A little update on plans for 2024. January is all about planning, well in reality most planning should start before but hey life happens. So whats being planned for 2024?. *EVENTS* - i am actually looking to do less! The reason being i really want to bring out some new collections and the only way to do that is to protect some workshop time. So- * i have signed up for WOS @warwickshireopenstudios , not sure yet in what capacity i shall exhibit but i will be present somehow. * @aitpleamington - myself and a couple of artists are exploring options to apply to exhibit again this year and will update you when i know more. Love this event so really keen to be part of it again as @rugbyartistsandmakers * I am looking at all venues i exhibited in last year and despite what i said at the beginning i will try to get to as many as possible as i love meeting my customers and other makers. See already wavering in my intent to do less 😂🤣. * I shall also be back in @thenestrugby and hopefully also @artatthealex *WEBSITE* - Well the aim for the next two days is to update my pages and ensure the shop opens with some special offers for January. - Its also really important for me to ensure the website is a great place to visit and build on the information, and also a page for compiling your reviews of my work ( love getting your feedback). Now we all know that computer work isnt my strong point and literally anything! Will distract me from doing it but i shall do my best. *GROWTH* - This kinda relates to me, ensuring i put aside time for creativity, space to think and work. It's ok to talk openly. Even in social media world. In recent weeks I have read a lot about how this is a ‘quiet time’ for freelancers, both on here and over on LinkedIn. Some agree, some disagree. I have also seen an increase in posts in which freelancers of all industries talk about their struggles at different times of their working lives and the working year. It feels topical. And that is brilliant. Honesty and the ability to release your feelings, even if only through your keyboard, should be a part of everyone's life. And so, I decided that number 6 in this mini-series will not shy away from truth. I admit I considered it should maybe come later…like number 3…people don’t want to dwell on negatives on Instagram do they? On a scheduled Sunday morning post! I’ve come across relatively chirpy with all my smiley pictures so far! Will people worry about me?! But then I had a little word with myself. I’ve worked pastorally all my career. I know when people need a hug. Kids and adults. So if I can use my writing skills to just generate a bit of reflection within the insane world that is social media then so be it. Freelancing is amazing. Satisfying in different ways to anything I’ve experienced. But it is consuming. I know I need processes in place to ensure my working week is in order. Scheduling, time away from the screen each day, early morning quiet hours of silence. You have to find what works for you. This post contains my honest thoughts and hopefully they resonate with some of you that read this far. It is not designed to be preachy in any way. It's a great question. A fair one too. After all, if I'm going to write for you, whether that's a Blog, Bio or About Me section, you'd like to think I can mirror your voice, right? Well I can. And I love doing it. But what is the trick to mirroring a client's brand voice when only meeting them hours before on a Zoom call? A: I learn your Language. I scour your website and social media, I listen back to our meeting and pick up on your love, passion and identity. I take notes. Lots of them. Your repetition. Your casual expressions. It's a winning formula for replicating an authentic version of you when I write. That's all before I even think titles or SEO. For me, my absolute priority when writing for your business, is getting the voice absolutely spot on. It starts there.
The power of a morning routine. For me, these are essential to my feelings for the rest of the day. Especially number 1. Balancing family and working life is never simple and there will always be unpredictability. But if we can find some control in the first hours of our day, even if it means getting up that little bit earlier, I believe in the benefits it provides. As soon as I started working for myself and spending significantly more time staring at a screen, ensuring the first light to hit my eyes was natural light became non-negotiable. I am habitual. My routine. My food. My exercise and my rest. When you know what works for you and your body, why change that?
I always hated appraisal, annual reviews, however you like to dress them up. But I love Company Day, which is essentially the same thing for the self employed. Just with added lunch. And a cocktail. It’s still about reviewing the year gone by and setting goals for the year ahead. But these goals are considerably more motivating! For the purists, I appreciate some of these are not technically SMART goals. What can I say? Did you do it? All five? I hope you did, you should have done it in no time at all! Your business is brilliant, remember. We forget sometimes though, don't we. Or at least we forget to say these things out loud. I'm not a business coach or anything, but I know that you should acknowledge your USPs and be proud to shout about the awesome aspects of your business. It's my job to ask these questions and make sure your answers are all obvious to your customers. In black and white. We can get so swept up in SEO and keywords, we complicate the message of our brand. That's what I'm here for. The line between creative, conversational fun and Google ranking can be a tricky one to balance. I'd be happy to help.

Entrepreneur Confession time… I have a love/hate relationship with Customer Service Correspondence. Don't get me wrong, I love my customers and I love providing excellent customer service. It's one of the things I get 5-star reviews on all of the time. It's not the ACTUAL customer service that bothers me, it's daily inquiries answering the SAME questions over and over again that are CLEARLY stated in my product description that gets frustrating. If you’re anything like me, that daily task can get overwhelming and frustrating at times when I feel like I have 1000 things to do in a day and have to keep answering the same questions over and over again on literally the first things I state in my product description.
