RILEY | I received news today that Riley recently graduated as a Buddy Dog with a young boy in Canada. She did very well in her training and class with the boy she was matched with. Rileyโs new family has said, โWe love Riley so much and canโt thank you enough for taking the time to raise her. She has meant so much to our son, and has helped him push through his fears. Yesterday Riley went to the dentist with him. He was able to complete his whole appointment. She stayed right by the chair and he squeezed her leash to feel brave. Gratitude post โจ I may have a difficult dog, but without my difficult dog, I would have never had the community I do now. Dave is staying with us for a long weekend visit, and he was more than thrilled to discover that the only thing that's changed around here is the new "squeaky toy" we added to the collection of bones and tug toys. Dave stepped right back into his old place in the pack. Amazingly, given his limited experience with small puppies, he's been exceptionally gentle with the baby (even though Patriot has been exceptionally scrappy) all while not missing a beat in his high energy play with the big boys. My friends have knicknamed Dave Mr. Joy Bubbles.They see him, really see him, and all the joy contained within his heart and soul. In advance of his slumber party this weekend, they brought him for a reintroduction visit last Friday. His walk up to the house was so comfortable with his peeps. I waited out front for his arrival. He was at such peace, which didn't surprise me, but I began to wonder if he remembered me, until he did, and his wiggle butt went into high gear. It went into a higher gear when he saw his big brothers. That, also, did not surprise me. I've never been so foolish as to think I ranked higher than his brothers. ๐ Welcome back, Dave! My view. His view. Their view. Shared view. Quiet view. A Tale in 5 Photos In the wee dark hours as my coffee brewed, I took Patriot outside to take care of business, and the big boys settled in on their bed together. The big boys were fast asleep when we came back inside, but the little one was ready to greet the day and his brothers. Patriot approached the bed, but the big dogs didn't flinch. Unsure if he could join in on the slumber party, he sought out a bone from the toy box and laid down on the floor a few feet away. He watched the boys sleep. Then, he looked at me. Then, back at his brothers. The big dogs had curled up in "fox poses", tight little balls that meant they were deeply sleeping. It also meant they may not notice the littles one's clumsy approach. I tilted my head and quietly whispered, "Why not try?" to the sleepy puppy. He approached and, with one paw at a time, climbed onto the bed. Laser opened one eye and barely lifted his head when Patriot made his approach. Patriot, doing his best to go unnoticed, subsequently missed his mark and sat on Laser's head. Pacific never broke his rhythmic snoring. The older yellow Lab unfurled his body just enough to make a little room for the addition, and Patriot quietly settled in. Then, the three slept.
