I appear to have gotten rid of the worst of my latest sickness just in time to enjoy a surprise “heatwave”. This is the kind of heatwave I like - 20C, warm enough to sit outside in a t-shirt but breezy enough that I don’t feel like I’m melting. (My skin tone and heat tolerance definitely come from my British ancestors rather than my Italian ones!) I decided to enjoy the unusually nice weather by having tea in the garden immediately after work. Basil joined me for a quick play in the lawn before I settled down for a drink and he for a nap. Scroll for the kitty-cat photos. Today’s post-work refreshment was Tun Xi Lu Cha from @curioustealtd This Anhui green tea was harvested in April 2023. Dry leaf - Fresh cut grass, pears, cucumber, seaweed Wet leaf - Seaweed, zucchini, moss Colour - Pale green Smell - Seaweed, damp grass, unexpected lavender note Taste - Cucumber, dried seaweed, raw yellow peppers, damp grass. The longer the steep, the more potent the surprise lavender note. Aftertaste - Thick and cooling, moss, zucchini and a whisper of lavender. Peach Oolong from @tea.said 💙🤍 Ingrediants: Taiwanese Oolong Tea, Dried Peach Fruit, Calendula. At first I was surprised that it wasn't loose leaf tea in this beautiful pouch. Seriously, how gorgeous is the design and the illustrations! But then it's clearly indicated on the packaging that it's tea bags, yet I somehow completely missed it 😅 Oolong is one of my favourite types of tea, especially lighter, greener oolongs. Today's tea was Wild Strawberry - a blend of apple, hibiscus, sweet blackberry leaves, natural flavor, orange peel, strawberries, and elderberries. Tea is from @ahmadtea Mug is from @riflepaperco in collaboration with @corkcicle This tea was a birthday gift from my husband as part of a much bigger tea stash. This was a decent tea, but it was a bit too light for my taste as I prefer strong fruity flavors. I also don't think that it tasted much like wild strawberries. I grew up on wild strawberries and they have a very distinct flavor. I think I will try using two tea bags next time to see if that yields a bolder flavor. The teas featured this month are a 2002 Laochapo Liupao 老茶婆 and a 2013 Aged Rougui Rock Tea 陈年肉桂. A few days ago, I got some tea mail from @tradernickstea with a while bunch of new Disney-inspired tea samples, including this beautifully blue lavender blend called Frozen Fractals! Though very lavender forward, the blend is also pretty sweet with notes of vanilla and sugared coconuts and almonds that, when all combined together, taste a lot like lavender macarons or even sugar cookies with a thick lavender frosting. However, there's also soft citrusy notes of lemongrass to the undertones that adds a bit of a more unique spin to the otherwise decadent profile. I found it very unique and, to be honest, a lot better tasting than I'd expected. It was nice to see some more substance here than just the cool blue colour from the butterfly pea flower in the blend which (imo) can sometimes be a little gimmicky. It did make for one of the most perfect "tea splashes" I've ever caught on camera, though! So, y'know, I can't totally write off the aesthetics... 🤷 . Green Passion Green Tea @whiteliontea Ingredients: Green Tea, Eleuthera Root, Calendula, Natural Flavors With the heralding of spring, I have found myself venturing out of my comfort zone when it comes to my tea journey. That includes incorporating more white and green tea blends into my repertoire. Craving a lighter tea, I decided to try Green Passion Tea from White Lion Traditional Tea which is an aromatic blend of Japanese Sencha, Natural Siberian Ginseng, Calendula Petals and Exotic Passion Fruit. While I do enjoy green tea blend, when it comes to Japanese Sencha , I find that some of them can have a bit too much of a roasted flavor for my palette. So as a result, it is not a tea I typically drink. But I was intrigued by the mention of ginseng in this blend. As it is not an ingredient that has appeared in many tea blends I drink. Green Passion is a beautiful tea appearance wise with large leaves of the tea plant being apparent - no tea dust here folks. It has a clean fresh scent from the packet and when brewed, the notes of the passion fruit are apparent. It adds a vibrancy with lingering sweetness. While sipping, I could still taste the slightly roasted and nutty flavor from the Sencha but it was not overdone. The Sencha is one I would enjoy on its own. But coupled with the ginseng and passion fruit resulted in a unique cup that has a really good flavor with silky mouth feel. Risk taking, when it comes to tea, is something I have always loved doing. It has opened me up to unknown worlds and adds a little bit of adventure to my everyday drinking. In the past, whether the results were positive or negative, I have still been able to feel inspired and I’ve learnt a lot in the process. So, when I received this Kikizu Tea Garden: 2022 Meriyoku Cultivar Fukamushi Tamaryokucha, I decided to experiment with it and put it at the back of my stash, leaving it alone for a while just to see what would happen. Upon opening the vacuum sealed bag a rich aroma was released with strong sweet vegetal notes, as well as notes of frosted flakes, blueberry juice and toasted milk roll with lots of butter. The first steep was a clear mid tone green with yellow hues, and had an intense toasted rice / nutty aroma. The second steep was a cloudy mossy / forest green, and a lot thicker, but still had the same aroma notes. From there on, the steeps stayed the same colour until the session was finished. The first steep had notes of toasted rice, toasted coconut macaroons, dried seaweed, green aloe vera drinks, herbal honey and custard creams. There is an insane level of butteriness to this tea in both taste and mouthfeel, making it super smooth and easy to drink because those vegetal notes aren’t sharp and it is completely void of astringency or bitterness. The second steep was stronger and contained similar notes to the first. However, it was heavier on the vegetals and the roasted rice / toasted nut notes were still present. It was still sweet and creamy, but had savoury underpinning of soba noodles and dried yuzu peel. For the last steep I brewed it for longer to see what I could bring out of it. The result was unexpected with a lakeside air freshness emerging and notes of soba noodles with a splash of ponzu. The finish is long lasting with lingering seaweed, herbal honey, toasted rice and dried yuzu peel notes. I suspect that this tea is a lot calmer than it would have been when it was at its freshest, however I am glad that I did this experiment because it resulted in a tea that is comforting, calm and complex. #japanesetea #kimberleyskyusu (7)

This tea visit was to @baketableandtea based in the town of Bathurst in regional New South Wales, which is about a three hour drive north-west of Sydney Australia. The shop is a treasure trove of all of the baking supplies that you could ever require, as well as an impressive selection of tea, tea and tableware, and also also has a bustling cafe that seemed very popular with the locals. In the store, you can find Australian brand boutique teas from @the.tea.collective, @tealovers_au, @monista_tea_co, @life.of.cha, @byronbayteacompany @larsenandthompson to name a few. They also had large range of tea by @harneytea first time I’ve seen any being stocked in a store in Australia. The store assistance were super friendly and greeted everyone who came through the door despite being quite a busy shop and I was made to feel very welcome to browse. I totally recommend popping into this little store if you ever happen to be in the area as it is such a little treasure cove 🫖

Made my way through my @stashtea stash at work last week…. Thanks to @its_always_tea_oclock and @gatorgosia for all the samples!! 🥭 Mango & Passionfruit (herbal): really enjoyed this one. It contains rosehips, orange peel, lemongrass, hibiscus, safflower, natural mango flavor, licorice root, citric acid, natural passionfruit flavor. The tea was on the tangy side and was a general tropical flavour rather than mango or passionfruit in particular. 🍑 White Peach (oolong): Contains Wuyi oolong tea, orange peel, lemongrass, white peach flavor, peach flavor. This was nice, smooth and subtle and quite a decent oolong surprisingly. I enjoyed this one and would recommend it. 💚 Chai Green (green tea): Has green tea, cinnamon, ginger root, allspice, natural cinnamon flavor, clove, clove bud oil, cardamom oil. It was really aromatic and had a natural sweetness and subtle spiciness to it. My favourite out of these STASH teas. 🫐 Açai Berry (herbal): Hibiscus, rosehips, lemongrass, chicory root, orange peel, licorice root, natural acai flavor, acai powder. This tea was honestly more like a hibiscus and citrusy tea rather than açai tasting. It was enjoyable though especially after adding some honey to it. In conclusion STASH is a brand that provides good value for money considering that it is a more accessible brand from an availability and price point perspective, and comes in convenient teabag form. The quality was higher than expected and the flavours although not mindblowing or anything were all quite palatable for the casual tea lover. @gtea_brand Maple Syrup & Pecan tea 🍁 It’s officially well into Autumn down here in Australia, so to mark the occasion I thought it was high time I tried this special little teabag that @thattealover gave me! This tea contains black tea with natural flavouring, and the dry tea smells sweet. I brewed it for the recommended 6 minutes and the tea was still very low on astringency, making me think it’s a Ceylon base tea. The golden brown tea was the exact colour of the maple syrup that I have, and it was a refreshingly light bodied black tea to have on its own. it had a subtle sweetness that was reminiscent of maple syrup and then a very very slight nutty bitterness or stringency that reminded me of pecan or walnut skin. The tea was really tasty by itself but for a bit of fun I added a drop of maple syrup which made it a nice dessert tea. I had it with some pancakes in maple syrup, of course, using a special grade A variety from Québec Canada, @escuminac.maplebirch A lovely little teatime with fun fall flavours. Springtime pumpkin… My pup and I roam frequently in my backyard - I like to search for things that have fallen from the forest while my pup likes to startle birds and chipmunks. Our last afternoon tea in Bath was taken at the Bath Priory. Establishment and Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Built in 1835, The Bath Priory Hotel offers a fine example of gothic architecture of the period. Set in four acres of award-winning gardens, the hotel grows many of its own herbs and vegetables. Our tea was served in the beautiful lounge, it felt more like you were a guest of the home rather than a hotel. Level of Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely nothing to fault. Attentive service without being formal. We spent a good couple of hours, we certainly weren’t rushed and had the perfect afternoon. Food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ As well as the traditional afternoon tea they do offer both Vegan and Vegetarian. This was the first establishment this visit to offer a different sandwich in place of the fish for my allergy, everyone else doubled up on one of the other sandwiches. The sandwiches were very fresh, nice filings and a variety of breads. Did you see the sausage roll? Yes, it was as delicious as it looked! The scones were served warm from the oven and were truly amazing and the petite fours were sumptuous. Tea and Tea Ware ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Tea of your choice from Newby tea selection or Espresso, Americano, Macchiato, Cappuccino, Flat White Latte, Cafetière, Rooibos Flat White, Latte Mocha, Chai Latte, Hot Chocolate. Honestly the choice was endless. We had the most amazing Chai Lattes, hot chocolate and a pot of Earl grey tea. The tea ware was plain white (not a favorite I do like a pretty pattern), but it was very good quality. Now, they focus on curated tea experiences, global education, and exquisite blends. Check out their online store for some really good tea. The dry leaves smell like sweet chocolate, and the wet leaves smell like sweet flowers. I steeped it for 40 seconds and added 10 seconds for each subsequent steep. I got a few steeps out of it. The tea has a nice yellow color and a subtle hint of floral notes.
