We were devastated to learn that Jem @mrwonkylegs lost his battle against the many obstacles life put in his way. Jem was so very special, he was born probably to be a fight dog, but dumped due to his birth deformity, was heartworm positive, and later developed skin cancer and tick borne illness common among Pit bulls used as fighting dogs. But after he was rescued, fostered, and adopted into a loving family he LIVED! Last year he collaborated with two fabulous small businesses; @dizzylizzydesignsco and @ittybittypittyco to make the combination Lily Rose 🌹 is wearing of the Monarch Butterfly bandana and beaded collar. This was to help bring awareness and to raise funds for Monarch Butterfly sustainability, a project his mother is passionate about. And today Lily wears it to honor Jem. Many people think that the wings of Monarch Butterflies bring the souls of those we loved to visit and comfort us. I hope that when Jem's mom sees her first Monarch of the season, she knows that Jem is never truly gone. Some weeks, it is really important to have a routine. This will be our first #Shabbat at home without Sally the dog. Our dogs are Jewish. They wait patiently through the #shabbatblessings, they sit during the #hamotzi (blessing over bread) and -when healthy-they get #challah (people food) once a week. Towards the end, we fed Sally whatever she would eat...steak, chicken, sweet potato, peas, challah, whatever. Another very emotional day today. Lost another family member. Brandy was a protector of the family and was part of our family for 13 years this month. She was mine to begin with and became part of the whole family's in the end. She loved the family so much and was always happy to see us. Even today up until the very end.
