✨ Verona Day Trip ✨ During our trip to Venice, we took a day trip to Verona. This was probably one of my highlights during the whole week in Italy. You can get a direct train from Venice Santa Lucia train station to Verona Porta Nuova train station. The train journey is around one hour and 30 minutes. You can buy your train tickets on the Trainline app, which is around £20 pounds per person for a return ticket. 📍Verona Arena This is one of the main highlights of Verona. The Roman amphitheatre is one of the best preserved structures of its kind and dates back to 30 AD. You can go inside the arena for approx £14 each. 📍Ristorante Pizzeria La Costa in Bra For lunch, we went to Ristorante Pizzeria La Costa in Bra. This is situated in the main square of Verona, Piazza Brà. It was a fantastic area to people watch and admire the backdrop of the amphitheatre. They do amazing pizza and a spritz. 📍Juliet’s House We visited Juliet’s House. This site is believed to have inspired William Shakespeare’s legendary tale of Romeo and Juliet. It is free to enter the courtyard and view Juliet’s balcony. When there, you can buy a little heart shaped lock in the shop for 5 euro and place it on the love lock fence. This was a cute little activity to do. 📍Ponte Pietra and Castel San Pietro I highly recommend that you walk up to Castel San Pietro via the Ponte Pietra Bridge. This is a lovely walk through Verona Town and then over the Ponte Pietra bridge. The walk is not for the faint-hearted, as you will have to climb up 231 steps. However, it is definitely worth the view at the top. 📍Osteria Scudo di Francia We dined al fresco at a little restaurant off the beaten track named Osteria Scudo di Francia.We took the plunge and tried something that we had never tried before. Bigoli with donkey ragu. The dish was tasty but I would give it an average score of 6/10. 21-24, March 2024, pt. 1 Leaving the seaside… probably won’t see the sea for at least 5 weeks. From Burgas, decided to try out the “ancient” Bulgarian 🚂 for the first time - to Plovdiv since its departure time was more agreeable than 🚌. Takes about 40 minutes longer than 🚌, but about 30-40% less. Plenty of heat and most of the time, I was able to have the “cabin” to myself. Ticket comes with a seat number, but can freely take any free spot. The second city of 🇧🇬, Plovdiv is nestled in seven hills. Numerous Roman ruins are showcased, exposed, and incorporated throughout its streets. Its charming old town and seemingly more airy environment was much more inviting than Sofia. The main attractions are the old town, lined with wooden houses, and Ancient Theatre of Philippopolis (there’s also a stadium of the same name). Make sure to wear a comfy shoe for the hilly, stony streets. Booked a modern flat “ Greenview house” via Booking.com in a recently gutted construction within a walking distance to Bunardzhika Hill for 4 nights = $200.

Yesterday we went to the #beaujolaiscountryside to visit a #winery and tasted some of what they produce. Not being a great lover of red wine and still fighting this intestinal bug I liked the “palate cleansing” homemade bread! Beautiful area! We are in Vienne and all I’ve seen so far is the pharmacy right down the street. Hoping to do a little look around since there is a #romanamphitheatre and a #romantheater. Btw, no matter how many Euros offer to bribe the pharmacist they will not give you antibiotics. May have to see a doctor on Monday since there is no way I can make 15 hours of flying in this condition! I’m calling it #napoleonsrevenge!

I've decided to make a small series of posts on my trip to Jordan a couple of years back🏜😊 I will have some hiking posts in between, but will get to the next parts of the story again soon🏞 I started my journey by flying to Amman🛩, and took a taxi to a little hotel in the city center, opposite to the huge Roman Amphitheatre🚕 I booked the hotel based on price (cheap) and I would definitely advice against it - it looked more like a construction site😅 A day in Amman was first on my list, and next - a bus trip to Petra🤩 After a pretty sad breakfast, I crossed the road to explore the Amphitheatre🏛 Before visiting Jordan, I pre-bought a ticket called the ‘Jordan pass’, which includes entrance to many attractions, e.g Petra, Amman Amphitheatre, and Amman Citadel🎟 The amphitheatre is pretty cool; you can walk up the steps to get a nice view of the city🌇 I prefer to discover new places on foot, which is what I did here😅 My next stop was Amman Citadel⛰️ It’s probably the most visited place in Amman, although it was still quite empty. Often, tourists go to Petra straight away, not seeing much of the capital🏙 It’s a bit of a hike up, but the Citadel has the best views of the city😍 One of the things I wanted to do during that day was picking up my bus tickets to Petra🚍 (JETT bus leaves Amman at 6.30 am and it takes 4 airconditioned hours to get there) So, I made the trip to JETT office a part of my sightseeing walk, moving west of the Citadel🧭 Here was a very nice area, with several cute cafes, where I had a bite to eat☕️ On the way, I checked out the huge King Abdullah I Mosque. Entering via the tourist gate, I got a mandatory black robe to put over my clothes🕌 After picking up my tickets, I got to the area which was pretty different to the other parts of the city – there was a huge mall (Abdali Mall) with lots of cafes and shops, and a lovely walking shop street next to it😮 That pretty much concluded my day, as it was dark when I left the mall and walked back to my hotel🌆 Early next morning, I was at the bus stop and set on a journey to Petra… To be continued… 🏜🏜🏜 #jordan #amman #adventure #ammancitadel #roman #romanamphitheatre

Located near the Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière are the ancient Roman amphitheatre and Odeon of Lyon, or Lugdunum as it was known in Roman times. They were abandoned after the fall of Rome and transformed into a quarry and heavily damaged, and then completely buried in in the Middle Ages.
