Double trouble-or- double love?โ โ People often ask me if getting two dogs is better than getting one. And my answer is- it depends.โ โ Dogs donโt need company to be happy if you give them plenty of social outings and mental/ physical stimulation. But, two dogs certainly can be lovely buddies!!โ โ The challenge is to train them both!โ โ Sometimes they get so busy playing with each other that they ignore you (and this is important to avoid!)โ โ Solution- train them both together!โ โ 1. Double down (no pun intended) and make training a priority by setting systems in place that both pups need to follow.โ โ 2. Find one or two times each day where you practice โComeโ as a playful and rewarding game!โ โ 3. Reward their attention with praise and affection.โ โ 4. Treat generously to establish a strong bond with you! ๐ฅฐโ โ 5. Spend time with them individually/apart as well to build a strong bond with each pup individually and ensure they each know their own name.โ โ 6. Let them play, and interrupt with a โcomeโ and then let them return play again.โ โ 7. Allow them to play tug with each other, but not with you.โ โ 8. National Puppy Day is all cute and all but I want to shine a light on the ones that make it possible. The puppy mama! They always have a special place in my heart. I photographed this mamas babies back in October. They all found homes but the beautiful Tiger here. I have no clue how she hasnโt been adopted. Outside of being an SLP, Iโm a wife, a mama two two boys, and mama to our sweet girl Molly. Poor girl twisted her front paw and shoulder. We took a trip to the emergency vet, she has some arthritis in her shoulder and paw but thankfully no break.
