Sicken helg ändå! Mamma har varit i Stockholm på årsmöte med @svdownforeningen Hon har fått fortsatt förtroende av medlemmarna i landet att sitta kvar i Riksstyrelsen under ytterligare 2 år.. Grattis till henne! Och övriga styrelsen så klart! Själv har jag hängt med pappa och Meja hela helgen. Varit ute och snickrat och tittat på pappa som fixat mer i Mejas lekstuga. I sommar kommer hon kunna sova där.. om hon vågar vill säga! Vi har haft spontanbesök av mammas gamla kollega som hade vägarna förbi. Trevligt för oss men tråkigt för mamma som missade! Men vi gjorde som hon lärt oss, kommer det besök så bjuder man på fika! Allt annat är skamligt! Sen hade vi mer besök idag när vi hade hämtat mamma på tågstationen. Sunrise partners with up to 25 local school districts in the Pittsburgh area to provide educational and vocational services, life skills and assistance with transitioning into adulthood. Sunrise works with the community to provide job experience, as well as additional educational opportunities. The money used to participate in the race benefits the work that the school does. I plan to participate in at least two more 5Ks before my birthday, in June! 🎉 (I have four on my list, and I might end up doing all four!) The theme and my goal is to participate in 4 5Ks B4 40! Let’s talk about advice. We are not trained experts and do not claim to have all the answers. The best advice we can give you is that no matter what your child is going through or suffers from, don’t give up. Learn everything you possibly can. Google, join groups, follow bloggers, read books, ask lots of questions, meet with professionals and find a tribe of like minded people who are going through or have gone down the same path. It will allow you to make more informed decisions. Become an expert when it comes to your child. Journal and keep track of their triggers, what works and doesn’t work. How they are acting through out the day in case meds need to be adjusted. What is stressful, calming, scarey or enjoyable? Accept your child’s quirks and all. Instead of focusing on what they can’t do focus on what they can do. Don’t focus on how they are different practice acceptance. Celebrate successes and stop comparing. The unconditional love and acceptance is what they untimatley need. I’m not saying it’s easy and it’s gonna get hard before it gets easier but don’t live in the darkness. It’s ok to grieve the life you imagined for your child but don’t let yourself live in the darkness and hurt. 🌟 Embracing Imperfect Moments 🌟 It’s 21:07, and we’re having a little apéro with my dude. This isn’t your typical lifestyle post. We couldn’t be bothered to fuss over perfect plates or arrange everything neatly on the table. Because tonight, it took us over 1.5 hours to get Jules to sleep. Three trips back to his room, staying until he finally « collapsed » for good. But you know what? This messy moment is lightyears better than a few months, let alone years ago. Between ages 1.5 and 3.5, Jules wouldn’t sleep. At all. Waking up screaming 15 to 20 times a night. It was torture—for us, for him, for our family, for our couple, for our ability to freaking function as human beings, for us as two people who love their full-time jobs. After trying every trick and sleep method out there, we turned to prescribed melatonin, risperdal, and eventually growth hormone. And finally, Jules started to sleep! I still remember the first night « we only needed to go to him twice. » It felt like we had our lives back. We were human again. But remember that first night he slept through? It felt too good to be true! Did we have to replicate every detail to make it happen again? Nope. Sure enough, he woke up the next night. And the next. But gradually, the wake-ups lessened. Since moving to our new place a year ago, Jules sleeps like a legend. Sure, he still has his nights, his dad still joins him sometimes, and he loves to party in his bed. But compared to a couple of years ago, what a positive change! Honestly, I don’t know how we managed back then. Maybe we didn’t have a choice. We had to take care of Jules and show up at work. But that rough patch taught us resilience. And now that it’s over, we cherish every moment together as a couple, with friends, or simply on our own. #nofilters ! 🌊 The best couple of days. Much needed. Super proud of Pippi who has walked soooooo far on her walking harness in the last 2days, longer than she's ever walked before. Her hatred of dogs and birds has been kept in check (!) with constant careful manoeuvring by me. The new pool and restaurant at the campsite is lovely (rather jealous of the mummies in there drinking their espresso martinis and relaxing- sigh - never mind). Pippi chose to sit on the side of the pool or skirt the edges, but it's all building up her confidence so next time we're here hopefully she'll want to get in. Back to reality tomorrow but we both feel quite refreshed. Had a wonderful time last evening celebrating the 10th anniversary of the @dickenssanomiacademy, a non profit trailblazing school in Plantation, Florida leading the way with unique programs for children with special needs. Felt honored that our Reach Dem Foundation was able to participate in a meaningful way to a cause that is very important to us. Together we can in fact change the world. A couple years ago when my husband and I started our Foundation we made a commitment to serve the vulnerable, the marginalized, society’s rejects, the lost and those in need. And we have stayed true to that commitment. The Lord has led us to spread the gospel of Jesus, provide housing for the homeless and assist the unhoused with their basic needs, provide educational scholarships to several university students across the US, assist schools with supplies, finance church expansions and Kingdom projects, assist with rent and mortgage payments, we have bought groceries, financed funerals, financed medical missions, donated to numerous causes, just to name a few. Many of you who are aware of some of the things we do have asked how you can participate and I have never given an answer. But what I’ve come to realize is that the work is so great that we need many more hands on deck. Outside is our favorite place to be because it’s ENDLESS SENSORY we never say no too! Our only sensory issue outdoors is sometimes she wants to eat dirt which we use redirection with that to a food item like trail mix or a gummy snack then we’re golden! While at the playground another group of kids arrived so we had to leave immediately. If kids are going down the slide Kaylee is in the middle of “stimming” of going down the slide 100 times she’ll have a meltdown and push them if they are in her way. Playgrounds can get to serious heights for young little baby’s so we know to leave if I’m not tailing her at all times sense Kaylee cannot make the connections to not push other kids if they are in her way. She just doesn’t know what she’s doing. She’s unable to realize it’s wrong and other kids don’t know about her mentality mindset. This is a problem we always face. Sometimes things get wild when other kids her age run up to us and want to play with Kaylee and talk to her and say hi. I have to say things like “oh she’s just not talking yet. She can hear you though and likes to play!” (Although I truly know she cannot pretend “play” not “normal”) then I always offer we can all swing together sense that’s something Kaylee DOES enjoy or truthfully we just leave as kids show up and go do something better like state parks! Okay okay. Se lige et tydeligt tegn på at Milo har rykket sig sådan rent kognitivt. For bare er par måneder siden kunne han ikke finde ud at lave denne her plade. I love you, Terry 🤟🏽 We learned about this phenomenal organization named CARD 🙏🏽Center for Autism and Related Disabilities which is group of concerned families and professionals who, since 1993, have provided services to individuals with autism and related disabilities, to their families, and to the professionals who work with them. The Florida State Legislature allocates funds that are administered to the seven regional CARD sites through the state’s Department of Education. The program has grown to include several branch offices & is celebrating 30 years. Dr. Michael Alessandri spoke so beautifully, as did everyone who went up to speak and it was truly humbling to hear how incredibly heart-led this organization is. CARD’s purpose is to enhance the lives of individuals by helping them become valued members of their communities offering free support within the natural contexts of all settings including homes, child care programs, schools, work, and community businesses and programs. The auction & donation goal last night was to raise $700,000 and that was accomplished & exceeded. Wow!
