With the last front end pieces back from our local powdercoaters work could finally begin on reassembly, @powerflexbushes black series poly bushes fitted on rear of the control arms, front anti roll bar (yes this was fitted upside down at first), steering rack, and roll centre adjusters to help correct the geomtery to the lower ball joints/wishbones, along with new @febi.bilstein lower and inner ball joints. @bcracing_uk RM series coilovers were chosen for the Mini (we've only used Gaz on previous cars so itll be good to see how these compare) with 550lb/10kg front springs and 450lb/8kg rears, these coupled with front hubs fitted with new bearings/drive flanges with a stud kit and a refurbished steering rack finish off the front end suspension. Small French hatchbacks go hand and hand with motorsport. The big 3 (Peugeot, Citroen and Renault) have long been at the forefront when it comes to creating platforms fit for special stages. Whilst the 106 was sidelined in favour of its larger siblings for WRC duty, you could argue that the 106 has spawned some of Peugeot’s finest performance models, namely the Phase 1 and 2 Rallyes and the GTi. This 106 GTi has been prepared by Channing Motorsport and is a properly sorted little firecracker. Everything about it has performance in mind; no stone has been left unturned in the pursuit of speed. Starting off with a GTi is a fantastic basis. That TU5J4 1.6 engine produces around 120bhp from factory but given the weight savings this 106 has experienced, I can only presume the kerb weight (sorry Dad, mass) is comfortably under 800kg. That’s all you need for pocket-sized fun. The livery is a fantastic throwback to competition Peugeots of the 1990s, particularly the 306 Maxi rally car.
