We are so excited to be bringing home 3 GOLD SEALS from state this year! The state entered 31,000 pieces of artwork at the regional level, and out of those, 2,134 were selected to move ahead qualifying them for State VASE (UIL). Of the 2,134 the judges selected 151 pieces that stood out above them all and gifted them a State Gold Seal. The artwork that was selected will start a tour around our amazing state before returning back to the artist next year. College Park Fine Arts also received 11 state medals which went to students who received a perfect score. “hard to choose” oil pastel, watercolor pencils, sharpie, graphite, colored pencils I got a hundred bucks by making this!! I did a 2d scholarship workshop at my state art competition and ended up getting fourth place in division two, getting me a $100 scholarship :) We were given an hour and very limited supplies in order to create something to a prompt given to us at the beginning of the workshop. The prompt for this was “Duality.” So, I decided to go for a devil/angel on your shoulder type of motif. I wanted to show show it feels like you’re splitting at the seams when you have internal conflict. One side could be completely happy, one not. One urging you to say yes, one begging you to say no. I kind of experienced this myself watching some of my friends receive their gold seals and then not getting one myself. Being so excited and happy for all of them yet being confused and upset at the same time. “reverse” 15.5”x22” acrylic, oil pastels, fine liner pens, newspaper clippings, mod podge I made this in like an hour at state VASE! I was in a Basquiat workshop and kinda just went crazy :) This isn’t very Basquiat looking but the point of the workshop was using lots of different mediums and such. The point of this piece was to kind of show how we can’t go back on decisions we make. Especially those made by people in power in the world. didn’t get the gold but I did get a hundred bucks! VASE was a great experience! I’m a little disappointed I didn’t get a gold seal but that just means I’ll work harder to get one next year. I’m super proud of all of my friends who won them though!! I did end up getting $100 from a scholarship workshop. We were given the prompt “Duality” and an hour to work with limited supplies. I also got to do some mixed media in a Basquiat workshop :)) Other than the event itself, this trip was awesome. I loved hanging out with my friends and goofing off around Waco.
