From around 1970 and 1971 in the NY subway system, an R10 car in the aqua blue and white colors done around 1966 and 1967. They re-painted some of these cars and stayed like that up to when they were repainted in silver and blue. Notice the "HH" rollsign. This photo is out there on the Rockaways at the Playland stop. That amusement park is not there anymore. While in this color paint, the original car boards were on and the numbers were in orange...very unusual. Then when Transit repainted cars to silver and blue, they went over the original numbers by using adhesive numbers instead in a black and white font. No more colorful numbers ran on any cars. Maybe you rode the trains then and remember that also...especially if you took the CC or HH or A train to the Rockaways. Assorted shots of Oheka Castle -- the second largest private residence in the US. Only the Biltmore in Asheville, NC is larger. The present owner, developer Gary Melius, lives in one wing of Oheka. The rest is a luxury hotel now. Originally built in the early 1920s by financier Otto Kahn including the Cold Spring Hills golf course which is active today, as a middle finger to the then ultra wealthy WASP high society who wouldn't allow him to live in their midst in Morristown, NJ, nor join their country clubs because he was a Jew, Kahn hosted many of the most prominent figures in Hollywood and the Arts during the 1920s. Kahn even persuaded the Long Island Railroad to build the Cold Spring Harbor station nearby so Kahn could more easily get to his home from Wall Street in Manhattan. Oheka eventually fell into disuse, abandonment, and decay after Kahn's death, with a stint for many years as the Eastern Military Academy until it too closed down in 1979. Eventually, in 1984, Melius purchased Oheka and after a number of more years of financing complications trying to fulfill his vision totally renovated it at a cost of millions of dollars -- the most expensive private home renovation in US history -- transforming Oheka into what it is today. I made most of these shots black and white in the spirit of the classic movie "Citizen Kane" by Orson Welles, considered by some critics as the greatest film ever made, in which many of the images of Charles Foster Kane's lonely mega-mansion Xanadu were filmed at Oheka. De sa prime enfance dans les beaux quartiers parisiens avant de s’installer dans une cité à Malakoff, de sa passion héritée de ses aïeux pour Tunis et le monde arabo-musulman, de son adolescence éprise de liberté et de rébellion, de sa première expérience d’auteur d’un livre devenu une référence en Europe (Paris Tonkar), de ses missions de professeur de français et animateur culturel à Damas, de la scénarisation de ses premières bandes dessinées, de l’accrochage de ses premières toiles en galerie, de ce qui continue de l’inspirer et d’animer sa carrière : il nous dit tout. ⏩️ L'édition anniversaire de mon ouvrage Paris Tonkar (identique à la version imprimée en juillet 1991) est enfin prévue pour le premier semestre 2024. What’s meant to be, will be 💫 It’s pretty incredible to think back on all of the small moments, challenges, and personal growth that had to happen in order to bring Christine and I together. If I hadn’t moved to Australia I wouldn’t have met my friend who encouraged me to move to New York City, and if I never moved to the city, I would have never met Christine.
