Huzzah! It’s Monday once again, and I’ve clearly been watching too much Arrested Development (Tobias… anyone?) 😆 ⠀ If you’re also feeling like this weekend went wayyyy to quickly and that you didn’t get all the things done your brain wanted you to - because hello! - life tends to throw 💩 at you like a chimpanzee in a cage, well - you ain’t alone sister. ⠀ Just on here to say it’s OK you didn’t finish your current project before the deadline. It’s OK that you couldn’t make it to the gym or that your house looks like Earl blew through it. How I wish I wasn’t wearing stuffy work clothes right now and I was into one of these comfy ensembles 😭😫 ⠀ Buuuuuut it’s once again Monday and that means back to the grind! 👏 ⠀ Even though my business is still very new and I’m hustling 7 days a week it seems - the “grind” doesn’t particularly shut itself off over the weekend. Especially while still juggling a 9-5! Any other 9-5ers out there feel me?! 🙋♀️ ⠀ In this season of my initial launch and throwing myself into side-hustle mode when 5pm hits during the weekday, I almost feel guilty if I don’t dedicate my full weekend into the biz. In fact, I’m constantly thinking about it; whether it be figuring out new ideas and plans or coming up with my next reel post - it never turns off! ⠀ And honestly? That feeling of guilt when I try to shut myself off from “boss-babe-mode” during the two days a week I have to myself to relax & regenerate isn’t what side-hustling is about. ⠀ Being present for my family while being able to put my phone - and my mind - away for a few hours on a Saturday is what’s going to give myself the “reset” I need so I can come back mentally stronger to tackle my business projects and tasks. ⠀ While my mind is racing a million miles a minute with social media strategies and content ideas - my heart is longing for the connection with my lil’ fam at home. 👫🐕❤️ ⠀ 〰 ⠀ Did you take time away from your biz this past weekend or will be striving to do so on a regular basis? This picture was when my childhood dream came true - seeing my name in print for the first time. But I had no idea how difficult following your dream would actually be. Although I am now a published writer of many years, when I first decided to pursue journalism, I didn’t have any relevant qualifications. I had to spend years proving that I was capable. It’s actually the reason I started my blog Inspired in the City - to prove I can write. I fought so many critics and jealous competitors that made me question whether I should just give up. But I’m SO GLAD I persevered. The biggest lessons I have learned have been about handling criticism, using what is in your power and finding your own solutions to challenges. It’s a really difficult thing to do when you’re constantly being pushed down. That’s why we need to hear more stories like this. There is someone who can relate and who has come out the other side - so you can too. Someone asked me the other day if I was a life coach … And I said, “Not really … “But when you own your own business, it affects everything in your life.” And today I realized the reverse of that is also true: When you DON’T own your own business, THAT affects everything in your life, too! How you spend your time … how much you make … your tasks … the people you work with … your environment … They either add positive energy to your life, or detract from it. And you have little to no say over any of it! Work becomes something you have to endure, rather than something you ENJOY … And that carries over into the rest of your life: • home life • friendships • extended family • hobbies • sleep • nutrition & wellness • energy If you’re one of the lucky few who has a job they love, I’m truly happy for you! 🙌 But if you, like me, were stuck in a low paying, dead end job, surrounded by fake people in a toxic environment … You may not see or believe in your true worth any more. It is far greater than your paycheck, I can promise you that! ❤️ I carried the weight of other people’s opinions long after I got fired … from a job I accidentally got and didn’t even want! 🥴 And it really made it hard for me to be confident enough to move in a more positive direction! The only way out of that muck was to TAKE ACTION … Whether I felt I was capable or not! What I learned by DOING it was that the online business world embraced what my former employer rejected! And that I could trust mySELF to provide for my personal & financial well-being … So if your current or former job has you down & doubting, PLEASE recognize that you are worth SO much more! 🥰 Don’t be fooled by the false self who has to make everyone ELSE happy … And take a step into your authentic self. It is where freedom starts. It’s where you can thrive - in EVERY aspect of your life!
