood sculptures from my Extempore series. My Extempore sculptures are fully realized in a day - start to finish with no preconceived plans. 55 in the collection so far with more planned. . This piece is the first in series. . Extempore Number 1, February 15, 2018 Poplar, mahogany, paint, burnt texture, graphite, and wax 8.5” x 4.5” x 3.5” . When this body of artwork began, I was working on a collection of outdoor metal sculptures, each of which was taking many hours to complete. I found myself needing a break from days of grinding metal. I came into the studio one day and made a small painted and textured sculpture, start to finish in a day. I was so excited and energized by the results that I made a goal to make one of these whenever possible. . In 2019 I did a residency in Philadelphia - the Windgate ITE residency - which was two months long. One of the bodies of work I explored was a collection of 28 Extempores, some of which are pictured here from the residency at the Museum for Art in Wood. @museumforartinwood . Private collection . Sadly this mug didn’t make it, it didn’t dry well enough before the kiln the first time, but I went ahead and glazed it because I thought it would make a great a plant pot instead! One of my favorite ways to decorate is sculpting on flowers, leaves, and animals. Felt like these 2 photos represented the #polishing process very well. The first photo is when my #sculpture is polished by hand up to 4000 grit. Which is about as far as I like to take #calcite. I’ve used some #oil and #wax at this point to seal and protect the sculpture. Cool thing about this particular #stone is that it’s of gem/semi-precious quality. Because of its hardness and density it will hold a nice #finish. The second photo #represents how far I can get the stone with power tools before I start the #sanding #process. From there it’s a serious #grind. Amassing throughout my life literally thousands of #hours of hard work. The #experience and #expertise of polishing #sculpture after sculpture for the last 29 years. ・ 『 本質を象る 』 この間、東京でみた。ルーマニア出身の彫刻家、ブランクーシの展覧会「 本質を象る 」が、やっぱり素晴らしかったなあ・・・・と、日常のあちこちで思い出している。 もう一回みに行ってもいいかもな、と思うくらいよかった。 当たり前のことを書いちゃいますが。 やはり、巨匠の中でも巨匠と呼ばれる人たちは、他と全然違う。 もう、全然違うのだ。 そういうのが芸術の素晴らしさで、また、残酷な一面なのかもしれないな。 ◯ 会場に、作ってる時のブランクーシの映像が流れてたので、じっとみてたのだが。かなり異常だな、と思った。静かな狂気すら感じた。 それをみてると、嬉しくなった。 ◯ 大きな彫刻を、僕も作りたい。そんな前々からあった気持ちに、火を注がれた。 どてかい彫刻、オブジェだけの展覧会、やってみたいな。

The Cascade: Yerevan's architectural structure that has undergone many changes and overhauls. City's chief architect Alexander Tamanyan originally conceptualized cascading waterfalls and terraced gardens between the city center and the Victory Park (which commemorates the Soviet Army’s victory over Germany in World War II). Consisting of 5 hillside terraces (each floor with unique work of art collection) connected with 572 steps, it houses the 40th Anniversary of Armenia monument on top (from where there's an excellent view of downtown Yerevan); with the entire territory being an open-air museum of modern art lying amid the green space.
