I came to the San Buenaventura City Hall today to deposit batteries for recycling. I could have gone to a variety of other drop-off locations, but I love visiting this old building. It was built in 1912 and originally served as the Ventura County Courthouse until 1968. It was a place that inspired the imagination of local lawyer-turned-author, Erle Stanley Gardner, who wrote the Perry Mason detective novels in the 1930s.
