A few days ago, I got some tea mail from @tradernickstea with a while bunch of new Disney-inspired tea samples, including this beautifully blue lavender blend called Frozen Fractals! Though very lavender forward, the blend is also pretty sweet with notes of vanilla and sugared coconuts and almonds that, when all combined together, taste a lot like lavender macarons or even sugar cookies with a thick lavender frosting. However, there's also soft citrusy notes of lemongrass to the undertones that adds a bit of a more unique spin to the otherwise decadent profile. I found it very unique and, to be honest, a lot better tasting than I'd expected. It was nice to see some more substance here than just the cool blue colour from the butterfly pea flower in the blend which (imo) can sometimes be a little gimmicky. It did make for one of the most perfect "tea splashes" I've ever caught on camera, though! So, y'know, I can't totally write off the aesthetics... 🤷 . My “counter top” tea stash is a never ending battle. I just have lots of tea ok 🤷🏻♀️, so it’s always just a matter of a couple days before I have a big pile next to my kettle 🫖. Of course when I saw this tea tin storage holder at Harney & Sons website recently I decided to buy it! It came today which was perfect timing as I was doing a huge reorganization effort on my tea cabinet/drawers most of the day. I still am only 50% done and decided against posting my chaos pictures trying to sort through my stash because I’m not sure how to feel about it 🤣🤣🤣. Let’s hope I can keep things better organized next to the kettle🤞🏻. I love my @harneytea teas organizer made out of bamboo. My mind wants to tell me I can only put my Harney tea tins in it though 🫣. Today, I’m finishing the last of my brick of ‘Dogs’ by @white2tea 🥲 As a blast from the past: White2Tea and Crimson Lotus Tea did a collaborative tea release called Cats and Dogs. Both were bricks of sheng puer that you could drink individually, or blend together. I bought 2 of each — one to drink now and one to save for the future-future. I never blended the bricks, and this collaboration feels like decades ago. But, revisiting older teas is a lot of fin. They’re like a time capsule, that open up a flood of memories that were sealed away with the time that there were in. After a lot of reading and educating, I came up with a mixture that I really liked and drank regularly! Being a jazz fanatic, I jokingly dubbed it Bitches Brew. But as the idea of Half Note Teas started to form, this blend became the springboard for the whole brand! #teamail from @madameflavour, an Australian brand focusing on sourcing tea from single origin growers of quality tea 🇦🇺 Last year I tried their Green Jasmine & Pear flavour 🍐 and was pleasantly surprised at how delicately put together and nuanced the flavours were and the quality of their tea. After seeing a post on their caffeine-free blends last month, I was really intrigued to try them and grateful for this opportunity! 💌 🧡 Rooibos Mint & Choc: contains rooibos leaf, organic peppermint leaf, cocoa bean pieces, cocoa bean shells, natural chocolate flavour, European dark chocolate drops. *dairy & nuts* Straight out of the box the first flavour I knew I must try was this deliciously desserty sounding tea. It comes in a beautiful bio-mesh pyramid bag and steeped a nice minty, malty infusion with a hint of chocolatey goodness. It’s slightly creamy and sweet without needing milk or sugar, but I made it unhealthy anyway by having some actual mint chocolate to go with it. Overall a good moreish twist for a rooibos lover that would go superbly after dinner. 💚 Organic Mint: contains organic peppermint leaf, spearmint leaf, lavender flowers, Australian round leaf mint, and blue cornflowers. This is not your ordinary mint tea! It has this interesting blend of different types of mints both from overseas and natively grown, and finished off with some lavender for a truly interesting and unique taste. It was slightly herbal, slightly floral from the lavender and had different levels of mintiness with each sip. It felt really soothing. 💙 Lucious Liquorice: contains licorice root, organic peppermint leaves, whole fennel seeds, Australian aniseed myrtle leaf. If you have been a tea friend for a while, you would know that licorice is one of my enemy ingredients. I sipped this in anticipation….. this herbal infusion taste slightly medicinal and has the signature, licorice sweetness, however, the addition of fennel seeds and mint, has also helped to dissipate the strength of the licorice, and make it taste refreshing. Will continue, trying the rest in coming days !
🌱📬 Tea Mail!! Though I've been trying to be more restrained in the amount of compressed cakes I'm buying, I couldn't resist grabbing one of each of @white2tea's new smoked teas along with a handful of their mini counterparts. This tea order smelled incredible the moment I opened it up, with just a beautiful whispy smoke aroma permeating the air. Though I'll wait for the cakes to settle, I couldn't resist brewing up on of the 2024 Great Blue Heron minis in the meantime - I've been a big fan of W2T's other smoked sheng productions so it was an easy first choice. . My first impression of this tea was that it's quite bold and nippy, with an intense smoke aroma that reads quite heavily of pipe tobacco, oak wood, and peat with greener, more herbal undertones that make me think of smudging. It's quite astringent, but not particularly bitter. I found myself appreciating the burly texture. I kind of wanted to be drinking it from a rocks glass; there's just an overall "parlor room" vibe to the tea that practically begs to be accompanied by cigars and whisky. Not for everyone, for sure, but so up my alley.
