BOOK NOW INTAGLIO CLUB May 11th session You might have heard of Fps’s wonderful Lino Club? Intaglio Club for printmaking methods that require a different approach- drypoint and collograph to be precise. (Acid etching will not be undertaken in these sessions). This is for those who already have at least a little experience in these processes. You need to bring along your own project to work on. These are not teaching sessions, instead, they are supervised sessions, where an experienced supervisor is on hand to assist and provide valuable advice. You need to bring your own printmaking tools, plate to work on, ink and print paper. We do sell paper and ink in our office. We supply newsprint for proofing, presses for use, press blankets, and solutions and rags for cleanup. Remember to wear an apron and closed toed shoes. Before leaving at the end of the day we ask participants to clean and sanitise their workstation, incl bench top, press wheels and any shared tools. Day NINE of my research residency at U of T! A little preview of the new wood block I laser etched today! Really looking forward to printing this. I spent 3 hours drawing this morning and then felt so excited I had to laser cut it right away. Definitely struggled a bit with it though. The laser started smoking a lot half way through 🙃 (it ended up being fine, but nerve wracking). Then I tried a new technique to bring out the wood grain with shellac, but the plate warped really bad through the process. The plate is now glued to MDF and drying over night. On the table No.71 Though I should have to create works that are more committed to the times and society. Even if it's a hard-to-understand, smug metaphor. I always feel that way, but in the end, I never get tired of facing the same motif. However, my attitude makes me confused when I have to decide on the title of the work. What on earth is this? At such times, this is the title that is pulled out of my brain storage. So I hope this title makes you chuckle and think, "This printmaker is pretty much trapped.” This hand-pulled photogravure print used for Charbonnel Black 55981, Warm Sepia, and a dash of Sanguine inks on Awagami, Kitakata-Select paper. From the Beta Press Collection @tacomaartmuseum Fay Jones 'Peplem/Locusts' 1997 Color soft ground and spit bite aquatint Printed by Marcia Bartholme Not only were there colour proofs and state proofs to dive into to follow the path of this print being created, there was also the sheet the artist drew on to lift the soft-ground off the copper plate. I like seeing the mixture of pencil and litho crayon on the Tableau sheet and how that translated to the printed etching to make subtle variety in line texture and line weight. #intaglio #fayjonesart #printmaking #specialcollectionsandarchives

Intaglio monoprints with chine collé. The chine collé paper, Kozo (mulberry) paper, is toned with onion skin dye. I didn’t etch/carve the intaglio plate. These where created by Julie Connell. The plates and a nice press where donated to the print classes by Howard Ikemoto, Julie’s husband, and who our printmaking studio is dedicated too. One of the first things that came in mind when I am looking the work were- the overlapping lines and the 2.5d texture it had. Not only were the lines and colors put together in Six different layers, one might assume- it probably was just a side effect of using so many layers. I say maybe, but no, it's way so orchestrated to be random! On the bottom of the page, a gramophone is depicted with a disk on it, (I will assume it's spinning) but sure has to be some good music. It's rather admirable to see the symbolism in the work, in particular. In the foreground of the gramophone, a creak is flowing with a few items which were probably unlucky enough to fall into the creak. One is a vase which still carries a leafed object, the other is a book with the words "impreccio Y diversio" written in big bold letters and a letter near the vase.. The project was made (roughly) with a rather large amount of imagination and a large amount of questioning the curator!. Quattro anni fa correva il 2020 e, durante il mio anno romano, ho avuto il piacere di conoscere l'opera di un grande artista contemporaneo italiano @pietroruffoartist , all'interno degli spazi della @gallerialorcanoneill Nella mostra Maremoto - Tidal Wave ho potuto osservare tre opere simili a dei murales, soprattutto per le grandi dimensioni. Inquinamento, povertà, accoglienza e diseguaglianza vengono dipinti dall'artista su piastrelle di ceramiche che vogliono omaggiare la tradizione portoghese degli azulejos. Queste opere dal forte carattere sociale, politico e attuale investono chi le osserva, proprio come degli tsunami. Ho voluto cogliere una domanda in questa ricerca artistica: "Quale ereditá vuoi lasciare, tu essere vivente, che come un maremoto vivi in questo mondo tanto bello, quanto brutale?" Parlando di ereditá storica, nella mostra erano presenti anche alcune opere tipiche dell'artista, facenti parte della serie Constellation. La mitologia e la cultura classica antica vengono riscoperte dalla mano di Ruffo che intaglia e dipinge carte geografiche storiche, mappamondi e costellazioni. as i should be i’m feeling more like i’m as i should be without trying too hard. i never thought a lot about how school can be detrimental because i believe getting educated it important. but truth is i found it hard. certainly once school became self motivated that i found it even harder. i found it draining, but i didn’t believe it was the school’s fault, i always interpreted it as something wrong with me. but there’s nothing wrong with me, i’m just taking my time to fully bloom i think. i don’t think i’ve seen the best of myself yet, i certainly hope not. anyways, i love this piece. “As I Should Be” is the manifestation of trying to create a body that works for everyone. it satisfies the self and others. but the concern with perfecting a body for the sake of others is that eventually, the truth comes out and that new form disappears and the body must rebuild. this work is 13x16” with a 9x12” image. all works are for sale. - - - - - #printmaking #print #intaglio #fineart #bfa #selfgrief #selfgrowth #tryingtobevulnerableyall
