MLEM: Space Agency is a push-your-luck board game from Reiner Knizia, published by Rebel Studio. In this game you are sending feline astronauts into space and trying to push the rocket ship to the furthest reaches of the solar system, without it crashing. Players have 8 astronaut tokens, and each has a special function. For example, one gives you double points for landing on a moon, another adds a free die with a value of 1, another starts the rocket three spaces further up the journey and another lets you parachute to safety on a local moon or planet after the rocket crashes. Each turn you choose one astronaut to place on the rocket, and then you decide how long you want to stay on it before you jump off. Dice are rolled by the "captain" of the rocket, and if the dice match up to the dice symbols on the main game mat, the ship will continue on. If the dice don't, the rocket crashes and any astronauts still on the rocket are returned to each player's board (except for the parachute astronaut which can safely jump off). As dice are used they are removed from play, which means the further you travel, the fewer dice you have available. The exception are the "afterburner" dice which when rolled can be rolled again on the next travel attempt. The further you travel into space, the higher the rewards. Jump too early and you miss out on points. Remain too long and the ship might crash and you get nothing. There are also four public goals that players can earn, such as having your cats on four different planets. If you are the first to earn one of these you keep it for end game points. The game ends when a player has landed all of their astronauts in space, or the ship has crashed 11 times. You want to be sure to land all of your astronauts on planets or moons by game's end. I created a 6th player board with tokens, and I place a few of the UFO tokens near the moons at the top of the board, and it plays well. Zasady gry są proste, jednak trzeba bardzo uważać podczas licytacji. Dobre karty kuszą, ale wykładanie najlepszych kart listów na samym początku może okazać sie złym pomysłem. Trzeba wykazać się sprytem, spostrzegawczością i taktyką, czasem zrezygnować z licytacji, a czasem wręcz ją podkręcić. Czas gry będzie innym za każdym razem. Wszystko zależy od ułożenia kart, bowiem grę kończymy w momencie wyłożenia czwartej karty z czerwoną obwódką. Zatem już od samego początku gracze muszą być czujni. W grze jest dużo zwrotów akcji i emocji, jakie towarzyszą podczas rozgrywki. Gracze rozwijają logiczne myślenie, szybkie liczenie i umiejętność licytacji. Trochę sprytu także sie tutaj przyda. Niezmiennie zachwycają nas ilustracje. Każda z kart to małe dzieło sztuki. We didn’t see its full potential though - as we didn’t use our vetos enough and focused a bit too much on the industries. Also got one or two rules wrong. But that just means that this great game will elevate even further our next play 😎 Looking forward to it! • Built up the blue company and did some good mergers that my opponents kindly didn’t veto 😄 That made me stay very competitive throughout the game and I ended up in a tied victory 🤘 Final scores were 71-71-55-49.

Players, as feline astronauts, will chuck dice to fly as far as possible. Don’t push your luck too far or your rocket will explode. Luckily, cats have 9 lives. Each round a different player will take on the role of commander. A round starts with Takeoff in which each player in clockwise order, starting with the commander, places one of their astronauts on the Rocket Board from top to bottom. Next, comes Travel in which the commander rolls all available dice. Depending on the result, combined with the dice values at the rocket’s location, you’ll travel a number of spaces equal to the sum of the dice used. Put aside used dice except ones with the Afterburner symbol. If none of the thrown dice match the dice values at the rocket’s location your rocket crashes to the ground. If your rocket didn’t crash you move onto Landing in which players, from top to bottom, can decide to disembark at the current location. Repeat Travel and Landing until all astronauts have disembarked or the rocket has crashed. Assign a new commander and repeat all the previous steps until a player has no astronauts left or the rocket has crashed 11 times. Havalandi is 2-4 player Reiner Knizia game where a hot air balloon moves along the edge of the board, and the rows that track across from it dictate where you can place your control markers. By creating certain clusters of your markers, or placing them next to pavilions, you can gain points. There are also public objectives that can gain you points. It took us (3 players) about 45 mins to learn and play. The decision making is where to place your markers to control an area on the board, and when to block an opponent. The theme is hot air ballooning but has really nothing to do with the gameplay, other than the balloon moving around the edge of the board. I played this at a convention in the Hot Games area, but it wasn't getting a lot of attention, and I understand why. The game was average. I didn't feel much tension in the game. Yes, you would have to choose whether to go for points or block an opponent, and sometimes you could achieve both on a turn, but it didn't tax my brain much. Cat Blues: The Big Gig is a marvelous game that really exemplifies what card games do best: packing a lot of interesting decisions into a small timeframe and simple ruleset. Players are collecting cool jazz cats to form quartets—earning tips (victory points) as they serenade their opponents. 🎺 😸 Each bidding round, cards are drawn forming an offer where players bid using values reminiscent of shedding games like Scout. The crux here is you’re bidding with the same hand of cards you’re trying to build up and eventually form quartets from. This can lead to some delectable dilemmas as you bide your time, read your opponents, and try to value the auctions accordingly. Sometimes you’ll need to win the auction just to bolster your bidding ability for next time. One of my favorite parts of the game is you must win an auction to be eligible to play quartets (and thus earn points). This incentivizes bold play in a way that really increases the fun for me. You see that “go big or go home” energy come out in the way people place their bids too—often you can’t risk not making your best offer up front. But will that be an overpay? These auction dynamics are surprisingly intricate, particularly for a card game. Cat Blues is played over 3 rounds, each with a pool of 20 points that drains alarmingly fast. A quartet of 3s will earn 3 points, while one of 5s gains you 5. Gauging when to play your quartets and run out the clock can be exhilarating. And then there’s the dastardly double edged sword of the joker cards 😈 Jokers act as wild cards, allowing players to form surprisingly strong bids or complete quartets with ease...but beware! The player who used the most at the end of a round (or even has them hanging out in hand) loses a whopping 5 points. The only way to be truly rid of them is by playing a joker quartet but you earn zero points for doing so. There’s an absolute joy in seeing the clever pieces come together here, layers revealing themselves with each subsequent play. It's #tabletoptuesday and today I'm highlighting Schotten Totten by the great Reiner Knizia! This is a two player only game that plays in 15-30 minutes, which is why it has been hitting the table more frequently for me lately. In Schotten Totten there are 6 suits numbered 1-9, and 9 boundary tiles. Throughout the game you will be placing 3 cards on each side of these 9 boundary tiles, trying to score the most points and claim that tile for your clan. If you claim 5 tiles, or 3 tiles in a row, you win. This game is super simple, but my oh my is it good. At first it seems arbitrary where you place your cards, but once you have to decide how you want your groups of three to score things get interesting. You have the ability to hold out and go for a higher scoring condition with your cards, or jumping ship on a previous plan and settling for a lower scoring condition. Sometimes you realize you lost an area before you even have a card there because of what your opponent did, but that's great, now you have a discard slot to help you find just the right card to beat them somewhere else! There's so much strategy and depth to this simple card game, and it plays so fast. These two factors have made it one of Amy's go to suggestions for game night when we're too tired for a longer game. Karty możliwe do zakupu tworzą rynek, na którym są układane w stosy - po trzy sztuki i na początku każdej rozgrywki będą to zawsze te same karty. Kiedy dany stos się wyczerpie, kolejny gracz może wybrać dowolną inną kartę i w ten sposób wprowadzić ją na rynek. 🧳 Możemy wprowadzić do gry również żetony jaskiń🪨, które to układamy na planszy w odpowiednich miejscach, a jeśli nasz podróżnik zatrzyma się obok takiej jaskini, to może zabrać dla siebie taki żeton. Możemy go wykorzystać w swojej turze, a gwarantują one jednorazowe umiejętności. The rules recommend playing three games and then comparing your total scores, but I don't know if there's a procedure for picking starting player (possible advantage/disadvantage in going first?). Kariba was simple, fun and with some thinking needed. There's hand management, card counting (which I suck at) and some exciting push-your-luck play. I think it plays better with 3p than #scout #scoutboardgame , but #trendy #trendyboardgame has a more interesting element of shared incentives and temporary alliances. Ooh, here is a crazy blast from the past: Tower of Babel (2005). I always totally enjoyed this game, but it never really found a niche around here and some of my friends who are usually big Knizia fans kind of inexplicably strongly dislike it. So my last recorded play was over a decade ago. It was really interesting to play again, both because I was reminded that I still really like it, and because I was seeing even more of the subtlety and strategy. Like a number of his games from this period, it’s a little bit mechanically flashy in a way that he’s moved past; his more recent games are a bit cleaner and make more accommodations to setting and theme (not that many of his older games weren’t better in that respect too). Still, I find it endlessly fascinating and playing it made me want to play it again very soon. 🇳🇱 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 Stapelstad 🏡 van @whitegoblingames (🇬🇧 in comments) 👥 2-4 p. ⏱️ 45 min. 🧒 8+ 🏘️ Zelfs in een rustige idyllische wijk wordt hard gevochten om de beste grond. In Stapel Stad bouwen de spelers hun mooie huizen op de beste stukjes grond. Hoe meer de grond waard is, hoe meer punten je scoort per bouwlaag. 🚧 In je beurt heb je 2 opties 1️⃣ Bouw huizen en/of parken 2️⃣ Pak kaarten Als je kaarten kiest dan neem je 2 kaarten en is je beurt daarmee voorbij. Als je gaat bouwen dan ga je juist kaarten uit je hand spelen. Je bouwt altijd aangrenzend aan de centrale kavel of aangrenzend aan eerder gebouwde huizen of parken. Een huis speel je door kaarten te spelen in de kleur van de kavel waarop je wilt bouwen. Voor elke kaart bouw je 1 huis en je kunt dus op elkaar bouwen door meerdere kaarten te spelen. Je scoort vervolgens voor het aantal ogen op de kavel * het aantal huizen dat je op de kavel bouwt. Je mag 1 keer per beurt een park bouwen, dit levert geen punten op maar aangrenzend aan het laatst gebouwde huis of park van deze beurt mag je wel nog door met het bouwen van andere huizen op een aangrenzende kavel. Als je niet meer kan of wil verder gaan met bouwen dan pak je 1 kaart van de trekstapel en eindigt daarmee je beurt. Het spel gaat zo door tot 1 speler 2 of minder huizen over heeft. Je maakt dan de ronde af en gaat vervolgens bonuspunten scoren voor de 4 bonus gebieden op de kaarten voor de hoogste huizen en de meeste kavels en over het totaal van de kaart gezien nog eens voor de meeste aaneengesloten kavels. 🖼️ Zoals je misschien wel al kan lezen is Stapel Stad een super makkelijk spel. Het laat me qua moeilijkheidsgraad maar ook wel qua plannen en de kaartjes erg denken aan Ticket to Ride. Daarmee is het geen must have voor de bordspelfanaat maar dit is wel een mooi spel wat je letterlijk met iedereen op tafel kan leggen en dat soort spellen hebben we allemaal wel eens nodig 😉 🤔 Ik vind het jammer dat ze dit spel niet net even in een kleiner doosje hebben gedaan. This is the fantastic two player only version of Carcassonne by Reiner "The Doctor" Knizia 🏰🔥 This game is such a fun experience, as the board is confined within the walks of the castle. And as you score points, you move along the walls of the castle trying to score just enough to land on juicy bonus spaces. ✴️ Similar to my balance in this photo, this game is such a balanced two player experience with the game always feeling close. I use to own the regular version, sold it and repurchase the version with Vincent Dutrait art and then wonder why I sold it in the first place. I guess my appreciation for Knizia designs has grown a lot. 64 🧙The Quacks of Quedlinburg: this is probably my favorite push your luck game, is hard for me to think in another one that does it better than this one. 63 🐉Arborea: another fairly new game, this is an euro with pretty cool passing of time mechanism and an even cooler resource gathering than everyone can use. 62 🪐Planet Unknown: this is one of my favorite polyomino puzzle games, very simple combination of puzzle with tracks, simultaneous play which does makes it very solitaire but for this one I dont really care, it’s too fun. 61 👗Rococo Deluxe Edition: a bit of deck building, some area of majority, very streamline rules and a fabulous production by @eaglegryphon . Do you ever play solo games? In our home, two things have been proven true: we love Reiner Knizia, and I love solo games. Well, recently, @schmidt_spiele has decided to combine the two and release a series of games in the "For One" line, all designed by Reiner Knizia himself. All these games are exclusively solo and use a challenge system where new rules are slowly introduced and some curveballs are thrown at you with rules changing, be it how you play or how you score specific scenarios. Today, I want to focus on Number Up. At first, I was not particularly intrigued by its design (they are just colored numbered cards), but it turned out to be the one I ended up gravitating to the most and the first one I finished. I'm not saying it will end up being my favorite, but set up is incredibly fast and the rules changes are always focused on how you score, meaning you are up and running in no time, and playing multiple scenarios is a breeze. In Number Up, every turn, you draw a card and play a card to the grid. There is no restriction on how you play the card, as long as it's adjacent to another card and respects the grid size. 🃏 Your goal varies by scenario, but it will usually be to achieve certain goals to earn a checkmark (worth 10 points). These goals can be to achieve a certain sum out of cards of the same color, having a numbered 3-of-a-kind or having streaks. The rules are extremely simple, but the game is very addictive. I never played just one round of it. Every scenario has different levels you can achieve depending on your score, so you can choose to replay them if you want to achieve the Gold level. 🥇 I, for one (pun not intended 😄), really enjoyed Numbered Up. It's a great placement puzzle, and even if you see you are unable to reach a checkmark in a given column/row, you still want to maximize the points you can get there. For someone who wants a quick setup solo, it's a great choice. Reiner Knizia, you've done it again! Ambos son juegos sencillos, rápidos de explicar y duran unos 15-20 minutos por partida 🍣Mecánicamente son similares, pero la mayor diferencia es donde se centra las decisiones. En Piko Piko es sencillo: tienes que conseguir un valor con tus dados, apartándolos y tu decisión es saber qué dados retiras. Y he aquí donde está la gracia: no puedes volver a apartar dados con el mismo valor que ya habías elegido. ¿Me llevo un dado de 5 o 2 dados de 1? ¿Me interesa asegurarme este valor o tirar menos dados con la esperanza de que salgan más del otro? El juego es pura apuesta y las partidas son una montaña rusa de emociones con tiradas horribles y otras carambolas imposibles. 🐡Por otra parte en Sushi Bar, tienes una puntuación más interesante que su hermano mayor. Tienes fichas positivas ( sushi) y negativas (raspas de pescado) y vas a poder tantas fichas de sushi como de raspas tengas, por lo que ya hay un elemento nuevo: intentar equilibrar la cantidad de fichas de cada tipo, maximizando los valores positivos y reduciendo los puntos negativos. Las tiradas, en este caso, se reducen a un máximo de tres, pero son las distintas acciones que puedes hacer lo atractivo del juego. Puedes conseguir fichas de sushi o de raspas del mercado común o intentar robárselas a otro jugador. Ya no es tanto forzar la suerte, sino adaptar los resultados y elegir qué te conviene más en tu turno. 🥢Piko Piko es más directo, fácil y loco de jugar. Sushi Bar tiene algo de "memory", toma de decisiones (pero sigue siendo casi tan fácil como Piko Piko) y algún punto contraintuitivo (como quitarle raspas de pescado a otro jugador para impedirle puntuar más fichas). 👑Mille Fiori by Reiner Knizia. 🤩What a simple yet thinky and fun tile placement and card drafting game. 😘It looks gorgeous with nice art on board and clear glass looking player pieces. 🤔There is no theme as you simply play some mini games to score points but it didn’t bother us. 👌It is also a quick game and satisfying to play. Review zu Kniffel For One: Bei Kniffel fällt es mir schwer, eine neutrale Rezension zu verfassen… Da ich hier aber meine eigene Meinung verbreite, ist mir das relativ egal haha. Als großer Kniffel-Fan (ja, ich bin diese Generation 😉) musste ich Kniffel For One natürlich auf Herz und Nieren austesten – und bin direkt und endlos süchtig danach geworden. Hier wird von Reiner Knizia zunächst das altbewährte Kniffel-Prinzip aufgegriffen: Würfeln und durch Kombinationen Punkte sammeln. Bei Kniffel For One (übrigens meiner Meinung nach die beste Variante der bei Schmidt Spiele erschienenen For One Reihe) wird das Spielprinzip speziell auf Solospieler umgemodelt: Mit Levels sowie speziellen Regeländerungen und Bonusplättchen welche sich von Level zu Level unterscheiden.
