I really wanted to have them myself.. and since my beautiful walking leaf Ike/Eik passed away..♥️😞and I still had a sun beetle clean up crew, I decided to get them straight away so they could comfort me. Rest in peace Ike/Eik sweet angel.. her body was already rotten.. so I buried her in a small perfume jar. Those who engage with arthropods like spiders and centipedes often have an interest in other invertebrates as well. Here's an example of such a species. I expected these Sun Beetles (Pachnoda marginata) to hatch in June and July at the earliest. Apparently, they are not aware of this, as some have already begun to hatch. They develop from an egg to a larva, which then pupates, and the adult beetle emerges from the pupa. During their first life months, which can be up to five, they spend their time as white larvae. The lifespan of an adult is just a few months. This species is endemic to Western and Central Africa; they are diurnal and capable of flight. I have not observed these individuals flying yet, but that day will surely come. As they await summer, they harmoniously share their food supply with dubia roaches. I'm definitely not the biggest insect keeper, but this beetle is just awesome. Pachnoda marginata peregrina aka 'Sun Beetle' 🪲 Actually bought as larvae to feed them but then they were allowed to live, have pupated and now the first beetle has hatched. Finally I've been able to start up my pachnoda marginata colony again! I have two elderly adults who somehow survived the great nematode outbreak of 2022, as well as 35 large grubs waiting to transform into beetles. I did have a third beetle, but they escaped their temporary home and sadly Belly found them before I did... Fingers crossed we get 35 healthy beetles in a couple months time! 💛 Also, a shout out to @swellreptiles for their excellent customer service replacing DOA grubs with 3x the number!
