Herbal Snapshot - Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus, Rosmarinus officinalis) is one of my favorite herbs. This plant can grow quite large in some areas and has a somewhat resinous aroma, reminiscent of evergreens. While mostly known for its culinary uses, Rosemary makes an excellent tea for respiratory issues, especially when blended with thyme. Pro tip: Steep Rosemary in freshly boiled water and inhale the steam. Once cooled sufficiently, drink the tea. This can help soothe nasal and sinus passages, as well as ease coughing. Infuse oil with Rosemary for a gently warming massage oil. I personally like to blend it with lavender and rosemary for extra benefit. You can even use this as the base for a warming lotion, too. Rosemary is one of our favorite plants. Dried, it makes a great all-purpose incense for purification, clearing, and sanctification. Recognizing the protective properties of this magic herb, ancient Romans bordered their gardens with rosemary, and in medieval Europe, a fresh sprig under the bed was used to ward off bad dreams and evil spirits (& fleas!). Mixed with lavender, roses, and mugwort it makes a great dream pillow, or use the leaves to stuff a poppet meant for healing. In addition to protection, rosemary has a long history in both funerary rites and love magic. In France, the herb was placed in the hands of the dead. In England, because people believed that rosemary strengthened memory and its leaves are evergreen, it was the herb of remembrance and was used to help retain the memory of a love from which one was parted, or to remember the beloved dead. In ancient Greece, students sniffed rosemary to help with their studies, and recent research shows that exposure to compounds absorbed from this herb's aroma (1,8 cineole) has a positive linear relationship with cognitive performance. We love it when modern scientific methods prove out what our ancient forebearers already knew! Over the past few years, we've sprouted rosemary several times but have only had limited success growing this wonderfully fragrant herb, which is quite finicky. However, this year we tried it in our countertop hydroponic garden, the same system we've used to start henbanes, and it's doing great! We started the seeds at the end of March and just transplanted it into soil a few days ago. From its tiny first true leaves, this versatile plant ally has smelled amazing, and we love to bury our noses in it every time we walk by! Apotekare Sjöbloms burkar: När Pesten spred sig 1710 förordade Collegium medicum (den tidens namn på Medicinalstyrelsen) rökning av rum med rosmarin och flera andra aromatiska örter. Rökning av inomhusmiljöer med antingen väldoftande eller illaluktande medel användes både av de tidiga läkarna och av kloka gummor för att röka ut smitta eller mota bort ont. Tillägget officinalis i det som fram till 2017 var det latinska namnet, Rosmarinus officinalis, signalerar att det rör sig om en läkeväxt som förvisso lika ofta använts för väldoft eller -smak. Numera klassas den som en salvia och har i stället fått det namnet Salvia rosmarinus. Den härstammar från klippig kust i Medelhavsområdet vilket speglas i namnet Rosmarin som genom latinets ord för dagg och hav blir ungefär ”havsdagg”. Det finns inga riktiga källor som visar att grekerna tillskrev växten minnesförstärkande egenskaper som ofta påstås. Men minst sedan 1500-talet har rosmarin brukats och omskrivits som ”minnesört” och inte utan fog. Det finns forskning som tyder på att doftämnen i rosmarin kan ha en hämmande effekt på nedbrytningen av signalsubstansen acetylkolin vid inandning. Rosmarin har använts bland annat mot ledbesvär och huvudvärk, som välgörande för magen och för huden. Y qué mejor que hacerlo tu misma (o tu artesana de confianza‼️) 😉 El hidrolato de Romero, 𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘢 𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘴 o 𝘙𝘰𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘴 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴, es la base perfecta para un 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝘀, pues aleja los mosquitos. Puedes hacerlo con alcohol o sin él y potenciarlo con otros aceites esenciales repelentes como lavanda, lemongrass, citronella.. Les rosquilles de la mare. Les rosquilles són unes petites preparacions que es feien, normalment, amb els excedents de l’elaboració de la massa del pa. Habitualment les fem a casa coincidint amb la Setmana Santa però les pots fer en qualsevol moment. Les trobaràs al blog, des del 2012, a la pestanya receptes. Un dels dolços més representatius de casa. Aquest va ser inicialment el propòsit del blog recollir les receptes familiars com aquesta que tant agrada. Descobreix, si vols, com el romaní, va acompanyar a les rosquilles en un Fòrum gastronòmic a @galiciaforumgastronomico i també l’ @anis_del_mono un dels ingredients per preparar-les. Fa pocs dies, vaig anar a Badalona i vaig fer una foto de l’escultura del mono, obra de l’artista @susanaruizblanch ,situada al Passeig Marítim i al peu del Pont del Petroli, representativa de l’ @anis_del_mono molt a prop de la fàbrica modernista de l’Anís del mono i diria un dels símbols de la ciutat. L’Anís del mono és un licor anisat, una beguda i l’ingredient en algunes preparacions de postres tradicionals i, el “secret” d’un plat de la cuina catalana, també, des de la vesant artística al blog per anar més lluny. A partir de ese año, se llegó a la conclusión que compartía ADN con las salvias, por lo que se cambió la monenclatura para esta especie, pasando a denominarse Salvia rosmarinus, aunque Rosmarinus officinalis ha quedado como sinónimo de Romero. 🌿 En la Antigua Grecia se creía que el Romero fortalecía el cerebro y refrescaba la memoria. 🫨 Hoy en día, sabemos que entre sus propiedades podemos destacar que es antiinflamatorio, por eso resulta excelente las friegas con alcohol de Romero cuando duelen las articulaciones; es antiespasmódico, calma los espasmos musculares; es carminativo, nos ayuda a calmar y expulsar los gases del tubo digestivo; es colerético, o colagogo, es decir, ayuda a que el hígado segregue bilis; siendo también hepatoprotector. A nivel tópico es antibiótico, cicatrizante, antiséptico, tonificante, relajante, tonificante y regenerante. 🦠 Como todo en la vida, siempre hay que tener en cuenta las contraindicaciones. ROSMARINO Rosmarino officinalis - Labiate Arbusto perenne, sempreverde e cespuglioso (1.5-3 m), inizialmente prostrato e poi eretto e molto ramificato, ha numerose foglie verde scuro nella pagina superiore e argentate in quella inferiore, piccole, strette, di forma lineare. I fiori, presenti per buona parte dell'anno, sono di un bel colore azzurro-violetto riuniti in grappoli ascellari. La fioritura si protrae, in pratica, per tutto l'anno. Tipica pianta mediterranea, allo stato spontaneo é presente solo nella fascia costiera, ma viene coltivato in tutta Italia come aromatica. Ricco di olio essenziale (pinene, canforene, limonene), il rosmarino é stimolante, Tonico, stomachino, antispasmodico, eupeptico. Der Rosmarin blüht das erste Mal und die Insekten stehen drauf. Ich freue mich, dass der milde Winter dazu geführt hat, dass dieses Mal auch ein Pflänzchen besser überlebt hat und in die Blüte ging. Ich liebe den Geruch von Rosmarin, nicht nur in Kosmetika und Seifen (die selbst gemachte Seife mit Kaffee, Rosmarin und Ziegenmilch und auch die Rosmarin-Schafgarbe-Orange Ziegenmilchseifen alles Eigenkreationen waren damals toll), sondern auch in der Küche. Mit diesem frisch geernteten Frühlings-Bouquet habe ich heute meinen Eltern zum Hochzeitstag gratuliert. Das ist wohl die letzte Tulpenernte für dieses Jahr, denn durch das sommerliche Wetter dieses und letztes Wochenende sind sie unheimlich schnell und fast alle gleichzeitig aufgeblüht. Zum ersten Mal dagegen habe ich heute Anemonen geerntet. Sie sind ein kleines Experiment, weil ich davor noch nie welche angebaut habe und ich sie aus Platzgründen im letzten Herbst in einen großen Kübel im Hof pflanzen musste.
