Last hockey post I promise… 2023 was a horrible year for me. I took 6 months off from hockey to try to have a baby through IVF. 6 months of trauma to my mind and body with no results. I didn’t care about anything anymore after that. Didn’t wanna go anywhere or do anything. Didn’t care about life anymore. My anxiety was so bad that I didn’t even wanna leave the house. So, I sought some help from my therapist and a psychiatrist. First thing my therapist said to me was “You’ve gotta start playing hockey again.” So I did…slowly, and with the encouragement of my hockey friends, I dragged my butt back into it kicking and screaming at times. And here we are 6 months later, healthy again mentally and physically playing the sport I’ve always loved. Thank you to Dr. Scotty Mcbride for rehabilitating my bad hip and shoulder, my therapist for once again pushing me where I needed to be, my hockey girls who encouraged me to skate again, and most importantly, Max for just being Max. ❤️ #StillGotIt #Sorta 🤣

Today was a full day of parenting - up during the night and morning with a sick kid, spectating a lacrosse game, and then my sick kid needed lots of afternoon snuggles so I put off my workout. Eventually, she was feeling a little more herself, and I headed out to the pool. My body felt great today! My steady paces were good, and my fast paces were solid. At the end of my main set, I did a hard 100m and couldn’t believe my pace considering I’ve only swam a handful of times this year! So, part of the homework from my therapist is noticing right. Well - it's noticing 'what comes up', specifically, but also noticing joy - and I had two interactions at Pak n Save on Friday, joyful, human interactions, and it reminded me how much I feed off the energy of my people and how good it feels. (Not people in general mind, just people I like 🤣). And so I kinda put out to the universe that I wanted my people and hugs and baby snugs, and the universe delivered and on Thursday night the Ds and I stay with Nana in Whangarei, Friday we stay with Granny and Pā in Auckland, and Saturday I get to spend a whole day at Waananga Hapuu ki Waahi Paa in Huntly. Have you heard of Hapu Wānanga? Think antenatal classes that are as Māori as possible within the construct of a colonial system. They're incredible. I met the powerhouse wāhine who birthed this kaupapa through oirmenstrual cup mahi back in Hamilton, and have been invited to hapu waananga in the past to talk reusable menstrual and nappy options. Anyway. Like I said - I put it out to the inverse that I wanted to hug people and sniff babies, the invite came to attend next weekend, and I said 'heck yes!' and then panicked at the rashness of my decision making 🤣🤣🙈 (Swipe for some snaps from my Close Friends stories #PatreonPerk). I spent the day getting ready, I've got printed wash guides, and I'm just so humbled to be welcomed back so enthusiastically. Roadtrip on!
