The Taxidermy Hall of Fame of North Carolina AND The Creation Museum are in one location…and there’s also lemon fudge. 👀 There’s also a number of collections within the museum that’s within a museum. This place has *layers*. Like old keys? Got it. Old saws? Yep. Old corkscrews? That too! Literally full to the brim in every corner of all types of stuff. So, that said, if you don’t like stuffed critters (some great taxidermy here and a few so-bad-it-is-good taxidermy too) or ‘turn or burn’ Christianity in the form of 1970’s & 80’s tracts and handmade plaques then you’ll still have plenty to look at. Other things to note - Donation based. Hours differ than the bookstore it’s located in. You are recorded and the video is streamed in the store aka folks are watching you. You have to request to have the chain gate opened for you so you can enter. Self-guided tour. And yes there’s a small selection of fudge for sale. 903-Ft Above Sea ➙ Here’s one of my favorites! Elevation marker similar to the ones located on and near Whiteface Mountain. Dated 1940. This appears it was placed by the Erie County Highway Department. It’s the only mountain-shaped elevation marker in this style I’ve seen outside of the Adirondacks. I remember hearing there may have once been another one like this near Morningside Reservoir in Syracuse.

Cameron Barnstormer Murals in Cameron, North Carolina are a ‘see it before it’s gone’ situation. The old tobacco barns were painted by a number of different artists aka The Barnstormers over 20 years ago, and now they’re a faded and falling down group of buildings that are just a small fraction of the original works. Meet 'Curt', a fearsome looking raptor but really quite friendly once you get to know him. He was named after Curt Blanchette, who did maintenance on all of the assorted dinos in Drumheller. Speaking of which, congrats to Drumheller and the Jurassic Jamboree yesterday! The town invited people to come visit and dress up in a dino costume. They were hoping to break the old record of 252 people dressed up as dinos and it appears they smashed it! Official results won't be known for a while but judging by the pictures it looks certain they did it. My only regret is that I wasn't there.
