Transformation Tuesday! I think it's a common question when someone sees a light painting photo to wonder if it's all photoshopped. The answer, for me at least, is that it's mostly in camera with a bit of photoshop for the final edit. I usually shoot these in the dark with a black background but often the backdrop isn't wide enough so I have to clean up the background a bit. I also sometimes adjust the shape of the painting to be a bit more symmetrical, like I did here. If you get down low it makes them seem bigger, more powerful, or makes their jumps look even higher. And for this shot my client brought a gymnastics mat to the studio which was folded up. Her daughter did a series of leaps from the slightly higher mat while I was down low so it emphasizes her height. Light painting is a passion of mine and I'm excited to be bringing this to my clients soon as well.
