🇹🇷 ▪︎Η Βασιλική Κινστέρνα είναι η μεγαλύτερη υπόγεια δεξαμενή νερού που κατασκευάστηκε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη με διαστάσεις περίπου 141μ × 66,5 μ. στην κάτοψη και χωρητικότητας 78.000 m3. ▪︎Βρίσκεται στον πρώτο λόφο της πόλης, περίπου 150 μέτρα νοτιοδυτικά της Αγίας Σοφίας, στην περιοχή Σουλτάναχμέτ επί του ιστορικού κέντρου. ▪︎Ονομάστηκε έτσι λόγω της θέσης της, κάτω από τη Βασιλική Στοά που βρισκόταν δυτικά του Αυγουσταίου. ▪︎Η Στοά χτίστηκε πιθανώς από τον Μεγάλο Κωνσταντίνο αλλά καταστράφηκε περίπου το 475. ▪︎Η κινστέρνα διαμορφώθηκε ως έχει σήμερα, όταν ξαναχτίστηκε γύρω στο 542 μ. Χ. από τον αυτοκράτορα Ιουστινιανό Α', μετά την περίοδο της στάσης του Νίκα, για την ύδρευση της Κωνσταντινούπολης σε ολόκληρη τη βυζαντινή περίοδο και για να προμηθεύει νερό στο παρακείμενο Μέγα Παλάτιον, όπου είχε την έδρα του ο βυζαντινός αυτοκράτορας. ▪︎Ήταν ένα από τα σημαντικότερα δημόσια έργα του Ιουστινιανού και εξαίρετο δείγμα βυζαντινής μηχανικής. ▪︎Μετά την κατάκτηση της πόλης από τους Οθωμανούς, φαίνεται πως χάθηκε η γνώση για την κινστέρνα, η οποία όμως ανακαλύφθηκε αργότερα από τον Pierre Gilles κατά την περιήγησή του στην Κωνσταντινούπολη στα μέσα του 16ου αιώνα. ▪︎Ο Gilles περιγράφει πως οι κάτοικοι δεν είχαν γνώση της ύπαρξης της δεξαμενής, παρά το γεγονός πως αντλούσαν νερό και έπιαναν ψάρια ρίχνοντας κουβάδες στα υπόγεια των σπιτιών τους. ▪︎Μετά την Άλωση της Κωνσταντινούπολης, το νερό της Βασιλικής Κινστέρνας χρησιμοποιούνταν για την άρδευση των κήπων στο Παλάτι του Τοπ Καπί. ▪︎Από τον 18ο και μέχρι τα μέσα του 20ου αιώνα, πραγματοποιήθηκαν έργα αναστήλωσης για τη διατήρηση της κινστέρνας, η οποία μετά από ανακαίνιση, που ξεκίνησε το 1985, είναι από το 1987 ανοιχτή στο ευρύ κοινό και συνιστά ένα από τους σπουδαιότερους και παλαιότερους δημόσιους χώρους. ▪︎Στο χώρο της, με την εξαιρετική ακουστική, δίνονται μουσικά κοντσέρτα. 🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸️🔸 #turkey #istanbul #cinsterna #bazilika #constantinopole #explore #water #explore #travel #greecestagram #instatravel #traveler #travelling #travelphoto #travelphotography #photography #travelgram #trip #picoftheday #beautifuldestination #igdaily #igers
