The Green Triumph was a response to the Ford Capri and was built on the TR7 model platform, with rear suspension from the Rover SD1, and ideologically was supposed to replace the MG MGB. It seemed like a great promising project, but due to financial problems, the factory where its production was planned was closed. Current build - the Jaguar XJ-S TWR Touring Car in 1/43 from Heller. I'm building this to replicate the 1984 European championship winner. I have added a mixture of decals from the spares box and some of my own to do my best to create the livery. Here it has been clearcoated with Tamiya LP9 and then given a light polish. #frenchfriday and @terminal.motoring’s #vanweek This faded Kangoo may not look like much at first glance but it’s a very unusual MPV version with AWD called the Trekka. It also truly shows off how diverse and accepting that #Rustival was! Costing £10,995 new in 2002, you got a 93hp petrol engine through a 5 speed transmission or an 80hp diesel. It was only sold in the UK between 2002 and 2005. The model features permanent four wheel drive, that automatically powers the rear wheels when the front start to loose traction, and the ground clearance is 40mm more than the standard van, with a wading depth of 400mm. To complete the look, some new bumpers. Just 24 petrol and 73 diesel remain on UK roads, with only 74 Petrol and 268 Diesel ever registered, this one being diesel. Current build - the Jaguar XJ-S TWR Touring Car in 1/43 from Heller. Minor modifications have been made to the interior with seatbelts made from black painted masking tape with silver for the buckles. The real car was right hand drive but this only came in left so I'll keep it like this. Seat is painted in Tamiya orange and then semi gloss clear coat with the rest in semi gloss black. Heller did do a version of this kit with touring car decals but it's super rare so I'm using the standard kit with a mixture of spare and homemade decals. First it's been painted in Tamiya green and Tamiya white. How often do you think about old roads? (Warning: niche post alert) Here are some historical highlights from today’s Improving Educational Family Activity visit to the British Motor Museum: not boring old cars, but pictures of the evolution of road surfaces through the 19th century. (Warned you it was niche…) It’s easy to take roads for granted, given how the country is covered with them these days. But, as the museum’s fabulous ‘Time Road’ makes it easy to imagine, they are, and always have been, a big deal. Their presence, what they were made of, and how they were kept safe and sound, made a huge difference to speed, comfort, safety, and cost of travel, and that’s just for starters. Dust, mud, and bone-shattering ruts, not only made travel unpleasant and slow, they also increased wear and tear on vehicles and injury to horses, and therefore costs. Looking at it with a view to imagining the everyday experiences of the past, especially as a hobbyist historical fiction writer, museum exhibits like this are a perfect starting point. There are an also few areas of London where you can still see original 19th century wooden road surfaces, but you have to know where to look. And I’ve forgotten all but one. So, enjoy this selection of images, plus a beautiful 1923 bus, and the stunning blue plastic buttons from my other favourite historical-fiction-writer thing in the museum: the suspension simulator, which allows you to pretend you’re trundling along a rutted 19th-century lane in a horse-drawn carriage (for about 9 seconds, and only if you close your eyes).

THE SURVIVOR With a staggering 21 years of production, the XJS is a very spec-sensitive car. Older examples reeks of British Leyland, but a final-gen XJS, with its dark tinted body-width taillights, are mellowing very nicely, blending iconic stance born in ‘70s, with ‘90s touches. (An Eternity in Porsche years: Carrera RS 2.7 was launched in ‘73, by the time XJS bows out in ‘96, the 996 was just a few months away!) Unfortunately, most XJS in Thailand are well past their prime: ill-fitted with glassfiber bodykits, dubious wheels, and, heaven forbid, its V12 swapped for some Toyota engine. However, here we have a true survivor: painted in British Racing Green over tan interior with dark piping and inlaid Burr Walnut, cream double coachline coupled with clear glass, this exemplar is downright irresistible.
