I’ve been thinking about putting my art on t-shirts and bags, and in the past year some folks have helped make that happen and some friends have been gracious enough to model the products for me! 🙏 Shout out to my cousin @stickerbarboutique as well as @btsphl who helped get some of these designs printed. For the past few months I’ve been a fob holder @secondstatepress learning things like letterpress and screen printing. I have a few weeks left of the gig and I want to screen print some shirts! A few photos from the private view at Trelissick Gallery this morning. It is an honour to have been selected for the Focus Exhibition as part of @cornwall_crafts Summer Exhibition ‘Above & Below’. I am showing a selection of my prints alongside Sculptor and Ceramicist @reecejamesingram. The exhibition runs until the 5th of October. I create prints to capture a sense of place and invite an immersion into the wild beauty of West Cornwall’s landscape, flora and fauna; with its hidden woodlands, sweeping curves of moorland and coastlines where the Atlantic Ocean meets the skies. Situated inland from the coast, I work surrounded by meadows and woodlands. I gain a deep sense of place by revisiting the same locations to draw and paint from direct observation, exploring the colours and fauna as they change with the seasons and time of day. Back in my studio I create detailed botanical studies of the plants I’ve collected. Gradually I develop the compositions and colours for my prints, often layering the minutia of nature within larger landscapes. NEW! Framed in an upcycled frame, this linocut was hand carved and printed by the artist Ben Brockman. It is signed and numbered in an edition of 10. A tarantula hawk is a spider wasp (Pompilidae) that preys on tarantulas. Tarantula hawks belong to any of the many species in the genera Pepsis and Hemipepsis. They are one of the largest parasitoid wasps, using their sting to paralyze their prey before dragging it to a brood nest as living food; a single egg is laid on the prey, hatching to a larva which eats the still-living host. They are found on all continents other than Antarctica. Common species are up to 9 centimetres (3+1⁄2 in) long, making them among the largest of wasps, and have blue-black bodies and bright, rust-colored wings (other species have black wings with blue highlights). The vivid coloration found on their bodies, and especially wings, is an aposematism, advertising to potential predators the wasps’ ability to deliver a powerful sting. Their long legs have hooked claws for grappling with their victims. Printed out my printmakers pattern and I'm humbled by people who do this for a living and on a much larger scale! I struggled with a single meter let alone large swathes of fabric! It's not a true repeating pattern as I was a bit enthusiastic with my carving and decided it would be fine to eyeball part of it... ‘William Blake Tree on Peckham Rye’ linocut edition of 10 74 cm x 101 cm. I am delivering this large scale linocut to Jane Newbery’s Gallery in Dulwich. I have only printed 2 so far in a silver grey although the edition is meant to be 10. Based on the tree that stands alone in the middle of Peckham Rye. Maybe once a year there such a thick fog that it almost disappears! I use this tree as a marker to walk the dog each morning. I walk around the tree and home again. On a foggy day it looms out of the mist as a ghostly form and I often wonder if this was William Blake’s vision. I made this linocut print last year from a projection from a video still. The projection distorted the image so that the tree becomes wider, wing like. The image took a few weeks to cut and has been printed in a silver grey on a large Somerset Satin 400gsm paper. It is the second impression from the block printed at Artichoke Print studio in Brixton. I wonder which way William Blake walked from Broadwick Street in Soho to Peckham Rye when he was 7 years old? Maybe he walked down Effra Road through Brixton following the River Effra, or he walked along the Bank of River Peck all the way to the Rye? (Shoji) 21 x 29.7 cm Pour cette impression, j'ai utilisé mon art glitch de la déesse grecque Athéna comme référence, car je voulais incorporer un effet glitch dans mes impressions pour une série limitée plutôt que de le faire numériquement sur Photoshop.
