E sei stata una grande voce della Land Art, anche se il tuo nome sui libri di arte non ricordo di averlo letto. Quello di tuo marito, Robert Smithson, sì. Eppure collaboravate e lui ci teneva a dirlo. Comunque, sei esistita e hai fatto un gran lavoro. In quegli anni, gli anni'70, la Land Art aveva preso il sopravvento. Erano interventi nel paesaggio, tracce lasciate dalla mano dell'artista senza stravolgerlo. Erano segni nella Natura, erano contaminazioni artistiche, di quelle che fanno bene alla vista, certamente più che certe costruzioni obbrobriose la cui presenza danneggia il paesaggio. Cosa sono, dirà la gente che vede il dito e non la luna, quei giganteschi tubi di cemento abbandonati nel deserto dello Utah? Non sono semplici strutture di cemento, ma sono tunnel, sono grandi tunnel di cemento, e dentro quei tunnel ci puoi entrare, puoi trovare il tuo rifugio, puoi non sentirti piccolo in mezzo a tutto quel paesaggio. Quelli sono i Sun Tunnels di Nancy Holt, sono i megaliti di Nancy Holt, sono le sue cattedrali nel deserto. Che poi, dentro quei tunnel, si proiettava la luce che passava attraverso dei fori, e allora tu eri dentro una costellazione, eri nel cielo, eri fra le stelle. E guardando attraverso quei tunnel puoi renderti conto di come il paesaggio, quella porzione circolare di paesaggio, cambi con il passaggio del sole. We begin the 2024 Seagaze festival tonight in Everett at Black Lab Gallery. It’s been almost ten years since me and Greg Wilson (DKFM) conceived this festival while chatting. While we are not at Lo Fi for the first time in the history of the festival. We have moved to two of the best venues we could think of. Black Lab is a cultural center in itself and Isabella has done so much for music and arts in Everett. We also moved into to the amazing Tractor tavern. Whilst at a client's house I noticed how dark their upstairs hallway was, they had to leave the floor lights on all the time. Having recommended Deane from @daylightsystems previously to a customer I explained about the benefits of having a light tunnel. The results from just one when fitted is amazing, here Deane fitted three along the hallway and the transformation is just incredible! You can see how much light floods in even on an overcast day, it looks like the lights are on! In between the dome on the roof which captures the light there is a reflective tunnel that bounces the light down to where it's needed.
