Almost exactly a year ago I completed my first half marathon at this same course. To come back to where this passion of running started and complete a 30 mile race feeling strong and pain free was a pretty surreal feeling. “DarkStar Rising” Moab, Utah, USA 17 September 2020 Whenever I start looking through the pictures I captured during this period in my life, I almost always feel the need to revisit this one. I have pry edited it four or five times now, and at this point I don’t know if there is much more I can make happen with the original photos I captured in 2020. I’ve learned a lot about how to photograph the night since this series was captured, but that doesn’t really help me with these older images. The only changes I can make are in my editing process. The lighting on the scene was provided by my brother using a drone. We weren’t in a National Park, and we were allowed to fly a drone where we were shooting. The subject standing on the rock is me. Well, a younger, thinner version of me. This image was captured the same night as the one I shared yesterday. It remains as one of my all-time favorite images I have shot, as it really captures a moment in my life. I was still an amateur at the time, but I was motivated to learn. I was also too stubborn to listen to anyone trying to tell me that I was crazy. #MTDarkStar

My ribs are no longer clicking together when I lean forward. 👊🏼 Still a little sore though as well as my back and neck. Range of motion on my neck is about 95%. My hamstring is still a little twitchy and doesn’t seem to like going uphill, I mean my entire body never liked going uphill so… 😜 Today I got back out on the bike for a short ride. Another big week of training in the books, running 72 miles total. We are just 20 days away from the @ogdenmarathon and I am really excited! . This last week I finally broke out my Saucony Endorphin Pro Elite's as I had a workout where I mimic race day as much as possible. My goal was to run 12 miles and average somewhere between 6:20 and 6:30 pace. I knew there was going to be some variables due to the uneven terrain I was running. While I gave it my best effort, it wasn't quite what I was looking for, as I averaged a 6:36 pace for my 12 miles. I'm hoping with some rested legs and the race day atmosphere, the stars will align and we'll get a new PR in the half marathon. . Saturday we had our Ogden Marathon Running Club group run. Since I had already done my long run for the week, I was able to relax and enjoy some easy miles with friends. I always enjoy my time running with friends and making new friends as well. The scenery on the Ogden River Parkway was on point too! It was so green and lovely! . Next week my mileage drops back into the high 50 mile range. This is probably a good thing for me as I'm dealing with a little bit of a sore right knee. NM SITE 29 (Part 2), UT. Some of the busier parts of this awesome site. Some of you have mentioned you see a timeline or map, alluding to the idea that this is one singular themed panel created by a single person, which I disagree with. There are way too many different styles depicted here to make me think one person made all of this. Though the majority of these glyphs are likely from the Fremont Culture, the window of time within that culture is quite vast (around 1100 years between 400-1500 CE). This could have been added to over centuries, by different generations of people who didn’t even know each other. One thing to consider when looking at ancient imagery is that no matter how much you think you understand it, you can never be certain that your interpretation aligns with what these images were meant to represent by their creators. Anyone who tells you they know what it all means is kidding themselves. They’re letting their ego get in front of the imagery. Theories are important in the practice of studying the meaning of ancient rock imagery, but with no real way to prove most of these interpretations, we need to accept that it’s all just guessing in the end.
