LIF Residency | Human Geographies in Action. 📐Within the framework of the LIF Residency | Human Geographies the research project "Hidden Tales'' by artists @irini_ampoumogli and Matina Pangalou is an ongoing project focusing on femininity, inspired by "Veggera", an impromptu social practice—particularly prevalent in the Cyclades—organized mainly by women. Through veggeres, the community shares stories and rituals of everyday life, maintaining at its core the primal need for communication and interaction. 🗜The artists-in-residence , within a broader framework, explored the character of "veggera", conducted interviews with women from the local community, creatively processed the stories told, and attempted to delve into the stories that were silenced. 🔷The project "Hidden Tales" aims to create an experiential experience based on recordings and interviews conducted during their residency in Sikinos. _________________________________________ The action was implemented by NPO Creative Islands, under the auspices of the Municipality of Sikinos and with a donation from: Athina I. LIF Residency | Human Geographies in Action. ➰What happens when contemporary sculpture and digital art meet? ⚒The collaborative project " The Game" between @zafeiriathanasopoulou, a multidisciplinary visual artist who focuses on nature and the human condition, and @yiorgosdrosos , who works at the intersection of art and technology, represents yet another innovative project developed under the LIF Residency | Human Geographies. ♟With a common ground in the natural and anthropogenic environment of Sikinos, the two artists attempted to explore and determine what happens when artists of different genders and artistic backgrounds collaborate, exchange ideas, and produce results that characterise situations of either competitive or collaborative interdependence. ⚰The result of this process was the creation of a series of sculptural works from natural materials, enhanced by the incorporation of everyday objects and the use of digital media such as digital photography, video, three-dimensional scanning, and geolocation, strengthening the interaction between the natural and digital worlds. _________________________________________ The action was implemented by Creative Islands, under the auspices of the Municipality of Sikinos and with a donation from: Athina I. 𝗡𝗟💙 Sikinos is een typisch Grieks, authentiek en rustig eilandje gelegen tussen Ios en Folegandros in de Cycladen. Het is een 42 km² groot, dor eiland met zo'n 280 inwoners. Sikinos-stad is verdeeld in 2 delen: Kastro en het mooie onbedorven middeleeuwse Chora op de rotsen. In de oudheid stond het eiland bekend als een Oinoe (wijneiland). Er zijn verschillende zandstranden in baaitjes. Het eiland is een paradijs voor wandelaars, er zijn verschillende wandelroutes op oude paden. De eilandbewoners produceren honing, olijfolie en wijn. 𝗙𝗥💙 Sikinos est un îlot typiquement grec, authentique et tranquille, situé entre Ios et Folegandros. C'est une île aride de 42 km² qui recense 280 habitants. La ville de Sikinos est divisée en deux parties : Kastro et la belle Chora médiévale préservée sur les rochers. Dans l'Antiquité, l'île était connue sous le nom d'Oinoe (île du vin). Il y a plusieurs plages de sable dans des criques. L'île est un paradis pour les randonneurs ; il y a plusieurs sentiers de randonnée sur d'anciens chemins. As part of the LIF Residency | Human Geographies, the artistic group The New Liquidity ( Anders Ehlin & Selma Boskailo) with their evolving project Deterritorialized Listenings spend two weeks in Sikinos conducting field research through interviews, walking recordings, as well as visits to landmarks of neighboring islands (Ios - Santorini). Additionally, they delve deeper into their research through structured meetings with anthropologist and filmmaker Dimitris Bouras @dimbouras , creator of the documentary "Being an Islander", who shared his recent anthropological research on the theme of insularity and what defines island identities in the Eastern Mediterranean. Το καλλιτεχνικό έργο“The Path of Honey" των φιλοξενούμενων καλλιτεχνών Κατερίνα Μαρκουλάκη @cath_ki και Φωτεινή Κητιάνη @fotini_kiti διαμορφώθηκε μέσα από ένα ταξίδι επιτόπιων αποστολών και ερευνητικών δραστηριοτήτων σε συνεργασία με γυναίκες που καταπιάνονται με τη μελισσοκομία. Οι καλλιτέχνιδες για 15 ημέρες πειραματίστηκαν με εικαστικές δραστηριότητες, κινηματογράφησαν, έψαξαν, βρήκαν και δοκίμασαν απαντήσεις σε ερωτήματα για τη γυναίκα, την εργασία, τα οικοσυστήματα, τη φύση και τη συνύπαρξη των ανθρώπινων και μη ανθρώπινων κοινοτήτων. Το πρότζεκτ"The Path of Honey" αποσκοπεί να δημιουργήσει μια υβριδική φιλμική εμπειρία των αλληλεπιδράσεων με τις γυναίκες μελισσοκόμους της Σικίνου. _______________________________________________________ The artistic project "The Path of Honey" by residency artists Katerina Markoulaki and Fotini Kitiani was developed through a research journey of field expeditions and research activities in collaboration with women engaged in beekeeping. For 15 days, the artists filmed, searched, found, and tested answers to questions about women, labor, ecosystems, nature, and the coexistence of human and non-human communities.
